Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper has an original, scientific character, related to illusional perspective across humans and bees. In this  paper authors  review the current state of illusory perception in bees. The growing evidence results provide insights into the evolutionary origin of visual mechanisms across species.  The content of the article is consistent with the scientific area of the journal Vision. The subject raised by the authors is current and so far rarely noticed by other authors publishing in this area.
For a better clarification, please edit your paper as follows: 1. Extend the text of manuscript (example introduction or conclusion) to concrete results in the world and in Europe, - Improve the quality of the paper by presenting the results of publications of researchers and experts that are registered in the world databases (wos). These are, for example: Identification of QR Code Perspective Distortion Based on Edge Directions and Edge Projections Analysis et cetera. 2. figure 1, should be contrasting and readable,
3. conclusions and future work should be extended to contain practical applications based on research described in this paper - expand references,
4. Unify font in table No: 1, ,
5. Correct English grammar in this paper.
I recommend publishing the post after the proposed modifications.

##Authors’ response: We are thankful for these comments. They greatly improved our manuscript.

##Authors’ response: We provided more information about the literary sources we consider. We conducted a preliminary literature search on the PubMed database (see “Do bees experience visual illusions?” section). The neuroarchitecture of bees’ brain (see “Bees perspective” section) and its schematic diagram has been described considering the information provided by the Emeritus Professor Menzel and his group. Finally, we reported DOI links for all references when they were available.

2. figure 1, should be contrasting and readable,
##Authors’ response: We re-draw Figure1 to increase its definition quality and readability.

3. conclusions and future work should be extended to contain practical applications based on research described in this paper - expand references,
##Authors’ response: We followed this suggestion thorough the discussion section. We discussed the methodological aspect that further studies should consider for investigating visual perception in invertebrates.

4. Unify font in table No: 1, ,
##Authors’ response: We corrected it.

5. Correct English grammar in this paper.
#Authors’ response: As suggested by Reviewer#1 and his/her colleagues, the manuscript has been language edited by a proofreading service.

I recommend publishing the post after the proposed modifications.
##Authors’ response: We appreciated your kind recommendation.

Reviewer 2 Report

Short summary: The current state of illusory perception in bees is reviewed. The visual system of bees and knowledge on misperception are introduced. Important aspects are discussed demonstrating that a species showed higher cognitive ability. The review is includes one  figure and one table.

Strengths: a big amount of literature is reviewed (75 references); the discussion opens new research directions.

Comment: spell check is needed, e.g. their nervous system need (p.2), Visual information are (p.3),  humans pays (p.6).
