Reviewer 3 Report

This is very interesting manuscript focusing on partial least squares regression (PLSR)-based models for hydrangenol (HG) and phyllodulcin (PD) in cultivars of Hydrangea macrophylla using three different spectrometers. The results are new and valuable showing that hyperspectral modelling as a decision support for farmers is feasible and provides accurate results on a field-scale.

I think that minor changes must be made before its publishing.

Specific comments are listed below.

Page 1, line 32: I suggest change keywords H. macrophylla subsp. serrata and tea-hortensia.

Both names have already been used in the title.

Page 1, line 44: The sentence “The tradition of the Hanamatsuri, the ceremonies surrounding…” is not necessary here.

Page 1, line 46: The characteristic taste of Amacha… – please avoid to use such many names for the same species

Page 2, line 54: “Leaf extracts from Hydrangea macrophylla L. showed to be a potent fertilizer for mungbean 54 – Vigna radiata L. [13].” – I suggest explain why is a potent fertilizer (which compounds leaves contain)

Page 1-2, lines 40-60: there is a lot of valuable but relatively old references, please update them (where is possible)

Page 2, line 62: Moll et al. (2021) – please add or connect with reference (4?)

Page 2, line 90: dihydroisocoumarins hydrangenol and phyllodulcin – please use abbreviation

Page 3, line 139: do you have some data about e.g. average temperature, moisture, light intensity, how many water plants have been received, soil characteristics (content of nutrients) ...- if you have, please add data in the text

Supplementary Materials – is not mentioned in the text

Page 4, line 169: reference?

Page 19, line 591: conclusions need to be shortened and without citing literature

Page 20, line 645: please correct the reference (add 54 in front of 3385-389)

Page 20, line 654: please correct the reference (11, and add 2354)

Page 21, line 662: please check the full name of the reference

Page 21, line 682: Please change Pharmacutical into the Pharmaceutical

Page 21, line 693: Please correct the page number (add 1044-1051)
