Round 1

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsNatural polymers are increasingly used to actively replace synthetic polymers and products based on them. Plant materials contain a large proportion of cellulose and lignin. Numerous processing methods are known for cellulose. In the case of lignin, its complex chemical structure limits its processing. In the process of obtaining cellulose, the isolated lignin is often burned. The search for new ways of processing lignin is an urgent task. The manuscript by Francisco Malaret et al discusses the issue of various methods of processing lignin. It is shown that the history of lignin production is associated with its properties. For example, the molecular weight values for lignin obtained in various ways are presented in detail. The introduction ends with a statement of the problem, which is clearly formulated and meets the requirements of the journal.
The materials and methods used are described in detail, indicating the number of experiments.
In the discussion section of the results, I would like to highlight not only the abundance of samples used in the work, but also a comparison of the obtained data with the literature. Unfortunately, I did not find information on the maximum and minimum values. I think adding such information will be an interesting addition.

The conclusions reflect the results obtained. In my opinion, the manuscript will be in demand among forestry specialists, pulp mill technologists and chemists working with lignin. The information presented in the manuscript can be used to identify information about the history of lignin or to purposefully select the conditions for processing raw materials to achieve the required indicators. I recommend this work for publication.
