1、During peanut picking, there are complex interaction mechanisms between peanut and machinery, peanut and peanut, peanut and soil mass, as well as the interaction mechanism of population particles. However, the paper only focuses on the study of peanut pods and machinery, and it is suggested that the author should increase relevant research in these aspects in the later period.

2、In this paper, the response surface analysis method was used to establish the experimental model. Why the quadratic polynomial regression model was selected, It was recommended that the author increase the selection analysis of regression model. In addition, the accuracy of the regression model needs to be verified by experiments, and the relative error analysis, how to verify the accuracy of the regression model are particularly important.

The manuscript introduced the structure and basic parameters of peanut picking pairs of rollers, the movement and force analysis of the peanut picking mechanism, collision model simulation analysis, and field trials. It can provide some reference for the study of peanut half-feeding fruit picking. The following are some suggestions for modification and improvement.

 

1.       The first occurrence of an abbreviation shall be explained, such as line 17, JKR.

2.       There is a lack of basis for the design selection of parameters, such as lines 120-123.

3.       There are some mistakes with the language expression, such as lines 16-17 and 148-151. It is suggested to modify and improve the language of the full text.

4.       Does the “V” in equations (2) and (3) mean the same thing?

5.       The context contradicts itself, such as lines 188 and 183.

6.       It is suggested to put the picture after the text, such as figure 4 and figure 5.

7.       The picture and text are inconsistent, as shown in figure 5 and lines 200-214.

8.       The logic of the article is poor. For example, some analysis of part 2.1 -- 2.3 has little relation with part 2.4, and some of the previous analyses have no significance for the subsequent experimental research.

This manuscript investigates the fruit picking system of a semi-feeding peanut combine harvester. It specifies the structure and basic parameters of peanut picking pairs of rollers. The movement and force analysis of the peanut picking mechanism and related harvesting components combined JKR model theory, collision model simulation analysis, and field trials.

I believe that it is a new scientific evidence enough to be published in an international scientific journal. I only not sure that the topic of the manuscript falls within the general scope of the Journal of Agriculture. I think that it may be more appropriate to publish this article in an agricultural engineering journal of MDPI such as AgriEngineering.  I'm not strict about it. It can also be published in Agriculture. In this case, I respect the editor's decision.

My specific comments are following:

Introduction of manuscript should be improved. Some specific information from literature should be given to support hypothesis of manuscript. 

The reason for why JKR model theory used in this study should be explained citing the related literatures.

 

Line 187: picking roller torque is 190 mm?? The unit of torque should be different. Please check it.

Table 1: what is Yu hua 14? Should be explained in table

How did you get the data in table 1? From literature or have you measured? 

The results should be discussed comparing the related published literatures (articles).

This paper optimized peanut picking rollers to improve peanut harvesting efficiency. The structure and basic parameters of peanut picking pairs of rollers, the movement and force analysis of the peanut picking mechanism and related harvesting components were carried out by combining JKR (Johnson-Kendall-Roberts) model theory, collision model simulation analysis, and field trials. This study can provide some basis for the research on semi-feeding peanut picking.

 

However, the language expression need to be modified and improved, the language of the whole article. Lines26-27, 16-17, 160-162, 198-199, 243-244, …
