Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript titled "Cotton Fiber Quality Estimation Based on Machine Learning Using Time Series UAV Remote Sensing Data" has an interesting topic and application of drone image processing in agriculture. However, the author use the filed and image processing technically but it is not well presented. After reading there are some questions and comments as follow;

- What is the main input of this work compared with previous one? please mentioned clearly, is it in application part or in image processing.

- How much was the minimum and maximum size of the boll ?

- Did you consider the phenological time and also the other factor may affect the cotton such as irrigation, soil etc?

- The quality of the images is not good and font of the caption is small and blurry.

- In data fusion did you apply the band based with RGB?

- Results do not well support the text and also conclusion not well support the research goal.

- Totally the research topic is good but it may need to be more readable for a reader.

- English grammar needs to check once again.

Reviewer 2 Report

The topic selection is meaningful. However, some content of this paper needs to be further optimized. And I have some considerable concerns that would be worth addressing. I would like to give some suggestions as below.

1.      The application of UAV remote sensing in cotton quality parameters has significant advantages, but the paper does not fully reflect the technical innovation. In fact, there are many similar studies at present, and please strengthen the comparison with relevant studies.

2.      The Fig.1 should be placed in section “Materials and Methods”.

3.      There should be a map of the test site location compared to China in Fig. 2, which is easy for international readers to understand.

4.      The text of many figures needs to be enlarged, such as Fig. 9.

5.      The discussion section should be divided into several points, which is good for reading and understanding.

6.      Please link all of your figures to your discussion section.

7.      Do different cotton varieties affect the accuracy of evaluation? Please discuss it.

8.      After all, the range of UAV images is limited. Can current results be combined with satellite remote sensing data?

9.      There are too many charts and tables in this article. Consider consolidating them or including some of them as appendices.

10.  References: the format should be uniform. For example, all journal names should be abbreviated.

11.  The abbreviation should be given its full name when it first appears in the abstract or text, such as UAV.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

Thanks to the authors for modifying the manuscript it seems to get more qualified than before.  I have no more comments.

Author Response

Thank you for your affirmation of this study.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thanks for your revision, and the manuscript has been greatly improved. Before the paper is published, I have two small suggestions:

1.        Please adjust the structure and color scheme of Figure 2.

2.        Please change the title of 4.2 to “limitations and prospects” and further condense the content.

Author Response

Thank you for your suggestions, it helped improve our article. We have modified the manuscript in accordance with your comments.

Point 1:Please adjust the structure and color scheme of Figure 2.We have modified Figure 2.

Response 1:Thank you for your suggestion. We have modified Figure 2.

Point 2:Please change the title of 4.2 to “limitations and prospects” and further condense the content.

Response 2:Thank you for your suggestion. Chapters 4.2 has been modified.
