Dear Colleagues,

Corneal and retinal diseases remain leading causes of visual impairment and blindness worldwide, profoundly affecting patients’ quality of life. Although conventional pharmacological, surgical, and device-based treatments have improved clinical outcomes, many degenerative, inflammatory, hereditary, and ischemic ocular disorders still lack effective disease-modifying therapies. Recent advances in molecular biology, stem cell science, tissue engineering, gene editing, drug delivery systems, and ocular imaging have opened new avenues for restoring ocular structure and function.

This Topic aims to highlight emerging molecular and regenerative approaches for corneal and retinal diseases. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and translational studies focusing on mechanisms of disease, novel therapeutic targets, cell-based therapies, gene and RNA-based interventions, extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, organoids, and advanced drug delivery platforms. Studies integrating molecular insights with clinical phenotypes, imaging biomarkers, or therapeutic outcomes are particularly encouraged.

By bringing together basic, translational, and clinical research, this Topic seeks to promote a deeper understanding of ocular disease pathogenesis and to accelerate the development of innovative therapies for vision preservation and restoration.
