Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the upcoming topic dedicated to the future of banking and financial risk management. This initiative aims to bring together scholars, professionals, and industry experts to discuss the major transformations reshaping the banking sector and the strategies required to manage increasingly complex and interconnected financial risks.

In an age characterized by technological disruption, climate-related challenges, regulatory evolution, and growing concerns over financial stability, the traditional paradigms of banking are being redefined. The acceleration of digital innovation, the rise in ESG standards, and the emergence of new types of systemic risks are forcing financial institutions, regulators, and researchers to rethink tools, frameworks, and governance models for the years ahead.

We welcome high-quality submissions offering original research, theoretical contributions, empirical analyses, and policy-relevant perspectives that critically engage with topics such as (but not limited to) the following:

  • Digital transformation in banking and fintech innovation;
  • Integration of ESG factors and climate-related financial risks;
  • Evolving regulatory frameworks and the future of prudential supervision;
  • Credit risk, systemic risk, and the role of financial intermediaries.

This paper aims to capture the impact of CEO characteristics on corporate risk-taking behavior in the emerging stock market, namely the Saudi market, by analyzing data from 43 firms listed in TADAWUL from 2016 to 2024 using a quantitative method through two statistical models to examine how a CEO’s power, tenure, and confidence influence risk-taking behavior from accounting and market-wise perspectives. The results reveal that CEO power and CEO confidence show significantly positive coefficient impacts on market-wise corporate risk taking. In contrast, CEO tenure has no impact on market-wise corporate risk taking. In addition, CEO power and CEO confidence show an insignificant coefficient impact on accounting corporate risk taking. In contrast, CEO tenure has a significant N-shaped curve in accounting for corporate risk taking. The findings contribute to the existing accounting literature by providing new evidence from Saudi Arabia and provide insights into the influence of CEOs’ attributes in shaping a firm’s risk-taking behavior from two perspectives.
