This study employs a reflexive autoethnography, guided by flow and place attachment theory, to examine how gaming experiences influence attachments to virtual environments and inspire real-world travel intentions. Data comprise reflexive journal notes written over a 10-month period after playing multiple video games and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis following a hybrid deductive–inductive approach. The analysis identified eight themes across three dimensions: temporal immersion, escapism, narrative immersion, and self-expression under flow; emotional, cognitive, and behavioural attachment under place attachment; and place-induced travel intention as the behavioural outcome. The findings establish flow as a critical antecedent to the development of place attachment within virtual environments. Consistent with emerging scholarship, the study confirms that attachment formation does not require physically tangible places; rather, it can emerge through digitally mediated presence and interaction, indicating that virtual environments are capable of eliciting place attachment. More significantly, it demonstrates that these virtual attachments can fluidly extend toward real places depicted in games, revealing a cross-environmental continuity in attachment processes. The integrated framework thus contributes a novel theoretical proposal linking flow, virtual and real place attachment, and tourism behaviour, an area that remains conceptually fragmented and empirically underdeveloped. Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) is a critical interface for FPGA-based accelerators, yet existing controller solutions are often proprietary, costly, and/or incompatible with open-source workflows. We present a fully open-source PCIe controller, written in synthesizable Verilog and optimized for Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) deployment. The core is verified using a Python-based cocotb2.0.1 and pyuvm4.0.0 testbench with a modeled Root Complex (RC), complete with data packet generation, automated checks for enumeration, flow control, and retry mechanisms. On an AMD Xilinx AC701 (XC7A200T), the design achieves less than 6% LUT utilization, timing closure at 100 MHz user clock, and demonstrates compatibility with vendor transceivers. Reference builds also meet timing on Altera Agilex devices with similar resource utilization. All RTL, verification infrastructures, and example designs are publicly released, enabling reproducible research and accelerating the development of PCIe-enabled systems for high-speed data acquisition, NVMe front-ends, and custom FPGA accelerators. This article proposes a single-deformation scheme for probability measures that simultaneously encompasses two classical deformations from free probability: the Va deformation (aR) and the Tc deformation (cR). The associated operator, written as W(a,c), is introduced via a functional relation involving the Cauchy–Stieltjes transform and is constructed so as to recover the initial deformations as special cases, namely W(0,c)=Tc and W(a,0)=Va. Working within the concept of Cauchy–Stieltjes kernel families, we analyze the action of W(a,c) on variance functions and establish an explicit expression for the variance function induced by this deformation. This approach leads to a structural invariance property demonstrating that the free Meixner class is preserved under the action of W(a,c). In addition, the operator provides a new perspective on the semicircle distribution, yielding a characterization that reflects the symmetric nature of the deformation and its compatibility with fundamental distributions in free probability. Critical thinking is essential for managing socio-scientific issues (SSIs) and can be enacted through informal and rational reasoning for decision-making. Addressing SSIs from a systemic view, such as the One Health (OH) view, can improve their comprehension. This study explores how a group of 9th graders engaged in the practice of critical thinking in a teaching sequence that included different SSIs (antibiotic resistance, microplastic pollution, and avian flu) from an OH vision. The research questions are: (1) What is the ability of students to develop a critical position in the evaluation of claims related to SSI with an OH view? (2) What are the interactions between students’ critical positions and OH views expressed by them in different SSI contexts? Written answers from two activities at different moments of the sequence were analyzed qualitatively. Most students did not develop a critical position in the beginning; however, they did so at the end. No interaction was observed between the ability to develop a critical position and the OH view at the beginning. Students with a critical position at the end showed the highest levels of OH view. These results highlight the need to further investigate the relationships between critical positions and OH views. Full article

This study investigates how Croatian students from the University of Split and Italian students from the University of Salerno perceive and use sex-related taboo language, focusing on differences between their first language (L1), Croatian or Italian, and their second language (L2), English. Data were gathered through an anonymous online survey exploring participants’ perception and use of 15 sex-related taboo expressions in both their L1 and L2. A total of 160 university students participated (N = 160), including 80 Croatian and 80 Italian students. The results indicate that students perceive sex-related words and phrases as more offensive in their L1 than in their L2. However, contrary to expectations, they reported using such language more frequently in their L1, both in oral and written communication. This study contributes to understanding how bilinguals navigate sex-related taboo language across their L1 and L2. Unlike most previous research, which has mainly focused on taboo language in general, this study specifically examines sex-related taboo words. The findings contradict the common notion that speakers choose L2 for swearing due to the emotional distance it provides. Instead, it suggests that participants may intentionally choose their L1 to convey stronger emotional intensity, especially in close or personal situations. Full article

This article considers traditional Inuit beliefs and practices as expressed through human–animal relationality, examining the physical and spiritual significance of qimmiit (sled dogs), and how qimmiit functioned as co-travellers with humans across physical and spiritual realms of existence. Drawing on ethnographic and missionary narrative sources, it explores Inuit–Qimmiit relationality as central to survival in the pre-modern period. Consulted sources include the writings of explorer–ethnographer Knud Rasmussen, Church of England missionary Edmund James Peck, anthropologist Franz Boas, explorer–author Peter Freuchen, and Oblate missionary Pierre Henry (Kajualuk). These accounts, despite Euro-centric and Christian biases, provide distinct yet overlapping experiences with sled dogs and understandings of Inuit traditions and worldviews. Read comparatively, these ethnographic texts reveal how qimmiit were essential to mobility and spiritual–social order. The article draws on the Qikiqtani Truth Commission to contextualize the harm and suffering caused by the loss of qimmiit during the dog killings of the 1950s to 1970s. The song “Travel Without Me,” from the Animal Kinship Project and written to commemorate qimmiit in the aftermath of the sled dog slaughter, provides a narrative framework structured around kinship and travel, foregrounding Inuit understandings of shared journeys across human and canine existence and framing Inuit–Qimmiit relations as enduring bonds that traverse both physical life and afterlife. Within Inuit religious cosmologies, relationships between humans and qimmiit extend beyond practical cooperation to encompass shared spiritual existence, relational obligation, and continuity of soul across physical and metaphysical worlds. Ethnographic accounts recorded by Rasmussen, Peck, Boas, Freuchen and Henry describe dogs not merely as working animals but as ensouled beings who participate in travel, naming practices, shamanic mediation, cosmogonic and afterlife narratives. Read through a religious studies lens, these sources reveal a cosmological framework in which mobility and survival are embedded within sacred relational structures linking human and animal life. This article examines Inuit–Qimmiit kinship as a form of physical–spiritual relationality, arguing that dogs function as co-travellers whose relational position across embodied and cosmological domains illuminates Inuit understandings of personhood, cosmological balance, and the continuity of life beyond death. The accelerating digitalization of education has heightened the need for instructional approaches that are developmentally appropriate for young learners and capable of supporting both linguistic growth and creative speech production. This study investigates the pedagogical potential of integrating adapted English-language podcasts and media-based tasks into primary English instruction to foster originality, contextual coherence, expressive flexibility, and emotional richness in learners’ productive speech. The research employed a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design implemented in intact classroom groups and involved 233 third- and fourth-grade students (experimental group, n = 116; control group, n = 117). Over one academic semester (January–May 2025), the experimental group participated in a structured programme embedded within regular lessons that combined short podcast episodes with dialogic and narrative tasks, while the control group followed the standard curriculum without podcast integration or comparable multimedia enrichment. Data analysis combined quantitative comparison of pre- and post-intervention speech outcomes with qualitative evaluation of learners’ oral and written products, supplemented by student and teacher feedback. The results showed statistically significant improvements in the experimental group across key indicators of creative speech performance. Qualitative evidence further indicated a shift toward more independent, personally meaningful language use, with learners demonstrating greater willingness to experiment with narrative transformation, evaluative retelling, and expressive variation. Taken together, the findings suggest that adapted podcasts, when systematically integrated into routine classroom practice, can serve as an effective and feasible tool for strengthening creative speech development in primary English language education and for enriching contemporary media pedagogy in digitally evolving learning environments. This article presents a comprehensive and analytically explicit study of optimal discrete quantization on spherical geometries equipped with the geodesic metric. Focusing on highly symmetric configurations on the unit sphere S2, we investigate three explicit models of discrete uniform distributions and derive closed-form expressions for their optimal quantizers and corresponding mean square quantization errors. (I) For N equally spaced points on the equator, we obtain exact error formulas for both divisible and non-divisible cases nN, demonstrating that optimal Voronoi cells form contiguous arcs with midpoint representatives. (II) For two antipodally symmetric small circles at latitudes ±ϕ0, each with M longitudes, we prove a no-cross-circle Voronoi phenomenon, establish symmetry-preserving optimality, and derive finite-sum error formulas together with sharp curvature-dependent bounds and asymptotics. (III) For a single small circle at latitude ϕ0, we obtain analogous exact error formulas and show that curvature reduces distortion by a factor of cos2ϕ0, while preserving the n2 decay rate. Across all models, we rigorously establish the “block midpoint principle”: optimal Voronoi cells on a circle are contiguous azimuthal blocks, and their optimal representatives are the corresponding azimuthal midpoints. Numerical tables and illustrative figures highlight curvature effects and compare divisible and non-divisible cases. An algorithmic appendix provides pseudocode and a small, commented Python implementation to facilitate reproducibility. Written with didactic clarity while maintaining full mathematical rigor, this work bridges geometric intuition and analytic precision, providing explicit benchmark models that illuminate curvature effects and support further developments in quantization on curved manifolds. Background/Objectives: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) at discharge from neonatal units is influenced by maternal, neonatal, and healthcare-related factors. Structured breastfeeding support may improve outcomes. This study aimed to assess the impact of specialized breastfeeding support provided by a pediatric nurse on EBF rates at discharge and to explore associated factors. Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted in a regional referral neonatal unit within the Spanish public healthcare system. Newborns admitted to the unit whose mothers intended to breastfeed were included. Two periods were compared: a pre-intervention period, April 2017–March 2019, (breastfeeding working group, written protocol, staff training, and donor human milk bank) and a post-intervention period, April 2019–March 2021, (incorporation of a lactation consultant and establishment of a Breastfeeding Committee). EBF at discharge and at 6 and 12 months was analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression. Results: A total of 1136 newborns were included in the analysis. EBF at discharge increased from 39.6% in the pre-intervention period to 75.8% in the post-intervention period (p < 0.001). The post-intervention period was independently associated with EBF (OR 4.45; 95% CI: 3.45–5.75). Factors positively associated with EBF included participation in breastfeeding workshops, adequate milk expression frequency, initiation of breastfeeding at birth, and previous breastfeeding experience. Negative associations included hypogalactia, donor human milk use, and maternal pain. EBF rates were 38.5% at 6 months and 20.9% at 12 months. Conclusions: Specialized breastfeeding support within neonatal units was associated with a substantial increase in EBF at discharge, supporting its systematic integration into routine neonatal care. This study investigated conceptual change in novice English teachers’ understanding of English teaching fostered through an Attentive Teaching-based professional development course. In particular, the practice of an approach called Attentive Teaching applied to English teaching enabled the participants to expand their initial concept of English teaching; this change can be seen in multimodal artifacts the teachers produced, involving a visual representation, a written explanation, and an oral presentation. In the course, the concept of teaching English was explored by applying the Attentive Teaching approach, which aligns with other action-oriented approaches under the CEFR framework. The main findings reveal a change in the novice teachers’ understanding: they initially perceived teaching from the outside; as learners, however, following the course, they positioned themselves as leaders of the teaching process in the classroom. This change was observed through creative multimodal products in which each participant expressed their unique point of view, produced at the beginning and the end of the course. The findings illustrate a conceptual change at both the individual and group levels regarding the participants’ understanding of the concept of English teaching. Thus, the practice of Attentive English Teaching is a promising pedagogical tool for inducing and observing conceptual change in novice teachers. Full article

The Israel–Hamas War, which erupted with the horrifying events of 7 October 2023, stands as one of the pivotal breaking points in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict since its inception. Both sides have been left battered, pained, and devoid of any trust or hope for peace. Among the local immediate social grassroots responses to repairing the fractured relationship was the production of a special prayer booklet focused on coexistence and shared life liturgy produced by the Reform Movement in Israel, a non-Orthodox Jewish community. In this article, I analyze four prayers for peace included in this booklet, written by Israeli female religious leaders. I examine how these women crafted prayers to promote a message of peace. The texts establish a maternal dialogue to foster a space of trust and security, aiming to replace the exclusive focus on the God of Israel with a deity encompassing all nations. Through these liturgical creations, the authors challenge both the Israeli Orthodox establishment, which excludes non-Orthodox identities and expressions, and the hegemonic national order, which suppresses discussions of coexistence during times of conflict and marginalizes women’s political involvement. Therefore, I conclude that the creators of these prayers emerge as significant gendered political actors in an era marked by distrust, anger, hostility, and fear. They demonstrate that a message of coexistence can resonate within the religious sphere. Full article

Background: This research explores the complex relationship between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and language skills, focusing on the impact of the disorder on children’s language development. It is designed as a systematic literature review to synthesize and evaluate existing evidence on this topic. Based on the existing literature, ADHD affects multiple dimensions of language, including phonological awareness, pragmatic comprehension, morphosyntactic structure, narrative skills, and written expression. The difficulties that children with ADHD exhibit at the language level are directly related to their deficits in working memory, attention, and organization, which make it challenging for them to acquire and use language at both educational and social levels. Methods: This study followed the PRISMA methodology, with a systematic selection process across four stages (identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion). During the identification phase, 475 records were identified (450 from database searches and 25 through reference screening). After screening and applying inclusion criteria, 15 studies met all eligibility requirements and were included in the final synthesis. Results: The present research highlighted the important role that occupational therapists and psychologists can play in the language development of children with ADHD. Strategic interventions to alleviate the language difficulties of children with ADHD are designed to enhance phonological awareness, executive function, speech and language, the use of technological tools, and social skills training. Conclusions: The importance of early diagnosis and implementation of holistic, individualized interventions targeting the language, executive, and social difficulties manifested by children with ADHD is considered influential in addressing the barriers to improving language skills as effectively as possible. This study examines the phenomenon of “foolishness for Christ” as reflected in the contemporary Orthodox figure of Elder Gerontius of Tismana. Starting with a general review of the diverse phenomena of divine madness present in various world religions, we then move onto the Orthodox Christian tradition, where such apparent eccentric behavior is interpreted as an expression of deep asceticism and spiritual insight. Based primarily on memorial and testimonial sources (oral accounts, written recollections, and biographical notes), the research employs a hermeneutical and phenomenological approach to interpret how such figures are perceived within ecclesial life. Using Christos Yannaras’ theological criteria for discerning authentic “holy folly”, our paper argues that Elder Gerontius convincingly fits this ascetic paradigm. The study further suggests that the presence of such charismatic and unconventional figures may signal a form of spiritual renewal within contemporary Orthodoxy, revealing the dynamic interplay between prophetic charisma and institutional order in the life of the Church. Background: Radspherin® is a novel α-emitting radiopharmaceutical administered intraperitoneally following complete cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC) for peritoneal metastases. It delivers short-range radiation aimed at eliminating residual microscopic disease. This qualitative study explored how participants with colorectal cancer experienced participating in an early-phase clinical trial involving CRS-HIPEC followed by Radspherin®. Materials and Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten participants enrolled in a phase 1/2a trial involving CRS-HIPEC and intraperitoneal Radspherin®. The analysis was guided by a phenomenological and interpretive approach using reflexive thematic analysis. Results: Participants expressed a strong sense of motivation and hope tied specifically to receiving Radspherin®, which they perceived as an opportunity to improve their prognosis. Many also viewed participation as a contribution to future cancer research. None attributed complications or side effects to Radspherin®. Clear and supportive verbal communication from healthcare professionals was highly valued, while the written information was described as overwhelming. Despite fears of recurrence, most participants remained optimistic about regaining a meaningful life. While experiences with Radspherin® were largely positive, participants also described pain, fatigue, and prolonged recovery related to CRS-HIPEC, including ongoing functional and psychosocial challenges. Conclusions: Participants associated Radspherin® with hope and a therapeutic benefit but did not link it to their adverse events. Their willingness to participate in experimental treatment was shaped by trust in clinicians, clear communication, and a desire for extended survival. However, the burden of CRS-HIPEC-related side effects underscores the importance of tailored follow-up and support. Full article

Background/Objectives: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat that reduces antibiotic effectiveness and increases healthcare burdens. Countries in the Asia–Pacific region face a particularly high AMR burden, necessitating international collaboration, education, and practical training to combat this growing crisis. This study describes the design, implementation, and educational outcomes of the Infection Diagnosis Workshop, a short-term international program primarily targeting undergraduate medical sciences students that integrates AMR-focused hands-on clinical microbiology training and lectures, alongside cross-cultural collaboration and scientific English communication. Methods: The Infection Diagnosis Workshop was implemented as a four-day program combining lectures with hands-on laboratory activities. Training emphasizes the detection and analysis of antibiotic-resistant bacteria through environmental sampling, bacterial culturing, phenotypic and genotypic resistance detection, and species identification, core components that have remained consistent since the workshop’s establishment. Students also attended lectures on AMR science, global impact, and management strategies. Group discussions and collaborative tasks encouraged interdisciplinary learning. A thematic analysis of student feedback essays from previous workshop cohorts was conducted to identify key concepts, learning outcomes, and shared experiences. All participants provided informed consent for the use of their written feedback. Results: Thematic analysis revealed key learning outcomes categorized into three themes: (1) Knowledge, Awareness, and Technical Skills; (2) Cultural Understanding and Cross-Cultural Collaboration; and (3) English Language and Communication Skills. Students reported increased AMR knowledge, improved laboratory proficiency, enhanced cultural adaptability, and greater confidence in English communication. They also expressed a deeper appreciation for interdisciplinary and international approaches to AMR. Conclusions: The Infection Diagnosis Workshop effectively integrated practical laboratory training with international and cross-cultural engagement. The program strengthened student competencies and contributed to building global partnerships essential for combating AMR. Full article
