As remote and hybrid work arrangements become increasingly embedded in modern professional life, understanding indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in work-from-home (WFH) settings has become critical for supporting sustainable and healthy work environments. This study assessed both subjective perceptions and objective measurements of IEQ from three different working environments of home, employer offices, and simulated standard-compliant offices. Within the home environment, household characteristics resulted in significantly different measured IEQ: larger households and pet ownership were associated with higher CO2, VOC, and air temperature levels, while noise levels varied by childcare responsibilities and flooring type. IEQ perceptions also significantly differed: air temperature satisfaction was lower among those providing childcare, and overall environmental satisfaction varied by WFH frequency, with occasional WFH workers reporting the least satisfaction. Across the three working environments, participants were significantly more satisfied with thermal and acoustic conditions in WFH than employer offices, with simulated standard-compliant offices showing intermediate results. Notably, these perception patterns did not always align with measured environmental conditions. These findings demonstrate that both household characteristics and work context shape occupants’ IEQ perceptions, underscoring the importance of occupant-centered evaluation in advancing sustainable building design and remote work strategies. The results suggest that integrating both objective IEQ metrics and subjective experience is essential for promoting long-term environmental sustainability and occupant well-being across evolving work environments. Background/Objectives: This study investigates whether psychological well-being moderates the relationship between burnout and depressive symptoms among mental health professionals, who are frequently exposed to high emotional labor. Methods: A sample of 607 professionals—including psychologists, guidance counselors, social workers, and psychiatrists—working in public and private institutions in Turkey participated in the study. Data were collected online using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Psychological Well-Being Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory–II. A latent interaction term between burnout and psychological well-being was tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results: Burnout was positively associated with depressive symptoms (β = 0.37, p < 0.001), and psychological well-being showed a significant main effect on depressive symptoms (β = 0.26, p < 0.001). Importantly, the interaction between burnout and psychological well-being was significant (β = 0.20, p < 0.001), indicating that psychological well-being significantly moderates the relationship between burnout and depressive symptoms. Specifically, the positive interaction suggests that the association between burnout and depressive symptoms becomes stronger at higher levels of psychological well-being. The model explained 27% of the variance in depressive symptoms. Conclusions: These findings highlight the protective role of psychological well-being and suggest that interventions aimed at enhancing well-being may help reduce depressive symptoms among mental health professionals in high-stress environments. The psychosocial well-being of employees is crucial to health and productivity, and it forms the basis for organisational sustainability. Unfortunately, most studies rely on narrow indicators or small samples and thus are not generalisable. The present study aims to identify psychosocial and health-related factors that distinguish employees with high and low SWB and determine whether these effects are universal or sector-specific. A total of 1628 employees with organisations in Latvia’s public administration, healthcare, pharmaceutical and energy sectors participated by completing the Multidimensional Psychosocial Well-Being Scale for Employed Persons (MPSWEP). This instrument assesses five key work environment factors: social inclusion, professional development, work intensity, health risks and autonomy. Subjective well-being (SWB) was measured as a separate outcome variable, and additional self-reported health problems were included as an independent variable in the analysis. Higher odds of high SWB were observed with greater social inclusion (OR = 5.11; p < 0.001), whereas higher work intensity (OR = 0.51; p < 0.001) and health problems (OR = 0.25; p < 0.001) were associated with lower odds of high SWB. Model accuracy was high (AUC = 0.85–0.87), with significant differences between sectors. The results suggest that some resources universally facilitate well-being across sectors, while others exert more sector-specific effects. Full article

Background/Objectives: Professional quality of life influences patient care, staff well-being, and organizational efficacy. The COVID-19 pandemic placed pressure on healthcare professionals, disrupting their professional quality of life and imposing a psychological burden. In Greece, these issues were intensified by a decade of economic crisis, marked by constrained healthcare budget, personnel shortages, and insufficient resources. This study investigates the pandemic’s impact on the professional quality of life of Greek healthcare professionals to support targeted interventions. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using descriptive statistics. The participants were a convenience sample of 246 healthcare professionals from a Greek regional university hospital with at least one year of experience and who had worked with COVID-19-positive or potentially exposed but asymptomatic patients. Data were collected between March and June 2021 using the Professional Quality of Life Scale (version 5). Results: Of the 246 participants, 81.3% were women and 33.8% were aged 50 or older. Moderate concern and fear regarding COVID-19 were reported, with 34.6% extremely afraid of transmitting the virus to family or friends and 22.8% to patients or their families. Overall professional quality of life was moderate: compassion satisfaction was moderate to high, while burnout and secondary traumatic stress were moderate to low. Higher compassion satisfaction was linked to holding a position of responsibility. Burnout was associated with having children, permanent employment, years of experience, and increased pandemic-related fear. Higher secondary traumatic stress was associated with older age, more years of experience, and greater pandemic-related fear. Conclusions: These findings support international research and highlight that the moderate levels observed indicate intrinsic motivation based on professionalism in patient care, providing evidence of resilience and coping mechanisms that reduce psychological consequences on well-being due to the pandemic. Frontline workers across health, emergency, and social care sectors are repeatedly exposed to distressing events and chronic stressors as part of their occupational roles. Unlike single-event trauma, these cumulative exposures accrue over time, generating persistent psychological and physiological strain. Traditional diagnostic frameworks, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), were not designed to capture the layered and ongoing nature of this occupational trauma. This commentary introduces the concept of Persistent Traumatic Stress Exposure (PTSE), a framework that reframes trauma among frontline workers as an exposure arising from organisational and systemic conditions rather than solely an individual disorder. It aims to reorient understanding, responsibility, and intervention from a purely clinical lens toward systems, cultures, and organisational duties of care. PTSE is presented as an integrative paradigm informed by contemporary theory and evidence on trauma, moral injury, organisational stress, and trauma-informed systems. The framework synthesises findings from health, emergency, and social care settings, illustrating how repeated exposure, ethical conflict, and institutional pressures contribute to cumulative psychological harm. PTSE highlights that psychological injury may build across shifts, careers, and lifetimes, requiring preventive, real-time, and sustained responses. The framework emphasises that effective support is dependent on both organisational readiness, the structural conditions that enable trauma-informed work, and organisational preparedness, the practical capability to enact safe, predictable, and stigma-free responses to trauma exposure. PTSE challenges prevailing stigma by framing trauma as a predictable occupational hazard rather than a personal weakness. It aligns with modern occupational health perspectives by advocating for systems that strengthen psychological safety, leadership capability and access to support. By adopting PTSE, organisations can shift from reactive treatment models toward proactive cultural and structural protection, honouring the lived realities of frontline workers and promoting long-term wellbeing and resilience. Kidding in goats is a highly significant event with major economic implications and strong impacts on the welfare of both the offspring and the mothers. Monitoring the process is extremely demanding, as it is impossible to predict precisely when it will occur. For this reason, the automatic detection of kidding has the potential to generate substantial productivity gains while also improving animal well-being. Artificial intelligence techniques based on accelerometry data have been explored for identifying the event, but these approaches typically rely on data loggers, which cannot trigger real-time alerts or assistance. Embedding detection mechanisms directly into wearable devices enables much faster identification and supports energy-efficient operations. However, this approach also introduces considerable challenges, particularly due to the strict constraints of wearable devices in terms of weight, cost, and battery life. The present work documents the development of a real-time, automatic kidding-detection mechanism in which the detection workload is distributed between the collar and an edge device. System evaluation demonstrated the feasibility of this distributed architecture, confirming that both components can cooperate effectively to achieve reliable detection. The system achieved a Matthews Correlation Coefficient performance of 0.91, highlighting the robustness and practical viability of the proposed solution. Full article

Background: Suicide represents a challenging societal question. There is a correlation between multi-comorbidity (mental, addictive, social, and physical) and excess suicide. Aside from recognizing this correlation, our understanding of employment’s impact on psychache in adults with the multi-comorbidity of schizophrenia and multi-substance use disorders remains incomplete. Methods: This individual survey of 88 inpatients (with multi-comorbidity) examined the hypothetical impact of preadmission employment on psychache intensity. Fifty of them (56.8%) reported being employed prior to admission, while thirty-eight of them (43.2%) reported they were not. Written informed consent was obtained from all subjects involved in this survey before inclusion. Results: The findings demonstrated that the connection between general self-efficacy and current psychache intensity is dependent on the subjects’ preadmission employment status, with a stronger negative correlation observed in subjects who worked prior to admission (p < 0.001). Employment status provided the moderator variable in the association between general self-efficacy and current psychache intensity (p < 0.001). Conclusions: These measures are crucial for balancing work and psychache as well as translating the findings regarding the social nature of health and well-being into real-world application of suicide prevention in individuals with multi-comorbidity. Rising rates of mental health concerns worldwide highlight the need for accessible and effective support. Music wellness, defined as “interacting with music in a way that contributes to holistic health and flourishing,” may help address this gap when integrated into education. In 2024, this research team conducted a Delphi study to establish this definition and propose a four-dimensional music wellness model (catalyst, act, outcome, and skill). The present study builds on that work by evaluating the model’s clarity, relevance, and real-world applicability through a mixed-methods validation study. Semi-structured interviews with five experts assessed conceptual coherence and clarity, and a survey of 160 adults examined whether the model reflected everyday uses of music for well-being. Experts confirmed the model’s logic and utility while suggesting refinements to improve clarity. Survey responses showed high overall agreement (mean = 85.6%) across items representing all four dimensions, and all participants reported daily engagement with music and positive emotional effects. These findings support the model’s validity and applicability, providing an evidence-based foundation for integrating music wellness into curricula that promote lifelong health and flourishing. This study investigates the determinants of turnover intention among real estate sales professionals in Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), two markets that represent contrasting economic realities within the MENA region. Drawing on Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, Vroom’s Expectancy Theory, and March and Simon’s Push-Pull Model, this study adopts a multidimensional framework to assess the effects of compensation, job stress, career growth opportunities, and work–life balance on employee retention. A quantitative method was employed using a structured questionnaire administered to 832 respondents (425 in the UAE and 407 in Lebanon), and data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The results reveal that job stress is the most influential predictor of turnover intention, particularly in Lebanon, followed by work–life balance, compensation, and career growth opportunities. These findings underscore the importance of psychological well-being and structural incentives in talent retention. By offering empirical evidence from an underexplored regional labor market, the study contributes to the global turnover discourse and provides comparative insights into the labor dynamics of both a crisis-prone and a high-growth economy. The results carry significant practical implications for HR managers, firm owners, and policymakers, highlighting the necessity of adopting holistic and context-sensitive retention strategies that extend beyond financial rewards to include flexible work arrangements, career development frameworks, and supportive workplace cultures. Background: Hospitalisation for paediatric oncohaematological diseases entails significant physical and psychological stress, often compromising children’s emotional regulation and daily functioning. In this context, complementary interventions can provide additional support to the clinical work conducted with children and adolescents undergoing treatment, fostering emotional awareness and well-being. This study evaluates the feasibility and perceived benefits of an animal-assisted psychoeducational intervention to enhance emotional coping during hospitalisation. Methods: A single-centre observational study was conducted at Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital in Italy in collaboration with the ZOOM Foundation (Turin, Italy), between September 2023 and May 2025. Sixty patients aged 6–15 years participated in an intervention combining observation of an in-ward aquarium, virtual animal encounters, and completion of a psychoeducational booklet promoting emotional reflection through symbolic identification with animal behaviours. Results: The intervention showed high feasibility and acceptability: 90% of participants (54/60) reported positive emotions and enjoyment, 80% (48/60) found the booklet engaging, and all participants (100%) perceived care and attention from facilitators. The activities fostered engagement, curiosity, and well-being, though their impact on deeper emotional processing appeared limited. Conclusions: Animal-assisted psychoeducational interventions are feasible and well-received in paediatric oncohaematology, offering complementary support to clinical care by promoting emotional resilience and enriching the hospital experience. Background: In a context of profound transformation within Public Administration, the growing generational diversity of the workforce poses critical challenges to organisational well-being. While ageism is a known risk, the intersectionality of age and gender—manifesting as gendered ageism—remains an under-explored area that can significantly undermine job satisfaction and employee health. Objective: This study aimed to explore the subjective work experience of public sector employees, specifically focusing on intergenerational relations and the impact of gendered ageism. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted involving 30 employees of the Italian Public Administration, recruited via purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting approximately 38 min and analysed using a thematic analysis of elementary contexts via T-Lab software. Results: The analysis revealed four distinct thematic clusters positioned along two main factor axes (Individual/Organisation and Difficulties/Potential). The results show a dichotomy: while positive relationships with colleagues (Cluster 1) and the drive for change (Cluster 4) act as potential resources, the experience is marred by significant difficulties. These include organisational imbalances (Cluster 3) and, crucially, specific experiences of gendered ageism (Cluster 2), manifesting as stereotypes, pressure on women’s physical appearance, and exclusionary dynamics. Conclusions: The findings highlight that gendered ageism is a distinct stressor impacting workforce sustainability. Combating intersectional discrimination represents a strategic priority to safeguard well-being, retain skills, and build a healthy, resilient, and productive working environment. Full article

This research explores the impact of technology usage after work hours on workers’ green job outcomes, including green job performance and wellbeing. It also aimed to investigate the mediating role of work–family conflict among them. Drawing on the role conflict theory (RCT) and the job demands–resources (JDR) model, this study fills the current research gap regarding the way technology-driven job intrusion affects employee green job outcomes and clarifies the underlying path through which the mediating variable work–family conflict plays its crucial role. We collected data through an electronic survey from 334 workers of foreign companies working in Shanghai city in China. Results showed that workers’ use of technology after their work hours is negatively associated with their green job outcomes, specifically green job performance and wellbeing. We further found work–family conflict as a mediating variable in the associations between after-hours use of technology and (a) green job performance and (b) wellbeing, two green job outcomes of workers in organizations. This research offers significant practical implications regarding how organizations can achieve a balance between the use of technology and their green job outcomes in this technological era. In the context of the increasing digitalisation of education, teachers are facing growing technological demands that may affect their professional well-being. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between digital competencies, technostress, and teachers’ professional well-being. The research was conducted on a sample of primary school teachers using validated questionnaires. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and one-way analysis of variance. The results showed a statistically significant negative relationship between digital competencies and technostress, as well as a positive relationship between digital competencies and professional well-being. Digital competencies proved to be a significant positive predictor of professional well-being, while technostress did not make a significant independent contribution. Differences in the level of technostress were also found with regard to teachers’ years of work experience. In conclusion, the results highlight the importance of strengthening digital competencies as a key resource for maintaining teachers’ professional well-being in a digital environment. Full article

Achieving optimal daylighting is a cornerstone of sustainable architectural design, impacting energy efficiency and occupant well-being. Fast and accurate prediction during the conceptual phase is crucial but challenging. While physics-based simulations are accurate but slow, existing machine learning methods often rely on restrictive parametric inputs, limiting their application across free-form designs. This study presents a novel, geometry-agnostic framework that uses only building facade unfolding diagrams as input to a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). Our core innovation is a 2D representation that preserves 3D facade geometry and orientation by “unfolding” it onto the floor plan, eliminating the need for predefined parameters or intermediate features during prediction. A Pix2pixHD model was trained, validated, and tested on a total of 720 paired diagram-simulation images (split 80:10:10). The model achieves high-fidelity visual predictions, with a mean Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) of 0.93 against RADIANCE/Daysim benchmarks. When accounting for the practical time of diagram drafting, the complete workflow offers a speedup of approximately 1.5 to 52 times compared to conventional simulation.
