The present study developed and evaluated an integrated disaster nursing education program combining functional training and simulator-based learning to address limitations of traditional, theory-driven approaches. Overall, 49 senior nursing students completed the program using a four-stage repeated-measures design. The findings indicated a substantial enhancement in disaster nursing knowledge over time. However, problem-solving ability, learning self-efficacy, and motivation exhibited improvement only in post hoc comparisons. This contradictory yet fundamental finding suggests that knowledge acquisition occurs more directly, whereas problem-solving and motivational competencies require cumulative practice, feedback, and contextual immersion. Educator reflections and student debriefings further underscored the significance of teamwork, communication, and scenario relevance in facilitating learning transfer. Despite its limitations, including a single-site, female-dominated sample, reliance on self-reported measures, and a brief follow-up period, this study makes a significant contribution to the field of disaster nursing education by presenting a sustainable and adaptable model. Incorporation of multi-institutional and longitudinal designs, as well as qualitative analyses of learning processes will be crucial in future studies. Traditional lecture-based teaching often struggles to foster student engagement, active participation, and deep learning in large-class general education courses. As class sizes grow, students may become passive learners, limiting their ability to develop essential skills such as self-directed learning and teamwork. Innovative instructional strategies are needed to address these challenges and create a more interactive, student-centered learning environment. Team-Based Learning (TBL) has emerged as a practical pedagogical approach that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and student accountability. This study investigates the influence of TBL on Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and Team Dynamics (TD) through a quasi-experimental design. One class was classified as the experimental group (TBL), while the other was classified as the control group (traditional lecture-based teaching). Data were analyzed using independent-samples one-way ANCOVA and the Johnson–Neyman method to examine the impacts of TBL on SDL and TD. The results indicate that the experimental group adopting TBL outperformed the control group in both SDL and TD. The ANCOVA results revealed that TBL had a significant positive impact on the self-monitoring factor of SDL after controlling for pre-test scores. Furthermore, the Johnson–Neyman analysis demonstrated that the effect of TBL varied across different pre-test levels, suggesting that the influence of TBL on SDL and TD was more pronounced under certain conditions. Overall, this study supports the effectiveness of TBL as a pedagogical strategy in large-class general education courses, highlighting its potential to enhance students’ SDL and TD. These findings provide valuable insights for future teaching practices and curriculum design, emphasizing the need for more interactive, student-centered learning approaches in higher education. Collaboration is essential in today’s technology-driven world, where IT professionals work in teams to solve complex problems. To mirror industry practices, universities have increasingly adopted project-based learning approaches, requiring students to work collaboratively on tasks such as software development. However, while considerable research has examined group project outcomes, little is known about the decision-making processes students use to select their partners, particularly in software development. This study, therefore, explores the factors influencing IT students’ choices of group project partners and how these choices reflect broader learning priorities. A qualitative approach was employed, collecting open-ended responses from 103 software development students through individual interviews conducted via MS Teams. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring patterns in the data. Five main themes emerged: Personal Relationships & Familiarity, Work Ethic & Dedication, Communication & Teamwork, Reliability & Accountability, and Technical Skills & Competence. The findings indicate that students prioritise interpersonal trust, reliability, and communication skills over technical ability when selecting partners. This suggests that students view effective collaboration as grounded more in work ethic and relational qualities than in coding proficiency alone. Full article

This scoping review examines the affective–psychological and social characteristics of undergraduate engineering students in South Korea, identifying key research trends, thematic focuses, and gaps in the literature. A total of 95 peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2024 were analyzed based on publication year, journal outlet, research topics, and related variables. The literature search was conducted using major databases, including RISS, KCI, and DBpia. The findings highlight self-efficacy—particularly domain-specific self-efficacy—as a core construct linked to academic achievement, persistence, and career development. Social competencies such as communication, teamwork, and convergence ability are also emphasized; however, limited attention has been paid to emotional resilience, burnout, and ethical responsibility. Despite their growing importance in the artificial intelligence-driven era, gender differences, digital literacy, and global competencies remain underexplored. These findings underscore the need for learner-centered, evidence-based instructional strategies, as well as more longitudinal, comparative, and intervention-focused studies. This review offers foundational insights for designing inclusive, future-oriented educational programs tailored to the diverse needs of South Korean undergraduate engineering students. Full article

Technical drawing is a foundational university course typically taught in the first semester of most technical and engineering programmes. A thorough understanding of the course content and the ability to prepare high-quality technical documentation require basic knowledge of the technological processes applied in product manufacturing. However, these aspects are usually not part of the standard curriculum. The main goal of this research was to examine how the working methodology used during the project task (PT) affects students’ learning outcomes and social interactions. This study explores three different active learning methods applied during the realisation of the PT, involving one individual group and two teamwork groups, in one of which the students had the opportunity to manufacture a final product based on their technical documentation. In all three groups, student-centred and project-based learning methods were employed. This study uses a combination of two quantitative evaluations: one based on the difference in students’ pre- and post-test results and one supported by a survey performed at the end of the semester to capture the students’ experiences during the project and their satisfaction. The results demonstrate that the learning method that allows students to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing their own products significantly improves learning outcomes. Additionally, it enhances students’ satisfaction by fostering social interactions among them. Full article

The growing number of older adults with cancer confront practical and organizational limitations that hinder their ability to obtain care that is adapted to their health status, needs, expectations, and life choices. The integration into practice of evidence-based and institutional recommendations for a geriatric approach and person-centered high-quality care remains incomplete. This study uses an action research design to explore stakeholders’ perspectives of the challenges involved in translating the established care priorities into a compassionate geriatric approach in oncology and identify promising pathways to improvement. Fifty-three stakeholders participated in focus groups to create cognitive maps representing perceived relationships between concepts related to compassionate care of older adults with cancer. Combining maps results in a single model constructed in Mental Modeler software to weigh relationships and calculate concept centrality (importance in the model). The model represents stakeholders’ collective perspective of the determinants of compassionate care that need to be addressed at different decision-making levels. The results reveal pathways to improvement at systemic, organizational, practice, and societal levels. These include connecting policies on ageing and national cancer programs, addressing fragmented care through interdisciplinary teamwork, promoting person-centered care, cultivating relational proximity, and combatting ageism. Translating evidence-based practices and priority orientations into compassionate care rests on collective capacities across multiple providers to address the whole person and their unique trajectory. Background: As population aging accelerates, the demand for professionals in older adult care continues to rise. Traditional teaching methods often fail to improve students’ willingness to serve older adults or foster teamwork. This study evaluated the effects of integrating a flipped classroom with project-based learning (PBL) and a hands-on clinical practicum into a health internship course. Methods: A mixed-methods design was adopted. Participants included 88 interdisciplinary university students enrolled in an 18-week, two-credit geriatric health internship course offered at a university in central Taiwan from August 2023 to July 2024. The course combined flipped classroom and PBL approaches, as well as clinical practicum activities. Data on willingness to serve older adults, teamwork skills, and learning outcomes were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed with paired t-tests. Results: Significant improvements were found in willingness (from 68.93 to 73.15), teamwork (67.33 to 71.45), and learning outcomes (89.84 to 102.14) (p = 0.001). Qualitative findings further revealed increased empathy, improved teamwork, and enhanced ability to apply knowledge in real-world contexts. Conclusions: A teaching approach that integrates a flipped classroom, PBL, and a clinical practicum can effectively enhance students’ competencies in older adult care. Future research should explore long-term and cross-cultural impacts. Full article

The ability to collaborate with new teammates, adapt to unfamiliar environments, and engage in effective planning is essential for multi-drone agents within unmanned combat systems. This paper introduces DETEAMSK (Model-based Reinforcement Learning by Decoupling the Identification of Teammates and Tasks), a model-based reinforcement learning method in intelligent top-level planning and decisions designed for ad hoc teamwork among multi-drone agents. It specifically addresses integrated reconnaissance and strike missions in urban combat scenarios under varying conditions. DETEAMSK’s performance is evaluated through comprehensive, multidimensional experiments and compared with other baseline models. The results demonstrate that DETEAMSK exhibits superior effectiveness, robustness, and generalization capabilities across a range of task domains. Moreover, the model-based reinforcement learning approach offers distinct advantages over traditional models, such as the PLASTIC-Model, and model-free approaches, like the PLASTIC-Policy, due to its unique “dynamic decoupling identification” feature. This study provides valuable insights for advancing both theoretical and applied research in model-based reinforcement learning methods for multi-drone systems. Full article

This study presents a case of community-integrated project-based learning (PBL) at a Japanese National Institute of Technology (KOSEN). Three students collaborated to design and build a rideable 5-inch gauge railway system, integrating mechanical design, brushless motor control, and computer vision. The project was showcased at public events and a partner high school, providing authentic feedback and enhancing learning relevance. Over 15 weeks, students engaged in hands-on prototyping, interdisciplinary teamwork, and real-world problem-solving. The course design was grounded in four educational frameworks: experiential learning, situated learning, constructive alignment, and self-regulated learning (SRL). SRL refers to students’ ability to plan, monitor, and reflect on their learning—a key skill for managing complex engineering tasks. A mixed-methods evaluation—including surveys, reflections, classroom observations, and communication logs—revealed significant gains in technical competence, engagement, and learner autonomy. Although limited by a small sample size, the study offers detailed insights into how small-scale, resource-conscious PBL can support meaningful interdisciplinary learning and community involvement. This case illustrates how the KOSEN approach, combining technical education with real-world application, can foster both domain-specific and transferable skills, and provides a model for broader implementation of authentic, student-driven engineering education. Background: Fundamental movement skills (FMS)—including muscular strength, endurance, and mobility—are linked to better health-related quality of life and higher physical activity in children. Rural children often score lower on FMS tests than urban peers due to resource limitations rather than ability. Thus, increasing access to FMS activities in under-resourced rural areas is essential. The primary objective was to test the feasibility of Hoosier Strength in a rural middle school sample, and the secondary objective was to observe the preliminary changes in FMS-related outcomes pre- to post-intervention and at follow-up. The exploratory objective was to explore how participants responded to different coaches on the Hoosier Strength coaching team (i.e., gender, coaching style during activities). Methods: This study used a Hybrid Type 3 design to evaluate feasibility and FMS outcomes, integrating qualitative and quantitative data. The four-week intervention included a test group (n = 24; 14 females, 10 males; mean age: females 12.4 ± 0.5 years, males 12.7 ± 0.4 years) and a control group (n = 12; 8 females, 4 males; mean age: females 12.9 ± 0.3 years, males 12.7 ± 0.3 years). Data analysis included descriptive statistics for feasibility indicators (Acceptability of Intervention Measures [AIM], Intervention Appropriateness Measure [IAM], and Feasibility of Intervention Measure [FIM]), linear regression for mobility and muscular endurance changes, t-tests for psychological need satisfaction and frustration, and regression analysis for squat knowledge and post-intervention confidence. Results: (1) There was high feasibility across the 4-week Hoosier Strength intervention and at follow-up; (2) there were no statistically significant changes in squat performance; (3) participants’ confidence in their ability to squat at the end of the intervention was significantly predicted by their squat knowledge at baseline; and (4) participants prioritized leadership and team management over tactical analysis, highlighting a preference for coaches who foster teamwork. Conclusions: The findings offer a transparent approach for evaluating the feasibility and preliminary outcomes of the Hoosier Strength intervention in an under-resourced rural middle school, thereby encouraging further investigation into strength training interventions in rural schools. This research examines the link between business models and entrepreneurial capabilities among social assistance program participants who are aging adults in an emerging economic environment. The research targets the insufficient use of entrepreneurial abilities in seniors to advance their active aging potential while enhancing their life quality. This study collected data from selected participants by using Osterwalder and Pigneur’s business model framework as a basis for their structured questionnaire, which followed a quantitative–qualitative method. Researchers applied Spearman’s Rho statistical methods to measure relations between business elements and skills in self-confidence, creativity, initiative, perseverance, and teamwork demonstrated by entrepreneurs. The study results clearly showed that properly executed business models create substantial growth in entrepreneurial abilities among people of advanced age. This study contributes novel empirical evidence from a rural Peruvian context, confirming that structured business model training is positively associated with entrepreneurial outcomes among elderly populations. The findings (r = 0.755, p < 0.001) support the urgency of integrating capability-building into social assistance schemes. These results emphasize how targeted training programs should empower this population since this initiative supports Sustainable Development Goals like “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8) and “Reduced Inequalities” (SDG 10). The analysis demonstrates that teaching entrepreneurial abilities to mature individuals leads to better social entrepreneurship sustainability together with superior economic involvement and social connections. The development of students’ skills, abilities, competences and knowledge is the basis for sustainable socio-economic development. Today we live in a world that is in continuous change, both economically and socially, which also determines a change in the requirements on the labor market and therefore graduates and higher education institutions must continuously adapt to these changes. Thus, higher education institutions must adapt their teaching strategies and educational offer, while students must develop new skills and competences. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the extent to which the information, skills, attitudes and competences acquired by graduates of physical education and sports faculties during their years of study influence their standard of living, job satisfaction and confidence. To achieve this objective, we asked the following research questions: 1. To what extent do the information, skills, abilities and competences acquired by students during their years of study influence their income level, standard of living, job satisfaction and level of confidence in the workplace? 2. What is the self-perception of students regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? 3. What is the perception of employers regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? 4. To what extent are there differences between students’ self-perception and employers’ perception regarding the information, skills, abilities and knowledge that students possess? Thus, data were collected through two questionnaires, one distributed among 333 graduates from physical education and sports faculties in Romania and one to 11 employers working in the sports industry in Romania. The data obtained from the students were analyzed using SPSS 24, and it was found that there is a small correlation between the information, skills, competences and knowledge acquired during the years of study and the standard of living, job satisfaction and the confidence in one’s own ability to successfully perform tasks at work. Among the skills, abilities and aptitudes that students consider themselves to excel in are a passion for sports, the continuous desire for improvement, conscientiousness, teamwork, openness to new things and respect for hierarchies and regulations. At the opposite end, graduates consider that they need to improve their public speaking skills, management skills, their ability to communicate in a foreign language, their ability to sell themselves and their ability to manage a project. Background/Objectives: Historically, male nurses were predominant in mental health settings due to their perceived physical strength and ability to manage violent patients. However, societal changes and the evolution of nursing education have led to a decline in male participation. This study aims to explore the characteristics, qualities, and attributes of male mental health nurses, while aiming to identify factors that attract and retain, as well as that deter, men in this field, to inform male recruitment and retention strategies to grow the mental health nursing workforce. Methods: A scoping review was conducted across six databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ProQuest. The focus was on studies from 1970 to 2024. Screening and selection of studies were based on eligibility criteria. Narrative synthesis was conducted, and the study follows the PRISMA for Scoping Reviews checklist. Results: Limited research exists on male mental health nurses. The data highlight the unique contributions of male nurses, including their resilience, teamwork, and emotional competence. They also identify challenges such as workplace violence, stigma, and lack of career development opportunities. The literature suggests that targeted recruitment strategies and supportive work environments are essential to increase the number of male mental health nurses and address the nursing shortage in this specialty. Positive academic experiences and professional development opportunities are crucial for retaining male nurses. Conclusions: Addressing stigma associated with mental health nursing is needed, starting with a positive public health education campaign. Addressing workplace violence needs to stem from improved organisational procedures that promote the safety and wellbeing of nurses and clients, combined with de-escalation education and training; mentoring are vital to improving attraction, job satisfaction, and the retention of male nurses. By understanding these factors, health care organisations can better support male mental health nurses and enhance the overall quality of mental health care. Full article

The paper aims to identify the powerful forces of Generation Z’s (Gen Z) work motivations, considering four key drivers: recognition, appreciation, well-being, and skills. Four hypotheses were developed, and Gen Z-triggering motivational factors at work were analyzed using a survey approach. Using the collected data, a logistic regression model was constructed to investigate the effects on work motivation. An in-depth interview of managers from different companies was applied to identify Gen Z’s perceptions about the workplace. All four predictors proved to influence work motivation significantly. According to the answers of Gen Z’s members, wage is the primary motivator for them to increase work efficiency, with other financial and non-financial factors being less significant. Gen Z is generally not teamwork-oriented and prefers working alone to demonstrate their abilities and achieve greater efficiency. Gen Z switches jobs frequently and shows low loyalty to organizations, often prioritizing personal preferences over long-term commitment. This study explores Romanian Gen Z-triggering motivational factors and shows the motivators for increasing work efficiency. It provides unique insights into a less teamwork-oriented, low loyalty to organizations segment, filling a literature gap and offering business recommendations for connecting with this generation. This study explores the relationship between task-oriented behaviors, self-efficacy, and leadership emergence in women STEM students, grounded in the context of prototypical leadership theory and self-efficacy theory. Prototypical leadership theory emphasizes the alignment of leadership behaviors with group expectations, which, in STEM fields, are often task-oriented. The research examines how task-oriented behaviors, such as planning, decision-making, and supervision, influence women’s self-perception of leadership ability and their subsequent emergence as leaders. Our results show a positive relationship between task-oriented behaviors and self-efficacy and a positive relationship between self-efficacy with leader emergence, with academic experience further ngthening this link. As students’ progress through their programs, engaging in more teamwork and leadership tasks, their self-efficacy enhances, leading to stronger leadership emergence. Also, we found an indirect effect from task-oriented behavior to leader emergence via self-efficacy. These findings have significant implications for fostering leadership in women, particularly in STEM. The study calls for educational programs to enhance opportunities for women to develop these behaviors early on, ensuring their growth into leadership roles in STEM fields. Full article
