The growing global demand for electricity, driven by the development of electromobility, data centers, and smart technologies, necessitates innovative approaches to energy generation. Wind power, as a clean and renewable energy source, plays a pivotal role in the global transition towards low-carbon power systems. This paper presents a comprehensive review of generator technologies used in wind turbine applications, ranging from conventional synchronous and asynchronous machines to advanced concepts such as low-speed direct-drive (DD) generators, axial-flux topologies, and superconducting generators utilizing low-temperature superconductors (LTS) and high-temperature superconductors (HTS). The advantages and limitations of each design are discussed in the context of efficiency, weight, reliability, scalability, and suitability for offshore deployment. Special attention is given to HTS-based generator systems, which offer superior power density and reduced losses, along with challenges related to cryogenic cooling and materials engineering. Furthermore, the paper analyzes selected modern generator designs to provide references for enhancing the performance of grid-synchronized hybrid microgrids integrating solar PV, wind, battery energy storage, and HTS-enhanced generators. This review serves as a valuable resource for researchers and engineers developing next-generation wind energy technologies with improved efficiency and integration potential. Full article

With the rapid proliferation of real-time digital communication, particularly in multimedia applications, securing transmitted image data has become a vital concern. While chaotic systems have shown strong potential for cryptographic use, most existing approaches rely on low-dimensional, integer-order architectures, limiting their complexity and resistance to attacks. Advances in fractional calculus and memristive technologies offer new avenues for enhancing security through more complex and tunable dynamics. However, the practical deployment of high-dimensional fractional-order memristive chaotic systems in hardware remains underexplored. This study addresses this gap by presenting a secure image transmission system implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) using a universal high-dimensional memristive chaotic topology with arbitrary-order dynamics. The design leverages four- and five-dimensional hyperchaotic oscillators, analyzed through bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents. To enable efficient hardware realization, the chaotic dynamics are approximated using the explicit fractional-order Runge–Kutta (EFORK) method with the Caputo fractional derivative, implemented in VHDL. Deployed on the Xilinx Artix-7 AC701 platform, synchronized master–slave chaotic generators drive a multi-stage stream cipher. This encryption process supports both RGB and grayscale images. Evaluation shows strong cryptographic properties: correlation of 6.1081×105, entropy of 7.9991, NPCR of 99.9776%, UACI of 33.4154%, and a key space of 21344, confirming high security and robustness. Interaction Mechanism and Coupling Strategy of Higher Education and Innovation Capability in China Based on Interprovincial Panel Data from 2010 to 2022

The sustainable development of higher education exhibits a strong and measurable association with the level of regional innovation capacity. Drawing on panel data covering 31 provincial-level administrative regions in China from 2010 to 2022, we construct evaluation frameworks for both higher education and regional innovation capacity using the entropy weight method. These are complemented by kernel density estimation, spatial autocorrelation analysis, Dagum Gini coefficient decomposition, and the Obstacle Degree Model. Together, these tools enable a comprehensive investigation into the spatiotemporal evolution and driving mechanisms of coupling coordination dynamics between the two systems. The results indicate the following: (1) Both higher education and regional innovation capacity indices exhibit steady growth, accompanied by a clear temporal gradient differentiation. (2) The coupling coordination degree shows an overall upward trend, with significant inter-regional disparities, notably “higher in the east and low in the west”. (3) The spatial distribution of the coupling coordination degree reveals positive spatial autocorrelation, with provinces exhibiting similar levels tending to form spatial clusters, most commonly of the low–low or high–high type. (4) The spatial heterogeneity is pronounced, with inter-regional differences driving overall imbalance. (5) Key obstacles hindering regional innovation include inadequate R&D investment, limited trade openness, and weak technological development. In higher education sectors, limitations stem from insufficient social service benefits and efficiency of flow. This study recommends promoting the synchronized advancement of higher education and regional innovation through region-specific development strategies, strengthening institutional infrastructure, and accurately identifying and addressing key barriers. These efforts are essential to fostering high-quality, coordinated regional development. Full article

In wind-assisted orchard spraying operations, the dynamic response of leaves—manifested through changes in their posture—critically influences droplet deposition on both sides of the leaf surface and the penetration depth into the canopy. These factors are pivotal in determining spray coverage and the spatial distribution of pesticide efficacy. However, current research lacks comprehensive quantification and correlation analysis of the temporal response characteristics of leaves under wind disturbances. To address this gap, a systematic analytical framework was proposed, integrating real-time leaf segmentation and tracking, geometric feature quantification, and statistical correlation modeling. High-frame-rate videos of fluttering leaves were acquired under controlled wind conditions, and background segmentation was performed using principal component analysis (PCA) followed by clustering in the reduced feature space. A fine-tuned Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM2-FT) was employed to extract dynamic leaf masks and enable frame-by-frame tracking. Based on the extracted masks, time series of leaf area and inclination angle were constructed. Subsequently, regression analysis, cross-correlation functions, and Granger causality tests were applied to investigate cooperative responses and potential driving relationships among leaves. Results showed that the SAM2-FT model significantly outperformed the YOLO series in segmentation accuracy, achieving a precision of 98.7% and recall of 97.48%. Leaf area exhibited strong linear coupling and directional causality, while angular responses showed weaker correlations but demonstrated localized synchronization. This study offers a methodological foundation for quantifying temporal dynamics in wind–leaf systems and provides theoretical insights for the adaptive control and optimization of intelligent spraying strategies. This paper presents an accurate analysis of the power losses of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor fed by a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. The main goal of this study is to investigate the impact of the cascaded h-bridge inverter, multicarrier PWM strategies, and inverter switching frequency on the synchronous motor power losses. With this aim in mind, a detailed frequency domain power analysis was carried out on motor power losses at different operating points in the frequency–torque plane. Motor power losses were further categorized into fundamental and harmonic power losses. This evaluation involved driving the power converter using six distinct multicarrier PWM strategies at four different switching frequencies. Additionally, a comparison was conducted with a conventional two-level PWM inverter to quantify the reduction in motor power losses. The experimental results show that the cascaded h-bridge inverter guarantees a notable increase in the motor efficiency, up to 7%, and losses in segregation at the fundamental frequency, if compared to the standard two-level PWM inverter, especially at low speed and with partial-load conditions. Such results mark out the cascaded H-bridge inverter as a valuable choice, also with regard to low-voltage drive applications. Full article

This paper presents the development of a compact nanopositioning stage with long-range capabilities and six-degree-of-freedom (DOF) closed-loop control. The system, referred to as NPS6D100, provides Ø100 mm planar and 10 mm vertical travel range while maintaining direct force transfer to the moving platform (or slider) in all DOFs. Based on an integrated planar direct drive concept, the system is enhanced by precise vertical actuation and full 6D output feedback control. The mechanical structure, drive architecture, guiding, and measurement subsystems are described in detail, along with experimental results that confirm sub-10 nm servo errors under constant setpoint operation and in synchronized multi-axis motion scenarios. With its scalable and low-disturbance design, the NPS6D100 is well suited as a nanopositioning platform for sub-10 nm applications in nanoscience and precision metrology. Full article

Smart home technology enhances the quality of life, particularly with respect to in-home care and health monitoring. While video-based methods provide accurate behavior analysis, privacy concerns drive interest in non-visual alternatives. This study proposes a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-enabled indoor positioning and behavior recognition system, integrating machine learning techniques to support sustainable and privacy-preserving health monitoring. Key optimizations include: (1) a vertically mounted Data Collection Unit (DCU) for improved height positioning, (2) synchronized data collection to reduce discrepancies, (3) Kalman filtering to smooth RSSI signals, and (4) AI-based RSSI analysis for enhanced behavior recognition. Experiments in a real home environment used a smart wristband to assess BLE signal variations across different activities (standing, sitting, lying down). The results show that the proposed system reliably tracks user locations and identifies behavior patterns. This research supports elderly care, remote health monitoring, and non-invasive behavior analysis, providing a privacy-preserving solution for smart healthcare applications. Full article

Direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generators (DD-PMSGs) have been widely adopted in wind power generation systems owing to their distinctive advantages, including direct-drive operation, high power density, and superior energy conversion efficiency. However, the high power density of the generator inevitably leads to heat generation issues, which affect the reliability of the generator. To address the thermal issues in the 4.5 MW direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (DD-PMSG), this paper proposes a novel forced air-cooling ventilation system. Through comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and fundamental thermodynamic analysis, the cooling performance is systematically evaluated to determine the optimal width of the stator ventilation ducts. Furthermore, based on the temperature distribution of the stator and rotor, three optimization schemes for non-uniform core segments are proposed. By comparing the ventilation cooling performance under three structural schemes, the optimal structural scheme is provided for the generator. Finally, the feasibility of the heat dissipation scheme and the accuracy of the simulation calculations are verified by fabricating a prototype and setting up an experimental platform. The above conclusions and research results can provide some reference for the design of the core ventilation ducts structure of subsequent wind turbines. Full article

Thermal control in rolling mills motors is gaining importance as more and more hard-to-deform steel grades are rolled. The capabilities of diagnostics monitoring also expand as digital IIoT-based technologies are adopted. Electrical drives in modern rolling mills are based on synchronous motors with frequency regulation. Such motors are expensive, while their reliability impacts the metallurgical plant output. Hence, developing the on-line temperature monitoring systems for such motors is extremely urgent. This paper presents a solution applying to synchronous motors of the upper and lower rolls in the horizontal roll stand of plate mill 5000. The installed capacity of each motor is 12 MW. According to the digitalization tendency, on-line monitoring systems should be based on digital shadows (coordinate observers) that are similar to digital twins, widely introduced at metallurgical plants. Modern reliability requirements set the continuous temperature monitoring for stator and rotor windings and iron core. This article is the first to describe a method for calculating thermal loads based on the data sets created during rolling. The authors have developed a thermal state observer based on four-mass model of motor heating built using the Simscape Thermal Models library domains that is part of the MATLAB Simulink. Virtual adjustment of the observer and of the thermal model was performed using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation. The authors have validated the results by comparing the observer’s values with the actual values measured at control points. The discrete masses heating was studied during the rolling cycle. The stator and rotor winding temperature was analysed at different periods. The authors have concluded that the motors of the upper and lower rolls are in a satisfactory condition. The results of the study conducted generally develop the idea of using object-oriented digital shadows for the industrial electrical equipment. The authors have introduced technologies that improve the reliability of the rolling mills electrical drives which accounts for the innovative development in metallurgy. The authors have also provided recommendations on expanded industrial applications of the research results. Full article

Advances in Industry 4.0 and the emergence of Industry 5.0 are driving the development of intelligent, sustainable manufacturing systems, where embedded sensing and real-time health diagnostics play a critical role. However, implementing robust predictive maintenance in production environments remains challenging due to the variability in machine operations and the lack of access to internal control data. This paper introduces a lightweight, embedded-compatible framework for health status signature extraction based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD), leveraging only data from a single triaxial accelerometer. The core of the proposed method is a cycle-synchronized segmentation strategy that uses accelerometer-derived velocity profiles and cross-correlation to align signals with machining cycles, eliminating the need for controller or encoder access. This ensures process-aware decomposition that preserves the operational context across diverse and dynamic machining conditions to address the inadequate segmentation of unstable process data that often fails to capture the full scope of the process, resulting in misinterpretation. The performance is evaluated on a challenging real-world manufacturing benchmark where the extracted intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are analyzed in the frequency domain, including quantitative evaluation. As results show, the proposed method shows its effectiveness in detecting subtle degradations, following a low computational footprint, and its suitability for deployment in embedded predictive maintenance systems on brownfield or controller-limited machinery. Automotive intelligent agents are increasingly collecting facial data for applications such as driver behavior monitoring and identity verification. These excessive collections of facial data bring serious risks of sensitive information leakage to autonomous driving. Facial information has been explicitly required to be anonymized, but the availability of most desensitized facial data is poor, which will greatly affect its application in autonomous driving. This paper proposes an automotive sensitive information anonymization method with high-quality generated facial images by considering the data availability under privacy protection. By comparing K-Same and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), this paper proposes a hierarchical self-attention mechanism in StyleGAN3 to enhance the feature perception of face images. The synchronous regularization of sample data is applied to optimize the loss function of the discriminator of StyleGAN3, thereby improving the convergence stability of the model. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed facial desensitization model reduces the Frechet inception distance (FID) and structural similarity index measure (SSIM) by 95.8% and 24.3%, respectively. The image quality and privacy desensitization of the facial data generated by the StyleGAN3 model have been fully verified in this work. This research provides an efficient and robust facial privacy protection solution for autonomous driving, which is conducive to promoting the security guarantee of automotive data. Full article

In recent years, the rapid spread of electric vehicles (EVs) has intensified the competition to develop power units for EVs. In particular, improving the driving range of EVs has become a major topic, and in order to achieve this, many studies have been conducted on improving the efficiency of EV power units. In this study, we propose a multiple-inverter-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor based on an 8-pole, 48-slot structure, which is commonly used as an EV motor. The proposed motor is composed of two completely independent parallel inverters and windings, and intermittent operation is possible; that is, only one inverter and one parallel winding is used depending on the situation. In the proposed motor, we compare losses including stator iron loss, rotor iron loss, and magnet eddy current loss by PWM voltage inputs for some stator winding topologies, we show that the one-side winding arrangement is the most efficient during intermittent operation, and that it is more efficient than normal operation especially in the low-speed, low-torque range. Finally, through a vehicle-driving simulation considering the efficiency map including motor loss and inverter loss, we show that the intentional use of intermittent operation can improve electrical energy consumption. This paper presents a simulation framework for evaluating power flow, energy efficiency, thermal behavior, and energy consumption in electric vehicles (EVs) under standardized driving conditions. A detailed Simulink model is developed, integrating a lithium-ion battery, inverter, permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), gearbox, and a field-oriented control strategy with PI-based speed and current regulation. The framework is applied to four standard driving cycles—UDDS, HWFET, WLTP, and NEDC—to assess system performance under varied load conditions. The UDDS cycle imposes the highest thermal loads, with temperature rises of 76.5 °C (motor) and 52.0 °C (inverter). The HWFET cycle yields the highest energy efficiency, with PMSM efficiency reaching 92% and minimal SOC depletion (15%) due to its steady-speed profile. The WLTP cycle shows wide power fluctuations (−30–19.3 kW), and a motor temperature rise of 73.6 °C. The NEDC results indicate a thermal increase of 75.1 °C. Model results show good agreement with published benchmarks, with deviations generally below 5%, validating the framework’s accuracy. These findings underscore the importance of cycle-sensitive analysis in optimizing energy use and thermal management in EV powertrain design. Full article

This paper presents a novel wireless control framework for electric drive systems by employing a fuzzy brain emotional learning neural network (FBELNN) controller in conjunction with a Disturbance Observer (DO). The communication scheme uses chaotic system dynamics to ensure data confidentiality and robustness against disturbance in wireless environments. To be applied to embedded microprocessors, the continuous-time chaotic system is discretized using the Grunwald–Letnikov approximation. To avoid the loss of generality of chaotic behavior, Lyapunov exponents are computed to validate the preservation of chaos in the discrete-time domain. The FBELNN controller is then developed to synchronize two non-identical chaotic systems under different initial conditions, enabling secure data encryption and decryption. Additionally, the DOB is introduced to estimate and mitigate the effects of bounded uncertainties and external disturbances, enhancing the system’s resilience to stealthy attacks. The proposed control structure is experimentally implemented on a wireless communication system utilizing ESP32 microcontrollers (Espressif Systems, Shanghai, China) based on the ESP-NOW protocol. Both control and feedback signals of the electric drive system are encrypted using chaotic states, and real-time decryption at the receiver confirms system integrity. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in achieving robust synchronization, accurate signal recovery, and a reliable wireless control system. The combination of FBELNN and DOB demonstrates significant potential for real-time, low-cost, and secure applications in smart electric drive systems and industrial automation. Full article

Development and Fuel Economy Optimization of Series–Parallel Hybrid Powertrain for Van-Style VW Crafter Vehicle

The presence of toxic gas emissions from conventional vehicles is worrisome globally. Over the past few years, there has been a broad adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce energy usage and mitigate environmental emissions. The EVs are characterized by limited range, cost, and short range. This prompts the need for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). This study describes the conversion of a 2022 Volkswagen Crafter (VW) 35 TDI 340 delivery van from a conventional diesel powertrain into a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) augmented with synchronous electrical machines (motor and generator) and a BMW i3 60 Ah battery pack. A downsized 1.5 L diesel engine and an electric motor–generator unit are integrated via a planetary power split device supported by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery. A MATLAB (R2024b) Simulink model of the hybrid system is developed, and its speed tracking PID controller is optimized using genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) methods. The simulation results show significant efficiency gains: for example, average fuel consumption falls from 9.952 to 7.014 L/100 km (a 29.5% saving) and CO2 emissions drop from 260.8 to 186.0 g/km (a 74.8 g reduction), while the vehicle range on a 75 L tank grows by ~40.7% (from 785.7 to 1105.5 km). The optimized series–parallel powertrain design significantly improves urban driving economy and reduces emissions without compromising performance. Full article
