This paper examines the effect of digital innovation on cost stickiness in manufacturing firms, focusing on the underlying mechanisms and contextual factors. Using data from Chinese A-share listed manufacturing firms from 2012 to 2023, we find that, first, for each one-unit increase in the level of digital technology, the cost stickiness index of enterprises decreases by an average of 0.4315 units, primarily through digital process innovation and digital business model innovation, whereas digital product innovation does not exhibit a statistically significant impact. Second, manufacturing servitization and the optimization of human capital structure are identified as key mediating mechanisms. Digital innovation promotes servitization by transitioning firms from product-centric to service-oriented business models, thereby reducing fixed costs and improving resource flexibility. It also optimizes human capital by increasing the proportion of high-skilled employees and reducing labor adjustment costs. Third, the effect of digital innovation on cost stickiness is found to be heterogeneous. Firms with high financing constraints benefit more from the cost-reducing effects of digital innovation due to improved resource allocation efficiency. Additionally, mid-tenure executives are more effective in leveraging digital innovation to mitigate cost stickiness, as they balance short-term performance pressures with long-term strategic investments. These findings contribute to the understanding of how digital transformation reshapes cost behavior in manufacturing and provide insights for policymakers and firms seeking to achieve sustainable development through digital innovation. This theoretical essay aims to analyze some of the socio-economic innovations introduced by Platform Capitalism Specifically, it focuses on two main aspects: first, the digital platform as a radical organizational innovation. Digital platforms represent a structural novelty in the market economy, signaling a new organization of production and labor. Second, the essay examines the role of platforms in directly generating value through the concept of “network value”. To this end, it explores the function of “business intelligence” as a strategic and competitive tool. Finally, the paper discusses the key issues associated with platform capitalism, which could threaten its social sustainability and contribute to economic and financial instability. These issues include the increasing commodification of everyday activities, the devaluation of paid labor in favor of free production driven by platform users (the so-called prosumers), and the emergence of proprietary and financial monopolies. Hence, digital platforms do not inherently ensure comprehensive social and environmental sustainability unless supported by targeted economic policy interventions. Conclusively, it is emphasized that defining robust social welfare frameworks—which account for emerging value creation processes—is imperative. Simultaneously, policymakers must incentivize the proliferation of cooperative platforms capable of fostering experimental circular economy models aligned with ecological sustainability. Full article

Industry 4.0 represents a significant transformation in industrial systems through digital integration, presenting both opportunities and challenges for aligning the workforce, especially in emerging economies like Thailand. This study adopts a sequential exploratory mixed-method approach to investigate how strategic human resource development (HRD) contributes to sustainable transformation, defined as the enduring alignment between workforce capabilities and technological advancement. The qualitative phase involved case studies of five Thai manufacturing firms at varying levels of Industry 4.0 adoption, utilizing semi-structured interviews with executives and HR leaders. Thematic findings informed the development of a structured survey, distributed to 144 firms. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS SEM) was used to test the hypothesized relationships among business pressures, leadership support, HRD preparedness, and technological readiness. The analysis reveals that business pressures significantly influence leadership and HRD, which in turn facilitate technological readiness. However, business pressures alone do not directly enhance readiness without the support of intermediaries. These results underscore the critical role of integrated HRD and leadership frameworks in enabling sustainable digital transformation. This study contributes to theoretical perspectives by integrating HRD, leadership, and technological readiness, offering practical guidance for firms aiming to navigate the complexities of Industry 4.0. The age of entrepreneurship calls for the evolving of learning and development (L&D) models to meet the dynamic demands of innovation, sustainability, and technology innovation. This study examines the trends and issues of L&D models for entrepreneurs, more so focusing on how these models influence business success in a rapidly changing global landscape. The research employs bibliometric analysis, VOSviewer cluster analysis, and co-citation analysis to explore the literature from 1994 to 2024. Data collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database reflect significant trends in entrepreneurial L&D, with particular emphasis on the use of digital tools, sustainability processes, and governance systems. Findings emphasize the imperative role of L&D in fostering entrepreneurship, more so in areas such as digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies. The study also identifies central regions propelling this field, such as UK and USA. Future studies will be centered on the role of digital technologies, innovation, and green business models within entrepreneurial L&D frameworks. This study provides useful insight into the future of L&D within the entrepreneurial domain, guiding academia and companies alike in the planning of effective learning strategies to foster innovation and sustainable business growth. Sustainability reporting has evolved into a multidimensional field encompassing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure, integrated reporting (IR), and circular economy (CE) practices. This study aims to map the intellectual and thematic landscape of sustainability reporting research over the past decade, with a focus on sectoral differentiation. Drawing on bibliometric analysis of 1611 scientific articles indexed in Scopus, this research applies co-word analysis, thematic mapping, and bibliographic coupling to identify prevailing trends, conceptual clusters, and knowledge gaps. The results reveal a clear progression from fragmented debates toward a more integrated discourse combining ESG, IR, and CE frameworks. In the real economy, sustainability reporting demonstrates a mature operational focus, supported by standardized frameworks and extensive empirical evidence. In contrast, the banking sector exhibits emerging engagement with sustainability disclosure, while the public sector remains at an earlier stage of conceptual and practical development. Despite the increasing convergence of research streams, gaps persist in linking reporting practices to tangible sustainability outcomes, integrating digital innovations, and addressing social dimensions of circularity. This study concludes that further interdisciplinary and sector-specific research is essential to advance credible, comparable, and decision-useful reporting practices capable of supporting the transition toward sustainable and circular business models. In a business environment with rapidly growing digital technologies, knowledge management (KM) capability is an indispensable source for enterprise innovation activities. Nevertheless, there is limited understanding of the specific KM capability that leads to sustainable business model innovation (SBMI). This study therefore aimed to investigate the internal relationship between KM capability and SBMI by leveraging dynamic capability theory. A hierarchical regression analysis (HRA) and a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) are used to analyze a sample of 115 Chinese innovative enterprises. The results indicate that organizational structure promotes information technology by improving human capital, and that information technology then stimulates collaboration depth by expanding collaboration breadth, thereby driving SBMI. Specifically, human capital, information technology, collaboration breadth, and collaboration depth play significant chain-mediating roles in the relationship between organizational structure and SBMI. This study contributes to the literature on KM and innovation management, extends the use of low-order and high-order dynamic capabilities in DCT, and assists managers in developing SBMI effectively. This study addresses a critical gap in understanding how mobile banking applications contribute to sustainable development by introducing a novel text mining framework to analyze sustainability dimensions through user-generated content. We analyzed 120,000 reviews from six major Turkish mobile banking applications using an ownership-sensitive analytical approach that integrates structural topic modeling with four sustainability dimensions (environmental, social, governance, and economic). Our analysis reveals significant institutional differences in sustainability approaches: government-owned banks demonstrate substantially stronger overall sustainability orientation (23.43% vs. 11.83% coverage) with pronounced emphasis on social sustainability (+181.7% growth) and economic development (+104.2% growth), while private banks prioritize innovation-focused sustainability. The temporal analysis (2022–2025) shows accelerating sustainability emphasis across all institutions, with distinct evolution patterns by ownership type. Institution-specific sustainability profiles emerge clearly, with each government bank demonstrating distinctive focus areas aligned with historical missions: cultural heritage preservation, agricultural sector support, and small business development. Mapping to Sustainable Development Goals reveals that government banks prioritize development-focused goals (SDGs 1, 8, and 10), while private banks emphasize innovation-focused goals (SDGs 9 and 17). This research makes three key contributions: demonstrating user-generated content as an effective lens for authentic sustainability assessment, establishing ownership-sensitive evaluation frameworks for digital banking sustainability, and providing empirical evidence for contextualized rather than universal sustainability strategies. The findings offer strategic implications for financial institutions, policymakers, and app developers seeking to enhance sustainable digital banking transformation. Full article

This study discusses the role of organizational pro-environmental behavior in driving sustainable development. Studies of green practices highlight their capacity to achieve ecological goals while delivering economic sustainability with business strategies for sustainable businesses and advancing environmental sustainability law. It also considers how the development of artificial intelligence, resource management, big data analysis, blockchain, and the Internet of Things enables companies to maximize supply efficiency and address evolving environmental regulations and sustainable decision-making. Through digital technology, businesses can facilitate supply chain transparency, adopt circular economy practices, and produce in an equitable and environmentally friendly manner. Additionally, intelligent business management practices, such as effective decision-making and sustainability reporting, enhance compliance with authorities while ensuring long-term profitability from a legal perspective. Integrating business innovation and digital technology within legal entities enhances economic efficiency, reduces operational costs, improves environmental sustainability, reduces paper usage, and lowers the carbon footprint, creating a double-benefit model of long-term resilience. The policymakers’ role in formulating policy structures that lead to green digital innovation is also to ensure that economic development worldwide is harmonized with environmental protection and international governance. Using example studies and empirical research raises awareness about best practices in technology-based sustainability initiatives across industries and nations, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This paper presents an integrated Smart City platform that combines digital twin technology, advanced machine learning, and a private blockchain network to enhance data-driven decision making and operational efficiency in both public enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The proposed cloud-based business intelligence model automates Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, enables real-time analytics, and secures data integrity and transparency through blockchain-enabled audit trails. By implementing the proposed solution, Smart City and public service providers can significantly improve operational efficiency, including a 15% reduction in costs and a 12% decrease in fuel consumption for waste management, as well as increased citizen engagement and transparency in Smart City governance. The digital twin component facilitated scenario simulations and proactive resource management, while the participatory governance module empowered citizens through transparent, immutable records of proposals and voting. This study also discusses technical, organizational, and regulatory challenges, such as data integration, scalability, and privacy compliance. The results indicate that the proposed approach offers a scalable and sustainable model for Smart City transformation, fostering citizen trust, regulatory compliance, and measurable environmental and social benefits. The increasing integration of renewable energy sources (RES) in power systems presents challenges related to variability, stability, and efficiency, particularly in smart microgrids. This systematic review, following the PRISMA 2020 methodology, analyzed 66 studies focused on advanced energy storage systems, intelligent control strategies, and optimization techniques. Hybrid storage solutions combining battery systems, hydrogen technologies, and pumped hydro storage were identified as effective approaches to mitigate RES intermittency and balance short- and long-term energy demands. The transition from centralized to distributed control architectures, supported by predictive analytics, digital twins, and AI-based forecasting, has improved operational planning and system monitoring. However, challenges remain regarding interoperability, data privacy, cybersecurity, and the limited availability of high-quality data for AI model training. Economic analyses show that while initial investments are high, long-term operational savings and improved resilience justify the adoption of advanced microgrid solutions when supported by appropriate policies and financial mechanisms. Future research should address the standardization of communication protocols, development of explainable AI models, and creation of sustainable business models to enhance resilience, efficiency, and scalability. These efforts are necessary to accelerate the deployment of decentralized, low-carbon energy systems capable of meeting future energy demands under increasingly complex operational conditions. Evaluating China’s Electric Vehicle Adoption with PESTLE: Stakeholder Perspectives on Sustainability and Adoption Barriers

The electric vehicle (EV) business model integrates advanced battery technology, dynamic power train architectures, and intelligent energy management systems with ecosystem strategies and digital services. It incorporates environmental sustainability through lifecycle analysis and renewable energy integration. China, with 9.49 million EV sales in 2023 (33% market share), faces infrastructure gaps constraining further growth. China is strategically mitigating CO2 emissions while fostering economic expansion, notwithstanding constraints such as suboptimal battery technology advancements, elevated production expenditure, and enduring ecological impacts. This Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental (PESTLE) assessment, operationalized through a survey of 800 stakeholders and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences IBM SPSS SPSS (Version 28) quantitative analysis (factor loading = 0.73 for Technology; eigenvalue = 4.12), identifies infrastructure gaps as the dominant barrier (72% of stakeholders). Political factors (β = 0.82) emerged as the strongest adoption predictor, outweighing economic subsidies in significance. The adoption of EVs in China presents a significant prospect for reducing CO2 emissions and advancing technology. However, economic barriers, market dynamics, inadequate infrastructure, regulatory uncertainty, and social acceptance issues are addressed in the assessment. The study recommends prioritizing infrastructure investment (e.g., 500 K fast-charging stations by 2027) and policy stability to overcome adoption barriers. This study provides three key advances: (1) quantification of PESTLE factor weights via factor analysis, revealing technological (infrastructure) and political factors as dominant; (2) identification of infrastructure gaps, not subsidies, as the primary adoption barrier; and (3) demonstration of infrastructure’s persistence post-subsidy cuts. These insights redefine EV adoption priorities in China. Full article

This study aims to examine the influence of sustainable leadership, organizational culture, and digital marketing on sustainable performance in tourism sector companies in Indonesia. In addition, the research investigates the indirect effects through knowledge sharing. Specifically, the study explores the moderating role of knowledge sharing in the relationship between sustainable leadership and organizational culture with sustainable performance. The research gap in this study lies in its approach, which combines several variables that have not been widely explored in the context of sustainability in the tourism facilities sector. The population of this research comprises all tourism facility companies operating in natural tourism areas in Indonesia that have been officially licensed by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The sample consists of 103 tourism facility companies. Respondents selected were company leaders or managers deemed to possess in-depth knowledge of the company’s operations and business strategies. The analysis method employed was Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), utilizing SmartPLS 4.1.1.2 software to test the hypotheses. The findings indicate that sustainable leadership, organizational culture, and digital marketing significantly influence sustainable performance. However, sustainable leadership and organizational culture do not significantly influence digital marketing. Furthermore, the study confirms that knowledge sharing serves as a moderating variable that strengthens the relationship between sustainable leadership and organizational culture with sustainable performance. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for tourism sector companies to enhance sustainable performance through the implementation of sustainable leadership, a supportive organizational culture, and effective utilization of digital marketing. Digital competences (DC) are vital for improving employability, especially in tourism, where adapting to technology and communicating effectively are key. Proficiency in digital tools and a second language (SL) significantly enhances organizational performance and competitiveness, supporting sustainable development and innovation in dynamic business environments. This study explores the causal link between digital competences and employability dimensions, including second-language skills, in SMEs within the tourism sector in Quindío and Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Using a quantitative approach, data from 114 employees were collected through a semi-structured survey and analyzed via partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to determine significant relationships. The results reveal that digital competences significantly enhance technological management, occupational experience (OE), anticipation and optimization (AO), and personal flexibility (PF). These skills contribute to sustainable tourism by promoting adaptability, innovation, and inclusive employability. Additionally, second-language proficiency demonstrates strong explanatory power in communication-related aspects. The findings highlight the need for tourism enterprises to prioritize digital upskilling, integrate research and innovation into job functions, strengthen adaptability to organizational changes, and view second-language development as a strategic resource. The ongoing digitalization of industrial companies requires a structured, strategic integration of digital concepts into business processes. Digital transformation (DT) requires clearly defined roadmaps that align digital technologies with business objectives. Although there are many digital maturity models (DMMs), most are industry-specific and do not address the unique characteristics of individual companies. Even SME-focused models often struggle to close the gap between current and target maturity levels, hindering effective DT implementation. This study examines the existing academic and professional literature on DMMs for SMEs and assesses digital readiness in an industrial context. From these findings, the Dynamic Adaptive Maturity Assessment Model (DAMA-AHP) was developed. It comprises 66 DT elements in six dimensions: People and Expertise, Operability, Organization, Products and Production Processes, Strategy, and Technology. DAMA-AHP incorporates the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which has been enhanced with customizable weighting at both the dimension and element levels. This enables precise alignment with the company’s priorities and the definition of customized target maturity levels that form the basis for a tailored transformation roadmap. Validation through a case study confirmed the practical value of DAMA-AHP in measuring digital maturity and defining strategic DT priorities. It provides a comprehensive, adaptable, and dynamic framework that promotes continuous improvement and sustainable competitiveness of SMEs in the evolving digital economy. Full article

This study investigates the impact of tokenomics and the integration of blockchain technology on China’s digital economy, focusing on how blockchain adoption influences traditional business models. As China becomes a global leader in digital transformation, understanding the role of the blockchain in economic modernization is critical. The aim of this research is to quantify the effects of blockchain adoption on key economic indicators such as GDP growth, investment levels, and business innovation. Using panel data analysis and regression models, this study provides empirical evidence on the positive correlation between blockchain integration and improved economic performance. Key results reveal that a 1% increase in blockchain adoption is associated with a 0.3% rise in GDP growth, while tokenization contributes significantly to investment levels and business innovation. These findings emphasize the transformative potential of the blockchain in enhancing economic stability, increasing liquidity, and fostering new business opportunities. In conclusion, this research highlights the critical role of the blockchain and tokenomics in driving economic modernization in China, offering valuable insights for policymakers, business leaders, and investors aiming to leverage digital technologies for sustainable growth. Future research should explore the broader global implications of blockchain adoption and tokenomics in emerging markets. Full article
