This research addresses the difference between the green economy and corporate social responsibility (CSR), focusing on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSEs) that produce textiles such as fabrics, clothing, footwear, and services in eastern Lima, Peru. In a global scenario where sustainability has become an essential pillar of economic, social, and environmental development, it is essential to understand how green economy concepts can be incorporated into local business activities. Given the significant role of MSEs in the national economy and their impact on employment and the social fabric, these companies face the challenge of balancing economic growth with responsible and sustainable practices. This study begins with a central question: how can sustainable economic practices promote CSR in this business sector? Using a quantitative approach, the study analyzes how the green economy acts as a driver of CSR in MSEs, as well as the degree of connection between the green economy and the implementation of social responsibility policies and actions in these companies. The results indicate a strong relationship between the two concepts (R2 = 0.91), suggesting that the green economy may be an important factor in promoting social and environmental commitment within these organizations. In conclusion, the green economy represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen CSR in MSMEs, providing economic, social, and environmental benefits, although it also entails challenges related to resources, knowledge, and organizational adaptation. This integration could be crucial for sustainable development at both the local and national levels. Full article

This study explores how the leadership of Chilean state universities integrates sustainability into their strategic decision-making processes. Employing a qualitative research approach using semi-structured interviews conducted across nine institutions, it analyzes the perspectives of rectors (equivalent to university presidents in Chilean higher education), vice-rectors, and members of university governing bodies. The findings reveal that although sustainability is present in institutional discourse, its actual implementation remains limited, fragmented, and subordinated to financial imperatives. Contextual constraints, adaptive rationalities, and limited stakeholder engagement shape strategic decisions. Furthermore, institutions often employ sustainability as a rhetorical or compliance-driven narrative rather than as a transformative governance principle. This study frames these findings through stakeholder theory, organizational sustainability, strategic rationality, and information governance. It concludes that embedding sustainability meaningfully in university governance requires institutional transformation—moving beyond symbolic commitments towards inclusive, evidence-driven, and participatory decision-making practices. Over the past two decades, patient safety and clinical risk management have become strategic priorities for healthcare systems worldwide. In this context, the London Protocol has emerged as one of the most influential methodologies for investigating adverse events through a systemic, non-punitive lens. The 2024 edition, curated by Vincent, Adams, Bellandi, and colleagues, represents a significant evolution of the original 2004 framework. It integrates recent advancements in safety science, human factors, and digital health, while placing a stronger emphasis on resilience, proactive learning, and stakeholder engagement. This article critically examines the structure, key principles, and innovations of the London Protocol 2024, highlighting its departure from incident-centered analysis toward a broader understanding of both failures and successes. The protocol encourages fewer but more in-depth investigations, producing actionable and sustainable recommendations rather than generic reports. It also underscores the importance of involving patients and families as active partners in safety processes, recognizing their unique perspectives on communication, care pathways, and system failures. Beyond its strengths—holistic analysis, multidisciplinary collaboration, and cultural openness—the systemic approach presents challenges, including methodological complexity, resource requirements, and cultural resistance in blame-oriented environments. This paper discusses these limitations and explores how leadership, staff engagement, and digital technologies (including artificial intelligence) can help overcome them. Ultimately, the London Protocol 2024 emerges not only as a methodological tool but as a catalyst for cultural transformation, fostering healthcare systems that are safer, more resilient, and committed to continuous learning. Digital transformation (DT) requires organizations to navigate complex technological and organizational changes, often under conditions of uncertainty. While agile methodologies are widely adopted to address the iterative and cross-functional nature of DT, limited attention has been paid to identifying critical success factors (CSFs) from a socio-technical systems (STS) perspective. This study addresses that gap by integrating and prioritizing CSFs as interdependent elements within a layered socio-technical framework. Drawing on a systematic review of 17 empirical and conceptual studies, we adapt Chow and Cao’s agile success model and validate a set of 14 CSFs across five domains—organizational, people, process, technical, and project—through a Delphi-informed Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The findings reveal that organizational and people-related enablers, particularly management commitment, team capability, and organizational environment, carry the greatest weight in agile-based DT contexts. These results inform a three-layered framework—comprising organizational readiness, agile delivery, and project artefacts—which reflects how social, technical, and procedural factors interact systemically. The study contributes both theoretically, by operationalizing STS theory in the agile DT domain, and practically, by providing a prioritized CSF model to guide strategic planning and resource allocation in transformation initiatives. Biosphere Reserves (BRs), designated by UNESCO, are uniquely positioned to serve as model territories for sustainable development, as they aim to harmonize biodiversity conservation with the socio-economic vitality and cultural identity of local communities. This work examines the commitment of the Spanish Network of Biosphere Reserves to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using a survey-based research design, this study assesses the extent to which the reserves have integrated the SDGs into their strategic frameworks and operational practices. It also identifies and analyses successful initiatives and best practices implemented across Spain that exemplify this integration. The findings highlight the need for enhanced awareness and understanding of the 2030 Agenda among stakeholders, alongside stronger mechanisms for participation, cooperation, and governance. The conclusion emphasises the importance of equipping all reserves with strategic planning tools and robust systems for monitoring, evaluation, and accountability. Moreover, the analysis of exemplary cases reveals the transformative potential of sustainability-oriented projects—not only in advancing environmental goals but also in revitalizing local economies and reinforcing cultural heritage. These insights contribute to a broader understanding of how BRs can act as dynamic laboratories for sustainable development and heritage preservation. Full article

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and blockchain technologies within the digital economy presents transformative opportunities for promoting low-carbon urban development. However, a systematic understanding of how these digital innovations influence urban carbon mitigation remains limited. This study addresses this gap by proposing two research questions (RQs): (1) What are the key success factors for artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain in urban carbon emission reduction? (2) How do these technologies interact and support the transition to low-carbon cities? To answer these questions, the study employs a hybrid methodological framework combining the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and interpretive structural modeling (ISM) techniques. The data were collected through structured expert questionnaires, enabling the identification and hierarchical analysis of twelve critical success factors (CSFs). Grounded in sustainability transitions theory and institutional theory, the CSFs are categorized into three dimensions: (1) digital infrastructure and technological applications; (2) digital transformation of industry and economy; (3) sustainable urban governance. The results reveal that e-commerce and sustainable logistics, the adoption of the circular economy, and cross-sector collaboration are the most influential drivers of digital-enabled decarbonization, while foundational elements such as smart energy systems and digital infrastructure act as key enablers. The DEMATEL-ISM approach facilitates a system-level understanding of the causal relationships and strategic priorities among the CSFs, offering actionable insights for urban planners, policymakers, and stakeholders committed to sustainable digital transformation and carbon neutrality. As the global energy transition accelerates, the integration of solar power and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies offers new pathways for sustainable local development. This study examines four Serbian municipalities—Šabac, Sombor, Pirot, and Čačak—to assess how AI-enabled solar power systems can enhance energy resilience, reduce emissions, and support community-level sustainability goals. Using a mixed-method approach combining spatial analysis, predictive modeling, and stakeholder interviews, this research study evaluates the performance and institutional readiness of local governments in terms of implementing intelligent solar infrastructure. Key AI applications included solar potential mapping, demand-side management, and predictive maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Quantitative results show an improvement >60% in forecasting accuracy, a 64% reduction in system downtime, and a 9.7% increase in energy cost savings. These technical gains were accompanied by positive trends in SDG-aligned indicators, such as improved electricity access and local job creation in the green economy. Despite challenges related to data infrastructure, regulatory gaps, and limited AI literacy, this study finds that institutional coordination and leadership commitment are decisive for successful implementation. The proposed AI–Solar Integration for Local Sustainability (AISILS) framework offers a replicable model for emerging economies. Policy recommendations include investing in foundational digital infrastructure, promoting low-code AI platforms, and aligning AI–solar projects with SDG targets to attract EU and national funding. This study contributes new empirical evidence on the digital–renewable energy nexus in Southeast Europe and underscores the strategic role of AI in accelerating inclusive, data-driven energy transitions at the municipal level. In order to fulfill the commitment to the “dual carbon goal” at an early date, China has implemented a series of carbon control policies. However, the actual impact of these policy combinations on green innovation in Chinese cities remains unknown. Taking the implementation of the low-carbon pilot policy (LCP) and the carbon emission trading pilot policy (CET) as the research opportunity, this paper uses panel data from 276 prefecture-level cities and a multiple-period difference-in-differences (DID) model to explore the impact of carbon control policy combination on green innovation in China and their mechanisms. The results indicate the following: A single LCP or CET can significantly boost green innovation. However, the impact of cross-tool carbon control policy combination on green innovation is notably greater than that of a single policy, with a trend of increasing effectiveness over time. Even after a series of robustness tests, this conclusion remains valid. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotion effect is more significant in the eastern region and high-level administrative cities. The policy combination incentivizes green innovation through fiscal technology expenditure and public environmental awareness, focusing more on fostering strategic green innovation. Consequently, the Chinese government should tailor policy combinations to specific contexts, expand their implementation judiciously, and consistently drive forward green innovation. Full article

This study explores sustainable rural tourism entrepreneurship within the Urlaub am Bauernhof (UaB) cooperative network in Austria, offering an integrated model that unites financial, social, environmental, institutional, and marketing dimensions. Employing exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) on data from 393 farm-based accommodation stakeholders, this research identifies sustainable entrepreneurship as comprising six interconnected dimensions: Economic Resilience and Diversification, Sociocultural Integration, Environmental and Regional Commitment, Market Visibility and Strategic Communication, Quality Assurance and Institutional Support, and Perceived Value and Branding. This multidimensional and hierarchically structured framework reflects the complex yet coherent nature of sustainability-driven entrepreneurship in cooperative tourism networks. The findings confirm the multidimensional nature of sustainable entrepreneurship and support the hypothesized structural relationships. The UaB network is presented as a transferable model that demonstrates how cooperative frameworks can enhance sustainability, regional identity, and rural revitalization, offering valuable insights and practical guidance for rural regions in the Western Balkans, where economic challenges, depopulation, and underdeveloped tourism infrastructure prevail. By illustrating a successful cooperative approach rooted in sustainability and regional identity, this study contributes to policy-making aimed at fostering resilient, culturally rich, and environmentally responsible rural tourism entrepreneurship in transitioning contexts. This article explores the role of the European Union (EU) as a normative gender actor promoting women’s participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) within the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region. In a context marked by global inequality and overlapping international efforts, this paper assesses the extent to which EU-driven Europeanisation influences national gender policies in non-EU states. Using a postfunctionalist lens, this research draws on a qualitative analysis of EU-funded programmes, strategic documents, and a detailed case study encompassing Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. This study highlights both the opportunities created by EU initiatives such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and regional programmes like EU4Digital and the challenges presented by political resistance, institutional inertia, and socio-cultural norms. The findings reveal that although EU interventions have fostered significant progress, structural barriers and limited national commitment hinder the long-term sustainability of gender equality in STEM. Moreover, the withdrawal of other global actors increases pressure on the EU to maintain leadership in this area. This paper concludes that without stronger national alignment and global cooperation, EU gender policies risk becoming symbolic rather than transformative. Full article

Since 2015 and the Paris Agreements, several countries have committed to sustainable development (SD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have an important role to play in providing education and supporting research activities that integrate SD and SDG concepts. However, the context where the HEI is located has an impact on the level of development and integration of strategic guidelines, methods, and tools for measuring the performance of SDGs within the HEI. The United Nations framework remains the most developed and used tool, but it stays very global and needs to be adapted to other contexts, which leads to local initiatives by some HEIs in developing their tools. The response of HEIs to this challenge differs from one context to another, and this article aims to (i) provide a framework to analyze the different HEI contexts based on their own global, national, and local context; (ii) present and compare the context analysis of three different HEIs (ULaval, Sorbonne Univ, and UWE) in three different countries worldwide (Canada, France, and England), and (iii) discuss the limits, challenges, and research opportunities in the subject of SDG integration within HEIs. Notably, the context analysis of ULaval and UWE case studies showed that the Canadian and UK scales give global orientations with a delegation to the Quebec Province and England government for the education and research strategies. A strong leadership comes from the HEIs themselves in developing their own methods and tools for assessing and monitoring the SDGs, as is the case with ULaval and UWE. On the other hand, the Sorbonne Univ case follows the French national and European-United Nation framework but is less committed to developing its own tools and methods. Full article

Innovative behavior is essential for maintaining an organization’s competitive edge. This study aimed to investigate the impact of job crafting on innovative behavior, focusing on the mediating role of organizational commitment and the moderating effect of psychological ownership. It also explored how the moderating effect of psychological ownership varied between artificial intelligence (AI) and non-AI departments. Data were collected from 457 employees in China’s Internet industry. The results reveal that organizational commitment mediates the relationship between job crafting and innovative behavior. Furthermore, psychological ownership significantly moderates this relationship, with notable differences between AI and non-AI departments. Notably, the mediating role of organizational commitment in the connection between job crafting and innovative behavior is influenced by psychological ownership. These findings underscore the key roles of job crafting, organizational commitment, and psychological ownership in fostering innovative behavior and supporting organizational growth. They also highlight the importance of strategically managing psychological ownership across different departmental contexts to enhance organizational commitment and promote employee innovation. As environmental sustainability becomes a central strategic priority in the hospitality industry, understanding the mechanisms that enhance employees’ green behavior is increasingly essential. This study investigates the influence of Green Transformational Leadership (GTL) on employees’ green resilience (GR), exploring the sequential mediating roles of employee environmental commitment (ECOM), environmental engagement (EENG), and Green High-Performance Work Practices (GHPWPs). Drawing on data from 475 full-time employees working in green-certified hotels in Izmir, Türkiye, the proposed model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that GTL significantly enhances employees’ green resilience, both directly and indirectly, through its positive impact on their environmental attitudes and the implementation of green-oriented work practices. This research contributes to leadership and sustainability research by integrating affective, cognitive, and behavioral pathways. It offers practical insights for hotel managers aiming to build a resilient and environmentally engaged workforce. Full article

Background: Emerging economies face a strategic imperative to transform their supply chains, aiming for economic resilience, environmental responsibility, and social inclusivity. Methods: This study, employing the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method, identified and prioritized key drivers for this sustainable transformation. Results: Expert input from supply chain professionals in various industrial sectors revealed five critical factors: top management commitment, stakeholder engagement, regulatory alignment, technological capability, and internal integration. Notably, technological capability and internal integration emerged as the most influential causal drivers, acting as crucial enablers for deeper, systemic change. These findings offer actionable insights for decision-makers in designing more effective transition strategies for logistics and supply chain systems, especially amidst rapid industrialization and escalating sustainability pressures. Conclusions: This research significantly contributes to the growing literature on strategic supply chain redesign, providing practical guidance for firms navigating sustainability transitions within complex, resource-constrained environments. This study addresses critical Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) research gaps in Asia by developing a validated and holistic framework tailored to Taiwanese listed companies. Integrating the Resource-Based View (RBV), Institutional Theory, and Stakeholder Theory, the framework encompasses five key dimensions relevant to ESG commitment: Corporate Governance, Regulatory Pressure, Stakeholder Influence, Financial Performance, and ESG Implementation. This study adopts a two-round Delphi method involving 15 cross-sector ESG experts and uses a 7-point Likert scale questionnaire to validate 40 ESG sub-indicators. The research offers significant theoretical and practical contributions. Academically, it integrates multiple theoretical perspectives, providing a more comprehensive and enriched understanding of the key drivers influencing ESG commitment. It offers robust empirical validation within the specific Taiwanese context, thereby contributing to the body of knowledge in ESG research. Practically, it provides structured guidance for enhancing ESG readiness, empowering companies to implement more effective and impactful ESG strategies, and offers a practical tool for improving ESG performance.
