The swift advancements in autonomous vehicle systems have facilitated their implementation across various industries, including agriculture. However, studies primarily focus on passenger vehicles, with fewer examining autonomous trucks. Therefore, this study reviews autonomous truck systems implementation in North Dakota’s agricultural industry to develop comprehensive technology readiness frameworks and strategic deployment approaches. The review integrates systematic literature review and event history analysis of 52 studies, categorized using Social–Ecological–Technological Systems framework across six dimensions: technological, economic, social change, legal, environmental, and implementation challenges. The Technology Readiness Level (TRL) analysis reveals 39.5% of technologies achieving commercial readiness (TRL 8–9), including GPS/RTK positioning and V2V communication demonstrated through Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative deployments, while gaps exist in TRL 4–6 technologies, particularly cold-weather operations. Nonetheless, challenges remain, including legislative fragmentation, inadequate rural infrastructure, and barriers to public acceptance. The study provides evidence-based recommendations that support a strategic three-phase deployment approach for the adoption of autonomous trucks in agriculture. Full article

This study evaluates the impact of digital systems and IT audit frameworks on tax performance and integrity within tax administrations. Using international data from organizations like the World Bank, OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), and IMF (International Monetary Fund), the research examines the relationship between tax revenue as a percentage of GDP, digital infrastructure, corruption perception, e-government development, and cybersecurity readiness. Quantitative analysis, including correlation, regression, and clustering methods, reveals a strong positive relationship between digital maturity, e-governance, and tax performance. Countries with advanced digital governance systems and robust IT audit frameworks, such as COBIT, tend to show higher tax revenues and lower corruption levels. The study finds that e-government development and anti-corruption measures explain over 40% of the variance in tax performance. Cluster analysis distinguishes between digitally advanced, high-compliance countries and those lagging in IT adoption. The findings suggest that digital transformation strengthens fiscal integrity by automating compliance and reducing human contact, which in turn mitigates bribery risks and enhances fraud detection. The study highlights the need for adopting international best practices to guide the digitalization of tax administrations, improving efficiency, transparency, and trust in public finance. Designed to complement existing treaties such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards, Q-NPT integrates principles of equity, transparency, and trust to address persistent governance challenges. The framework emphasizes sustainable nuclear technology access, multilateral cooperation, and integration with global energy transition goals. Through an analysis of institutional, economic, technological, and geopolitical barriers, the study outlines actionable pathways for adoption, including legal harmonization, differentiated financial instruments, and deployment of advanced verification technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and remote monitoring. A phased implementation timeline is presented, enabling adaptive learning and stakeholder engagement over short-, medium-, and long-term horizons. Regional case studies, including Serbia and Latin America, demonstrate the framework’s applicability in diverse contexts. By linking nuclear policy to broader climate, energy equity, and global security objectives, Q-NPT offers an operational and inclusive roadmap for future-ready governance. The H5N1 avian influenza virus continues to evolve into genetically diverse and highly pathogenic clades with increased potential for cross-species transmission. Recent scientific advances have included the development of next-generation vaccine platforms, promising antiviral compounds, and more sensitive diagnostic tools, alongside strengthened surveillance systems in both animals and humans. However, persistent structural challenges hinder global readiness. Vaccine production is heavily concentrated in high-income countries, limiting equitable access during potential pandemics. Economic and logistical barriers complicate the implementation of control strategies such as vaccination, culling, and compensation schemes. Gaps in international coordination, public communication, and standardization of protocols further exacerbate vulnerabilities. Although sustained human-to-human transmission has not been documented, the severity of confirmed infections and the rapid global spread among wildlife and domestic animals underscore the urgent need for robust preparedness. International organizations have called for comprehensive pandemic response plans, enhanced multisectoral collaboration, and investment in targeted research. Priorities include expanding surveillance to asymptomatic animal hosts, evaluating viral shedding and transmission routes, and developing strain-specific and universal vaccines. Strengthening global cooperation and public health infrastructure will be critical to mitigate the growing threat of H5N1 and reduce the risk of a future influenza pandemic. Full article

This study critically reflects on Myanmar’s readiness and potential to transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) amidst escalating climate pressures, energy insecurity, and regional technological shifts. It aims to advocate a systemic and inclusive EV strategy rooted in environmental, economic, and governance imperatives. Drawing on an extensive review of scholarly literature, policy documents, and regional best practices, this study synthesizes evidence to frame a normative argument for accelerating the adoption of EVs in Myanmar. It combines the environmental, infrastructural, and political–economic perspectives to support its position. Myanmar’s EV transition is not merely a technological leap, but a structural transformation intertwined with energy equity, public health, and geopolitical positioning. While significant barriers, such as grid unreliability, policy inconsistency, and socioeconomic disparities, persist, coordinated national efforts and regional cooperation can unlock transformative opportunities. Policy clarity, grid modernization, public engagement, and international partnerships are essential enablers. This study offers a timely and region-specific perspective on the EV debate, highlighting Myanmar’s unique vulnerabilities and latent advantages. It presents a value-based call for inclusive, future-oriented policymaking that aligns Myanmar’s mobility system with its sustainability and development goals. Full article

International markets are placing increasing importance on sustainability benchmarks that encompass not only environmental but also social and economic dimensions. This study investigates whether cooperative wineries, particularly those composed of small-scale producers, can meet these growing demands. Sixteen winegrowers from a cooperative winery in the Douro region of Portugal were surveyed using indicators aligned with the National Sustainability Certification Benchmark for the Wine Sector (RNCSSV). The survey captured practices from the 2022/2023 season to assess readiness for certification and examine viticultural practices affecting sustainability. Results highlight structural challenges: 57% of respondents operate as family-run businesses, often with informal organizational practices—only one-third of which met the 50% certification threshold. Nevertheless, there is evidence of a transition toward sustainable viticulture. Many producers reported soil cover practices and reduced herbicide use (19% no longer apply them), with positive implications for soil conservation and yield stability, particularly where water is available. Despite constraints in data detail, particularly regarding pesticide use and field practices, the study provides a solid empirical basis for targeted sustainability efforts. These findings may support the development of simplified tools and tailored strategies to foster sustainability transitions in cooperative winegrowing contexts. Full article

The paper categorizes major simulation projects—including Biosphere 2, Yuegong 1 (Lunar Palace 1), SAM, MaMBA, and CHAPEA—and analyzes their contributions to habitat design, psychological resilience, and environmental control. Technological domains such as in situ resource utilization (ISRU), habitat automation, and extraterrestrial health care are evaluated with respect to current limitations and future scalability. This paper explores the relationship between digital readiness and sustainable development in European Union (EU) countries through a two-level cluster analysis based on the 2024 Network Readiness Index (NRI) and selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The first analysis groups countries by digital maturity across the NRI pillars: Technology, People, Governance, and Impact. The second focuses on SDG performance in areas such as health, education, gender equality, clean energy, and sustainable cities. Results reveal significant disparities between digital readiness and SDG achievements: some digitally advanced countries underperform in sustainability, while others with lower digital scores excel in SDG outcomes. The study identifies regional patterns, confirms a moderate positive correlation between NRI and SDG clusters (rs = 0.526), and underscores the need for integrated digital and sustainability policies. Recommendations are provided for targeted policymaking and international cooperation. Full article

The circular economy has emerged as a pivotal strategy for cities to reconcile economic growth with environmental sustainability. However, its implementation in resource-dependent Gulf Cooperation Council contexts remains underexplored. This study is among the first to empirically assess circular economy readiness in a Gulf Cooperation Council industrial hub through a mixed-method approach, bridging the gap between expert perceptions and localized policy implementation. Focusing on the Dammam Metropolitan Area, Saudi Arabia, a critical industrial anchor for Saudi Vision 2030, this study combines a cross-sectional survey of 230 policymakers, industry leaders, and academics with descriptive/inferential statistics (SPSS) and qualitative thematic coding (NVivo). The findings identify renewable energy (mean = 4.10) and municipal waste management (mean = 3.78) as top sectoral priorities, aligning with national sustainability goals. Yet systemic challenges, including fragmented governance, limited public awareness (mean = 3.65), and funding gaps (mean = 3.52), underscore disparities between Vision 2030’s ambitions and localized capacities. Statistical analyses reveal strong associations between institutional fragmentation and financial inefficiencies (χ2 = 23.45, * p = 0.010), while mid-career workforce dominance (54.8%) and underrepresentation of policymakers (6.5%) highlight governance gaps. The current study advocates hybrid strategies: stricter waste regulations (40.0% stakeholder priority), circular economy training programs, and public–private partnerships to scale waste-to-energy infrastructure and industrial symbiosis. Despite pragmatic optimism (48.7% foresee 21–40% recycling by 2030), limitations such as reliance on expert perspectives and exclusion of citizen voices necessitate future interdisciplinary and longitudinal research. By aligning regulatory rigor with inclusive governance, the Dammam Metropolitan Area can model a Gulf-centric circular economy transition, advancing regional sustainability while contributing actionable insights for resource-dependent economies globally. Providing food security has traditionally been an important motive for development cooperation. At the same time, agriculture also has a major impact on the environment, which in turn threatens food production itself. This article argues that the tension between food production and global environmental change is largely caused by a modern dualism that pits man and nature, donor and recipient, and modernity and tradition against each other. It explores whether stewardship can help Christian NGOs find a way forward. Stewardship is closely linked to a Christian view of the relationship between man and earth and the relationship of people to each other. However, it is not uncontroversial. Therefore, a reinterpretation of the concept is needed. Finally, three principles are discussed that derive from a renewed vision of stewardship and can provide strategic direction: working together with nature, empowering local communities and adaptive transformation. Stewardship does not offer ready-made solutions, but that is precisely its strength. It appeals to practical wisdom. Every context is different and requires its own balance of values and interests. BRICS countries, which cause 43.2 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, are crucial in the world’s effort toward environmental sustainability. BRICS countries are among the world’s largest maritime traders and account for a good share of carbon emissions through shipping and the degradation of marine ecosystems. This research provides a novel contribution by examining the combined effect of energy intensity, innovation, blue economy activities and renewable energy on environmental sustainability for the period between 1990 and 2022 for BRICS nations under the shadow of ESG—economic, social and governance readiness. The key variables are energy intensity, renewable energy usage, innovation, blue economy and ESG readiness, with a critical focus on the environmental consequences. By applying Driscoll and Kraay’s robust adopting-type approach and panel quantile estimation, the findings indicate that adopting renewable energy and increased innovation significantly lowers GHG emissions across BRICS economies. The study further establishes that international ocean trade and fishing activities contribute to the deterioration of the environment through the overexploitation of resources and emissions resulting from shipping activities, with the consideration of these as the backbone of the blue economy. However, social and positive influences on sustainable practice in the BRICS region, as reflected through policy frameworks, economic development, and technical cooperation among members, positively influence the adoption of sustainable practices, thereby driving progress toward environmental goals. This study underlines the importance of continued technical cooperation among BRICS countries, with a commitment to sustainable innovation and a transition to renewable energy as essential strategies to reduce environmental degradation and enhance long-term sustainability. This paper investigates how the present paths support massive manufacturing by evaluating the existing state of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technologies, examining technology readiness levels (TRL), fuel readiness levels (FRL), costs, economic conditions, emissions, etc. This assessment summarizes major conclusions about bio-jet replacements for conventional jet fuels. In order for SAF to play a sustainable role, a full life cycle emissions assessment, techno-economic analysis (TEA), and discussions about the sustainability of SAF materials are required. The life cycle assessment (LCA) discusses the capability of SAF in cutting down emissions, TEA argues for its economic viability, and the sustainable supply of SAF feedstock is a third critical factor determining the sustainability of the industry. With all the analyses, this overview provides recommendations for the sustainable development of the SAF industry and calls on industry stakeholders to enhance cooperation. Full article

Entrepreneurial endeavors are essential for stimulating economic growth and rendering them is a primary concern for policymakers. In recent years, smart city ecosystems have garnered attention for enhancing urban living and tackling contemporary difficulties. The contribution of smart cities in promoting entrepreneurship and improving well-being has received little attention. This study aims at examining the potential of smart city as an ecosystem to promote entrepreneurship and enhance well-being and quality of life (QoL). This study uses a Fuzzy evaluation model and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate essential determinants of smart cities and their significance. Data from sources such as the Smart City Index, Ease of Doing Business Ranking, Global Innovation Index, Sustainable Development Report, and Technological Readiness Ranking are utilized with normalization, guaranteeing a dependable evaluation. The findings underscore the significance of open data efforts and transparent governance in recruiting innovative enterprises and promoting entrepreneurship. The study highlights the necessity of cooperative urban planning and public participation in decision-making. Moreover, the authors propose a new definition of smart cities from citizens’ well-being perspective. This research enhances the comprehension of smart cities’ influence on entrepreneurial endeavors, pinpointing problems and prospects for future investigations focused on improving well-being through smart city advancement. Based on the perspective of “three rural areas”, this study constructs a rural e-commerce development capability measurement system centered on readiness, utilization, and influence. It adopts a panel vector autoregressive model to identify key influencing factors. Through the exploratory spatiotemporal data analysis (ESTDA) method, the spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics of rural e-commerce development capacity and the interaction relationship between provinces and regions are revealed. The study shows that (1) China’s rural e-commerce development capacity gained significant improvement from 2011 to 2022, but provincial polarization is evident, with eastern and central provinces leading and western and marginal provinces lagging; the rural e-commerce development capacity shows a decreasing dynamic pattern from the east to the central and western to the northeastern regions. (2) The eastern region has active rural e-commerce development, stable spatial structure, and provincial solid correlation, which creates a significant linkage effect. The western region shows strong internal spatial dependence, the district cross-regional interaction and linkage effect are beginning to emerge, and the northeastern low-development provinces are challenging to leap to a higher level in the short term; (3) the spatiotemporal interaction network of rural e-commerce development among several provinces and regions shows a positive synergistic relationship, and it is an essential consideration for the high-quality development of rural e-commerce to strengthen regional cooperation and realize complementary advantages. The study results provide a theoretical basis for formulating differentiated regional e-commerce development policies, which can help enhance regional synergy and narrow the regional development gap. The aim of this research was to investigate the social conditions of the implementation of energy cooperatives in Poland as a demand-side policy tool to reduce carbon emissions. Qualitative empirical research was conducted, including interviews with members and leaders of energy cooperatives as well as experts, to assess the effectiveness of new legal regulations concerning energy cooperatives. This study shows that the negative historic connotations with cooperatives do not impede the readiness of Poles to create energy cooperatives. They are open to innovation and are willing to cooperate for energy stability, which seems to be the most important factor determining involvement in energy cooperatives. The results also highlight significant barriers for the development of energy cooperatives, such as regulatory constraints and a lack of true incentives. Energy cooperatives have the potential to popularize renewable energy sources in Poland, but their growth requires better adaptation of legal regulations and greater political support. Full article
