The surface mechanical behavior of metallic bionic foot exerts a decisive influence on their service life. A face-to-face friction test system was employed to simulate the surface tribological behavior of bionic foot during actuation. Cellulose coatings were in situ formed on the contact surfaces of three types of bionic foot to replicate practical operating conditions, followed by tribological testing and characterization analysis. This study investigated the effect of cellulose coating in retarding the wear of the three bionic feet and elucidated their surface lubrication properties. The results demonstrate that surface deformation of the bionic foot is primarily concentrated at the toe tips, as well as the edges and corners of the feet. Tribological test results indicate that after modification with cellulose coatings, the friction coefficient first decreases and then increases with increasing load; when the load reaches 20 N, the friction coefficient of the bionic foot surface drops to as low as 0.043, and the wear scar depth also reaches its minimum value. The underlying mechanism lies in the fact that friction-induced effects promote the formation of adsorbed tribofilms of cellulose on the surface of the bionic foot. These tribofilms effectively isolate the direct contact between the upper and lower friction pairs, thereby enhancing lubrication efficiency while significantly mitigating adhesive wear and abrasive wear. This study establishes mechanical models of the bionic foot to provide experimental validation and design guidelines aimed at enhancing its service life. Full article

As an integrated educational model that combines inquiry-based learning with travel experiences, study travel plays a significant role in fostering students’ social responsibility, innovative spirit, and practical abilities, and has attracted growing attention worldwide. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, this study conducts a systematic review of the literature published between 1950 and 2025. It identifies six major themes corresponding to the three stages of study travel. Through bibliometric analysis, the research delineates publication trends, core journal distributions, and keyword co-occurrence networks in the field. The findings indicate that experiential learning, constructivism, and transformative learning theory constitute the dominant theoretical foundations in current scholarship. Moreover, a notable “learning–travel imbalance” is observed, whereby educational processes and learning outcomes receive substantially more scholarly attention than travel attributes, industry logic, and managerial dimensions. This paper offers a systematic mapping of the knowledge terrain and theoretical architecture in international study travel research, clarifies existing gaps, and suggests directions for future interdisciplinary integration and for deeper synthesis of “learning” and “travel” in both research and practice. Background: Coeliac disease (CD) is a highly heritable autoimmune disease. Given the high risk among first-degree relatives, early screening and prevention are essential, yet clinical guidelines vary. This review analyzed clinical practice guidelines issued by leading European, British, and North American organisations over a 12-year period (2014–2026) regarding genetic screening and lifestyle/dietary prevention strategies. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across official databases of prominent societies (ESSCD, UEG, ESPEN, NASPGHAN, AGA, ESPGHAN, WGO, BSG, ACG) for English-language guidelines and position papers. Extracted statements addressing genetic testing (HLA-DQ2/DQ8) and early-life risk-modifying strategies were coded into three thematic domains: (1) genetic predisposition, (2) lifestyle prevention or (3) both. Results: Eleven manuscripts yielded 399 statements, categorized into genetic predisposition (n = 23, 5.8%), lifestyle prevention (n = 30, 7.5%) and integrated approaches (n = 2, 0.5%), with the remainder (n = 344, 86.2%) addressing unrelated clinical topics. Universal consensus confirmed the high negative predictive value of HLA-DQ2/DQ8 testing to rule out CD, whereas dietary strategies (breastfeeding duration and timing of gluten introduction) showed no protective effect. ESPGHAN exclusively provided evidence regarding early-life high-risk genotypes and concluded that risk-stratified dietary guidance based on specific HLA profiles remains currently unsupported. Conclusions: Current CD guidelines demonstrate substantial international consensus regarding the role of genetic testing in disease exclusion and risk stratification. However, recommendations integrating genetic susceptibility with preventive lifestyle interventions remain scarce. Future research should focus on generating robust evidence to support precision prevention approaches and facilitate the harmonization of international guidelines. Full article

Yb3+-containing glasses and glass-ceramics are attractive photonic materials because Yb3+ can act simultaneously as a near-infrared absorber, an energy-transfer sensitizer, a luminescent center, and a composition-dependent modifier of glass structure and crystallization. This brief review focuses on crystallization from parent glasses to glass-ceramics and examines glass-network chemistry, local Yb3+ coordination, phase separation, viscosity, heating rate, treatment temperature, holding time control nucleation, crystal growth, phase selection, rare-earth partitioning, transparency, and optical performance. Representative oxyfluoride, phosphate, oxyapatite, borosilicate, and aluminosilicate systems are compared using thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, and optical spectroscopy. The available data show that Yb2O3 or YbF3 does not have a universal effect on crystallization: low concentrations can promote fluoride-rich clustering or lower the apparent crystallization barrier, whereas higher concentrations can increase packing density, stabilize the residual glass, change the competitive phase assemblage, or suppress crystallization. Crystallization-enhanced luminescence is most consistently obtained when Yb3+ and the activator partition into low-phonon-energy nanocrystals while crystal size and refractive-index mismatch remain sufficiently small to preserve transparency. This review also identifies major reporting gaps, including limited quantification of crystalline fraction, partition coefficients, luminescence lifetime, quantum efficiency, and long-term thermal stability. Practical design guidelines and unresolved questions are proposed to support the rational development of transparent Yb3+-containing glass-ceramics for lasers, sensing, optical amplification, and related photonic applications. Due to advantages such as larger heat transfer area, higher heat transfer efficiency, and greater thermal expansion stress, helical coiled tubes (HCTs) have been widely adopted in heat exchangers in industry, especially for nuclear power plants. The nucleate boiling heat transfer characteristics within an HCT are investigated using a multi-phase CFD boiling framework implemented and evaluated in this study. Based on the requirement of BPG (Best Practice Guideline) for the CFD applied in the nuclear safety analysis, mesh-independent calculations are performed, including of the heat transfer coefficient and wall temperature along the HCT and the void fraction and secondary flow on the cross-section of the HCT. The effects of various bubble dynamic correlations in the boiling model on the predicted results are also considered. Several previous experiments are adopted to assess the present boiling models, showing the feasibility of the present boiling CFD methodology in predicting the average nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficient along the HCT. Compared with the predicted results from the various heat transfer correlations in the subcooled and saturated nucleate boiling regions, this CFD boiling model can assess these correlations applied in HCT as well as assist in the safety analysis of system codes in selecting the appropriate boiling heat transfer correlations. Background: Gut microbiota plays a key role in the aging process, with age-related microbial shifts contributing to chronic inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, frailty, and cognitive decline. Despite growing interest, an integrated synthesis of how diet and lifestyle modifications influence gut microbiota remains limited. This overview of reviews summarizes the current evidence on how dietary and lifestyle interventions shape microbial composition and affect aging outcomes. Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, we searched PubMed and Scopus for English-language reviews (January 2023–October 2025) including human adults aged ≥ 18 years, evaluating dietary or lifestyle interventions, and reporting gut microbiota with healthy-aging outcomes. Quality of the reviews was appraised using the SANRA tool. Results: Mediterranean and plant-based diets, calorie restriction, and microbiota-targeted approaches such as probiotics, prebiotics, symbiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation were associated with increases in short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria, including Faecalibacterium, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Akkermansia muciniphila, while reducing pro-inflammatory taxa. These changes were linked to improved metabolic and immune function, reduced inflammaging, lower frailty, and greater physical resilience. Cognitive benefits included decreased neuroinflammation and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Conclusions: Maintaining microbial balance through targeted dietary strategies may support healthier, more resilient aging, offering practical insights for public health and clinical nutrition planning. While intercultural and interfaith dialogue in education is often framed in terms of tolerance, mutual understanding, active listening, and coexistence, these approaches often remain pedagogically underdeveloped. They do not sufficiently address the interpretive processes through which individuals negotiate meaning across cultural and religious differences. This article explores Ta’wil (تأويل) as a pedagogical hermeneutic for intercultural and interfaith dialogue. Rooted in Arabic Islamic intellectual traditions, Ta’wil is reconceptualized not merely as a method of textual interpretation but as a hermeneutics of return that seeks to recover the underlying purpose, first principle, or Ḥaqiqa that gives coherence to meaning. Through conceptual analysis, the study traces the etymological, philosophical, and Qur’anic foundations of Ta’wil. It draws on classical Muslim scholars, including Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd, as well as the Qur’anic narrative of Moses and Al-Khiḍr. It argues that Ta’wil functions as a dialogical practice that moves beyond literalism by negotiating ambiguity and reconciling competing perspectives. How can Ta’wil be reconceptualized as a pedagogical hermeneutic for intercultural and interfaith dialogue in higher education? The article further situates Ta’wil within broader intercultural and interfaith conversations by identifying its resonance with parallel philosophical and theological traditions concerned with first principles, teleology, and the pursuit of truth. The paper advances a pedagogical model that operationalizes Ta’wil for higher education through three epistemological anchors: textual evidence, contextual teleological coherence, and intended meaning. The article proposes a pedagogical model with learning outcomes, implementation guidelines, and an assessment rubric. It concludes that Ta’wil contributes to a culturally responsible pedagogy through which educational encounters can move from the narrow paths of tension and misunderstanding toward the open terrains of deliberation, negotiated meaning, and deeper forms of understanding. (1) Background: Wine quality is not a neutral category, but a historically situated construct shaped by classification systems, sensory conventions, varietal prestige, territorial recognition, and market legitimacy. These frameworks have been central to modern wine culture, yet their influence may limit the visibility of local and community-based knowledge systems across historically marginalized viticultural regions. (2) Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines and using the SPICE framework to define the research question. Records from academic databases and complementary sources were screened through predefined criteria and synthesized using thematic analysis. (3) Results: The review shows that colonial and postcolonial histories have influenced the recognition of wine regions, grape varieties, viticultural practices, vineyard landscapes, and quality criteria. Local knowledge, ancestral practices, old vines, heritage grape varieties, and cultural heritage emerge as relevant dimensions of wine value. The reviewed studies suggest that broadening current approaches to wine quality requires greater recognition of cultural, historical, territorial, and locally rooted forms of knowledge. (4) Conclusions: Decolonizing viticulture provides an analytical framework for broadening wine quality beyond established sensory, varietal, and market criteria, while integrating cultural, territorial, and ecological dimensions with scientific and technical knowledge. Background/Objectives: Timely identification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is essential for access to early intervention; however, diagnostic delay remains a persistent challenge. Methods: This scoping review synthesized evidence from eight studies (>24,000 participants), most conducted in the Southeast region, on diagnostic pathways, screening practices, and barriers to ASD identification in Brazil, following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Results: Across studies, mean age at diagnosis frequently exceeded 48–60 months, while the interval between first caregiver concern and diagnosis ranged from 24 to 36 months, with tertiary-care samples reporting diagnostic ages approaching 79 months. Diagnosis was predominantly specialist-driven, with limited involvement of primary care providers (PCPs). Later identification was associated with reliance on the public health system in a multinational analysis that included Brazil, while geographic concentration of specialized services and socioeconomic inequalities were identified as reported barriers across the included studies. Race/ethnicity was rarely reported. Delays emerged from interacting multilevel barriers, including limited caregiver awareness, dismissal of parental concerns, inconsistent developmental surveillance, fragmented referral pathways, and shortages of specialists. Structural inequities, particularly geographic disparities and urban concentration of services, compounded these challenges. Conclusions: The evidence suggests delayed ASD diagnosis in Brazil reflects systemic gaps in care organization rather than isolated clinical factors. Strengthening PCP-based developmental surveillance and improving referral coordination are key strategies to reduce preventable delays and promote earlier access to intervention. Full article

Background/Objectives: Third-generation cephalosporins are used to treat many infections, including urinary tract infections. Despite the risk of inducing resistance in SPICE-HaM microorganisms (Serratia, Providencia, indole-positive Proteus, Citrobacter freundii complex, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Klebsiella aerogenes, Hafnia alvei and Morganella morganii), a group of microorganisms with inducible beta-lactamase potentials, guidelines still recommend treating uncomplicated cystitis with third-generation cephalosporins. To improve outpatient pediatric antimicrobial practice, this study aimed to develop a five-year pediatric cumulative antimicrobial susceptibility testing report for SPICE-HaM microorganisms in urine and compare the in vitro sensitivity of cefixime/ceftriaxone with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim. Methods: Over 300 pediatric SPICE-HaM urine isolates, processed at regional microbiology laboratories of LifeLabs British Columbia between 2020 and 2024, were analyzed. Results: Compared to cefixime, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim demonstrated higher sensitivity against Citrobacter freundii complex (65% versus 95%, p < 0.05, n = 57), Enterobacter cloacae complex (49% versus 92%, p < 0.05, n = 89), and Morganella morganii (68% versus 92%, p < 0.05, n = 76). Compared to ceftriaxone, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim failed to show significantly different sensitivities for the SPICE-HaM microorganisms. Conclusions: Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim is possibly a more favourable oral agent for SPICE-HaM-associated urinary tract infections in the local pediatric community population compared to cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin. However, compared to ceftriaxone, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim appears to have similar efficacy for SPICE-HaM-associated urinary tract infections. Full article

Insulin resistance (IR) represents one of the most pressing problems in contemporary public health. Its estimated global prevalence ranges from approximately 15.5% to over 61%, depending on the population studied, the diagnostic criteria applied, and the method used for its assessment. Despite the scale of the problem, IR remains underrecognized and lacks formal definition as a distinct disease entity, even as a growing number of clinicians and researchers worldwide describe it as such. Its asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic course allows it to remain undetected for years, during which it makes a significant contribution to the development of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly NAFLD), and has been increasingly linked to cellular senescence, certain cancers, neuropsychiatric disorders, and other metabolic conditions. The aim of this review was to summarize current knowledge on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and clinical implications of insulin resistance, to discuss current challenges in its diagnosis, and to evaluate whether available scientific evidence supports its recognition as a distinct disease entity. This narrative review is based on clinical, epidemiological, and mechanistic data retrieved from PubMed and Google Scholar. Meta-analyses, systematic reviews, clinical and observational studies, clinical guidelines, and expert position statements were analyzed. Animal studies were excluded to maintain a focus on human public health implications. The diagnostic gold standard—the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp—was discussed, along with surrogate methods used in clinical practice (HOMA-IR, OGTT with insulin measurements, the TyG index, and the TG/HDL-C ratio). Factors potentially contributing to the pathogenesis of IR were examined, including hyperinsulinemia (HI), high-carbohydrate diets, inflammation, stress, and sleep disturbances, as well as conditions in which IR occurs physiologically. The findings indicate that current evidence supports the need for a clearer clinical and diagnostic framework for insulin resistance and suggest that its recognition as a distinct disease entity could facilitate earlier diagnosis, improve the standardization of clinical management, and enable earlier metabolic intervention. Given the steadily rising prevalence of metabolic disease, systemic efforts directed at the early identification and treatment of IR may be a key component of strategies aimed at reducing the population-level burden of metabolic disease and its negative consequences. The modern agricultural sector faces a multidimensional crisis, mainly consisting of an aging workforce, labor shortages, exhausting working conditions, and high rates of work-related accidents. In response, the authors carried out a systematic literature review (SLR), to explore the latest research on smart agricultural technologies, their effects on occupational safety, ergonomics, and worker health, and pinpoint obstacles to sustainable adoption. A thorough search was performed solely in the Scopus database, covering peer-reviewed publications from 2020 to 2026, strictly following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Based solely on Scopus, this study provides a focused synthesis, with the results suggesting that hazards such as chemical exposure and musculoskeletal strain are significantly reduced with the use of innovations such as unmanned vehicles, exoskeletons, and collaborative robots. These technologies also show great promise in cutting down resource waste, helping farmers practice sustainable agriculture. However, a recurring gap between research and real-life deployment exists, as adoption is hindered by cost considerations, reliability issues, and ergonomic problems. To achieve a sustainable technological transition in agriculture, it is necessary to simultaneously bridge three critical gaps: technological (ensuring robust field performance), ergonomic (design and testing processes based on real end-users and their needs), and socio-economic (addressing adoption barriers). GaP and ZnTe semiconductor crystals are numerically investigated for terahertz (THz) generation driven by ultrafast 10.6 µm CO2 laser pumping. At this wavelength, low-order multiphoton absorption is effectively suppressed, enabling the study of intrinsic performance limits governed by nonlinear optical effects, material dispersion, and THz absorption. A one-plus-one-dimensional (1+1D) frequency domain propagation model is employed, including optical rectification, cascaded nonlinear interactions, self-phase modulation, second-harmonic generation, and pulse-front-tilt-related dispersion. The simulations reveal markedly different behavior in the two crystals. In ZnTe, the large effective nonlinear coefficient enables conversion efficiencies exceeding 1% while maintaining good THz pulse quality. In GaP, strong self-phase modulation and nonlinear pulse compression can enhance the predicted efficiency but at the cost of waveform distortion and increased damage risk. MV/cm-level THz electric fields are predicted in both materials; however, ZnTe provides a more favorable compromise between conversion efficiency and pulse quality. The results provide practical guidelines for optimizing CO2-laser-driven semiconductor THz sources. Full article

The increasing global demand for clean energy has established wind power as a leading solution for sustainable electricity generation. The efficiency and reliability of wind turbines are strongly influenced by blade design, which governs both aerodynamic performance and structural integrity. In this study, a wind turbine blade based on the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) 4412 airfoil was developed for composite manufacturing, with variations in laminate layers (4, 8, 12, and 16) to optimize stiffness, strength, and weight. To reduce prototyping costs and development time, the structural response under operational loads was simulated using ANSYS Workbench 2025 R1. The Taguchi method was employed to minimize the number of experimental trials, considering three factors at four levels each. A multi-objective optimization was then performed to minimize tip deformation and maximum stress while ensuring a safe failure index. The results indicated that force distance was the most influential factor, followed by laminate configuration, while force magnitude had a comparatively smaller effect within the tested range. The configuration with a force of 15 N, a force distance of 60 cm, and 12 laminate layers achieved a composite desirability of 0.9413, leading to a significant reduction in deformation and stress while maintaining structural safety. These findings validate the effectiveness of the proposed design and optimization framework and provide practical guidelines for the development of high-performance composite wind turbine blades. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and aerobic vaginitis (AV) are usually described as distinct forms of vaginal dysbiosis. BV is characterized by depletion of lactobacilli, overgrowth of anaerobic microorganisms, and biofilm formation, whereas AV is associated with inflammatory changes, epithelial disruption, and predominance of aerobic bacteria. Over the past two decades, this distinction has profoundly influenced the understanding, diagnosis, and management of vaginal disorders. Despite their apparent differences, the relationship between BV and AV remains incompletely understood. Growing evidence indicates that many women exhibit microbiological and microscopic patterns that cannot be readily classified within existing diagnostic frameworks. Intermediate Nugent scores, mixed vaginitis, transitional ecological states, post-treatment microbiota reconstitution, physiological hypoestrogenic conditions, and uncommon inflammatory patterns all challenge the traditional view of BV and AV as strictly separate entities. This narrative review examines the historical evolution of BV and AV concepts, compares their microbiological, immunological, and epithelial characteristics, and evaluates the diagnostic paradigms currently used to identify vaginal dysbiosis. The strengths and limitations of clinical and diagnostic approaches are discussed together with the extent to which contemporary international guidelines reflect current biological knowledge. Particular emphasis is placed on intermediate, mixed, and overlapping states that blur the boundaries between established diagnostic categories. The available evidence supports the clinical usefulness of distinguishing BV and AV as separate clinicopathological entities. However, it also indicates that vaginal ecosystem disturbances frequently extend beyond rigid dichotomous classifications. Current diagnostic categories remain valuable tools for clinical practice, yet they may only partially capture the complexity and dynamic nature of vaginal dysbiosis. Understanding how microbial communities, host responses, epithelial integrity, and physiological factors interact remains a major challenge for future research and clinical interpretation.
