Power outages pose considerable risks to the reliability of electric grids, affecting both consumers and utilities through service disruptions and potential economic losses. This study analyzes a historical outage dataset from a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) to reveal key patterns and trends that suggest outage management strategies. By integrating exploratory data analysis, predictive modeling, and a Large Language Model (LLM)-based interface integration, as well as data visualization techniques, we identify and present critical drivers of outage duration and frequency. A random forest regressor trained on features including planned duration, facility name, outage owner, priority, season, and equipment type proved highly effective for predicting outage duration with high accuracy. This predictive framework underscores the practical value of incorporating planning information and seasonal context in anticipating outage timelines. The findings of this study not only deepen the understanding of temporal and spatial outage dynamics but also provide valuable insights for utility companies and researchers. Utility companies can use these results to better predict outage durations, allocate resources more effectively, and improve service restoration time. Researchers can leverage this analysis to enhance future models and methodologies for studying outage patterns, ensuring that artificial intelligence (AI)-driven methods can contribute to improving management strategies. The broader impact of this study is to ensure that the insights gained can be applied to strengthen the reliability and resilience of power grids or energy systems in general. Full article

Environmental vibrations may affect the functional use of engineering structures and even lead to disastrous consequences. Vibration suppression and energy harvesting based on Nonlinear Energy Sink (NES) and the piezoelectric effect have gained significant attention in recent years. The harvested electrical energy can supply power to the structural health monitoring sensor device. In this work, the electromechanical-coupled governing equations of the primary structure coupled with the series-connected 2-degree-of-freedom NES (2-DOF NES) integrated by a piezoelectric energy harvester are derived. The absorption and dissipation performances of the system under varying transient excitation intensities are investigated. Additionally, the targeted energy transfer mechanism between the primary structure and the two NESs oscillators is investigated using the wavelet analysis. The reduced slow flow of the dynamical system is explored through the complex-variable averaging method, and the primary factors for triggering the target energy transfer phenomenon are revealed. Furthermore, a comparison is made between the vibration suppression performance of the single-degree-of-freedom NES (S-DOF NES) system and the 2-DOF NES system as a function of external excitation velocity. The results indicate that the vibration suppression performance of the first-level NES (NES1) oscillator is first stimulated. As the external excitation intensity gradually increases, the vibration suppression performance of the second-level NES (NES2) oscillator is also triggered. The 1:1:1, high-frequency, and low-frequency transient resonance captures are observed between the primary structure and NES1 and NES2 oscillators over a wide frequency range. The 2-DOF NES demonstrates superior efficiency in suppressing vibrations of the primary structure and exhibits enhanced robustness to varying external excitation intensities. This provides a new strategy for structural vibration suppression and online power supply for health monitoring devices. Full article

Objectives: To systematically review and analyze electronic systems in competitive motorcycles (2020-2025), examining their technical specifications, performance impacts, and technological evolution across MotoGP, World Superbike (WSBK), MotoE, British Superbike (BSB), and Spanish Championship (ESBK) categories. Eligibility criteria: Included studies reporting technical specifications or performance data of electronic systems in professional motorcycle racing, published between January 2020 and December 2025 in English, Spanish, Italian, or Japanese. Excluded: opinion pieces, amateur racing, and studies without quantitative data. Information sources: IEEE Xplore, SAE Technical Papers, Web of Science, Scopus, and specialized motorsport databases were searched through December 15, 2025. Risk of bias: Modified Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for experimental studies and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for observational studies. Synthesis of results: Synthesis of results: Random-effects meta-analysis using DerSimonian-Laird method for homogeneous outcomes; narrative synthesis for heterogeneous data. The complete PRISMA 2020 checklist is provided in Appendix . Included studies: 87 studies met inclusion criteria (52 experimental, 38 simulation, 23 technical descriptions, 14 comparative analyses). Electronic systems were categorized into six domains: Engine Control Units (ECU, 28 studies, 22%), Vehicle Dynamics (23 studies, 18%), Traction Control (19 studies, 15%), Data Acquisition (21 studies, 17%), Braking Systems (18 studies, 14%), and Emerging Technologies (18 studies, 14%). Note that studies could address multiple domains. Limitations of evidence: Proprietary restrictions limited access to 31% of technical details; 43% lacked cross-category comparisons. Interpretation: Electronic systems are primary performance differentiators, with computational power following Moore’s Law. Future developments point toward distributed architectures and 5G telemetry. RNA-targeting techniques have emerged as powerful tools in cancer research and therapeutics, offering precise and programmable control over gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Once viewed as passive intermediates in the central dogma, RNA molecules are now recognized as dynamic regulators of cellular function, capable of influencing transcription, translation, and epigenetic regulation. Advances in high-throughput sequencing technologies, transcriptomics, and structural RNA biology have uncovered a diverse landscape of coding and non-coding RNAs involved in oncogenesis, drug resistance, and tumor progression. In response, several RNA-targeting strategies have been developed to modulate these transcripts, including antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), RNA interference (RNAi), CRISPR-Cas13 systems, small molecules, and aptamers. This review provides a comparative analysis of these technologies, highlighting their molecular mechanisms, therapeutic potential, and current limitations. Emphasis is placed on the translational progress of RNA-targeting agents, including recent FDA approvals and ongoing clinical trials for cancer indications. Through a critical comparison of these strategies, this review underscores the growing significance of RNA-targeting technologies as a foundation for next-generation cancer therapeutics and precision oncology. This study investigates the effect of incorporating an electromagnetic harvester inside the bluff body of a 2-DoF hybrid harvester in comparison to a standalone piezoelectric harvester for various external loads. The harvester is excited through a vortex-induced vibration owing to the resultant wake vortices created behind the bluff body. The coupled dynamics of the two harvester components are modeled, and numerical simulations are conducted to evaluate the system’s performance under varying electrical loads. Numerical results show that at high, optimum electrical load, the standalone piezoelectric harvester outperforms the hybrid harvester. Nevertheless, for small electrical loads, the results show that the hybrid harvester outperforms the standalone PZT harvester by up to 18% in peak power output, while reducing the bandwidth by approximately 10% compared to the standalone piezoelectric harvester. Optimal spring stiffness values were identified, with the hybrid harvester achieving its maximum output power at a spring stiffness of 83.56 N/m. These findings underscore the need for careful design considerations, as the hybrid harvester may not achieve enhanced power output and bandwidth under higher electrical loads. Full article

Existing building management systems face critical limitations in real-time data integration, primarily relying on static models that lack dynamic updates from IoT sensors. To address this gap, this study proposes a novel system integrating MQTT over WebSocket with Three.js visualization, enabling real-time sensor-data binding to Building Information Models (BIM). The architecture leverages MQTT’s lightweight publish-subscribe protocol for efficient communication and employs a TCP-based retransmission mechanism to ensure 99.5% data reliability in unstable networks. A dynamic topic-matching algorithm is introduced to automate sensor-BIM associations, reducing manual configuration time by 60%. The system’s frontend, powered by Three.js, achieves browser-based 3D visualization with sub-second updates (280–550 ms latency), while the backend utilizes SpringBoot for scalable service orchestration. Experimental evaluations across diverse environments—including high-rise offices, industrial plants, and residential complexes—demonstrate the system’s robustness: Real-time monitoring: Fire alarms triggered within 2.1 s (22% faster than legacy systems). Network resilience: 98.2% availability under 30% packet loss. User efficiency: 4.6/5 satisfaction score from facility managers. Mineral prospecting from vast geological text corpora is impeded by challenges in domain-specific semantic interpretation and knowledge synthesis. General-purpose Large Language Models (LLMs) struggle to parse the complex lexicon and relational semantics of geological texts, limiting their utility for constructing precise knowledge graphs (KGs). Our novel framework addresses this gap by integrating a domain-specific LLM, GeoGPT, with a lightweight retrieval-augmented generation architecture, LightRAG. Within this framework, GeoGPT automates the construction of a high-quality mineral-prospecting KG by performing ontology definition, entity recognition, and relation extraction. The LightRAG component then leverages this KG to power a specialized geological question-answering (Q&A) system featuring a dual-layer retrieval mechanism for enhanced precision and an incremental update capability for dynamic knowledge incorporation. The results indicate that the proposed method achieves a mean F1-score of 0.835 for entity extraction, representing a 17% to 25% performance improvement over general-purpose large models using generic prompts. Furthermore, the geological Q&A model, built upon the LightRAG framework with GeoGPT as its core, demonstrates a superior win rate against the DeepSeek-V3 and Qwen2.5-72B general-purpose large models by 8–29% in the geochemistry domain and 53–78% in the remote sensing geology domain. This study establishes an effective and scalable methodology for intelligent geological text analysis, enabling lightweight, high-performance Q&A systems that accelerate knowledge discovery in mineral exploration. We present a theoretical model to explain how tubulin dimers in neuronal microtubules might achieve collective quantum coherence, resulting in wavefunction collapses that manifest as avalanches within a self-organized criticality (SOC) framework. Using the Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) theory as inspiration, we propose that microtubule subunits (tubulins) become transiently entangled via dipole–dipole couplings, forming coherent domains susceptible to sudden self-collapse. We model a network of tubulin-like nodes with scale-free (Barabási–Albert) connectivity, each evolving via local coupling and stochastic noise. Near criticality, the system exhibits power-law avalanches—abrupt collective state changes that we identify with instantaneous quantum wavefunction collapse events. Using the Diósi–Penrose gravitational self-energy formula, we estimate objective reduction times TOR=/Eg for these events in the 10–200 ms range, consistent with the Orch-OR conscious moment timescale. Our results demonstrate that quantum coherence at the tubulin level can be amplified by scale-free critical dynamics, providing a possible bridge between sub-neuronal quantum processes and large-scale neural activity. Trust plays a pivotal role in individuals’ interactions with technological systems, and those incorporating artificial intelligence present significantly greater challenges than traditional systems. The current landscape of higher education is increasingly shaped by the integration of AI assistants into students’ classroom experiences. Their appropriate use is closely tied to the level of trust placed in these tools, as well as the strategies adopted to critically assess the accuracy of AI-generated content. However, scholarly attention to this dimension remains limited. To explore these dynamics, this study applied the POTDAI evaluation framework to a sample of 132 engineering and social sciences students at Camilo José Cela University in Madrid, Spain. The findings reveal a general lack of trust in AI assistants despite their extensive use, common reliance on inadequate verification methods, and a notable skepticism regarding professors’ ability to detect AI-related errors. Additionally, students demonstrated a concerning misperception of the capabilities of different AI models, often favoring less advanced or less appropriate tools. These results underscore the urgent need to establish a reliable verification protocol accessible to both students and faculty, and to further investigate the reasons why students opt for limited tools over the more powerful alternatives made available to them. Grid-based distribution networks represent an advanced form of smart grids that enable modular, region-specific optimization of power resource allocation. This paper presents a novel planning framework aimed at the coordinated deployment of distributed generation, electrical loads, and energy storage systems, including both dispatchable and non-dispatchable electric vehicles. A three-dimensional objective system is constructed, incorporating investment cost, reliability metrics, and network loss indicators, forming a comprehensive multi-objective optimization model. To solve this complex planning problem, an improved version of the NSGA-II is employed, integrating hybrid encoding, feasibility constraints, and fuzzy decision-making for enhanced solution quality. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE 33-bus distribution system to validate its practicality. Simulation results demonstrate that the framework effectively addresses key challenges in modern distribution networks, including renewable intermittency, dynamic load variation, resource coordination, and computational tractability. It significantly enhances system operational efficiency and electric vehicles charging flexibility under varying conditions. In the IEEE 33-bus test, the coordinated optimization (Scheme 4) reduced the expected load loss from 100 × 10−4 yuan to 51 × 10−4 yuan. Network losses also dropped from 2.7 × 10−4 yuan to 2.5 × 10−4 yuan. The findings highlight the model’s capability to balance economic investment and reliability, offering a robust solution for future intelligent distribution network planning and integrated energy resource management. This research is based on the acoustic package design of new energy vehicles, investigating the application of the hybrid Finite Element–Statistical Energy Analysis (FE-SEA) model in predicting the high-frequency dynamic response of automotive structures, with a focus on the modeling and correction methods for hybrid point connections. New energy vehicles face unique acoustic challenges due to the special nature of their power systems and operating conditions, such as high-frequency noise from electric motors and electronic devices, wind noise, and road noise at low speeds, which directly affect the vehicle’s ride comfort. Therefore, optimizing the acoustic package design of new energy vehicles to reduce in-cabin noise and improve acoustic quality is an important issue in automotive engineering. In this context, this study proposes an improved point connection correction factor by optimizing the division range of the decision circle. The factor corrects the dynamic stiffness of point connections based on wave characteristics, aiming to improve the analysis accuracy of the hybrid FE-SEA model and enhance its ability to model boundary effects. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the model’s analysis accuracy, reduce the degrees of freedom in analysis, and increase efficiency, providing important theoretical support and reference for the acoustic package design and NVH performance optimization of new energy vehicles. Research on the Fatigue Reliability of a Catenary Support Structure Under High-Speed Train Operation Conditions

As the core component of electrified railway power supply systems, the fatigue performance and reliability of catenary support structures are directly related to the operational safety of high-speed railways. To address the problem of structural fatigue damage caused by increasing train speed and high-frequency operation, this study develops a refined finite element model including a support structure, suspension system and support column, and the dynamic response characteristics and fatigue life evolution law under train operation conditions are systematically analyzed. The results show that under the conditions of 250 km/h speed and 100 times daily traffic, the fatigue lives of the limit locator and positioning support are 43.56 years and 34.48 years, respectively, whereas the transverse cantilever connection and inclined cantilever have infinite life characteristics. When the train speed increases to 400 km/h, the annual fatigue damage of the positioning bearing increases from 0.029 to 0.065, and the service life is shortened by 55.7% to 15.27 years, which proves that high-speed working conditions significantly aggravate the deterioration of fatigue in the structure. The reliability analysis based on Monte Carlo simulation reveals that when the speed is 400 km/h and the daily traffic is 130 times, the structural reliability shows an exponential declining trend with increasing service life. If the daily traffic frequency exceeds 130, the 15-year reliability decreases to 92.5%, the 20-year reliability suddenly decreases to 82.4%, and there is a significant inflection point of failure in the 15–20 years of service. Considering the coupling effect of environmental factors (wind load, temperature and freezing), the actual failure risk may be higher than the theoretical value. On the basis of these findings, engineering suggestions are proposed: for high-speed lines with a daily traffic frequency of more than 130 times, shortening the overhaul cycle of the catenary support structure to 7–10 years and strengthening the periodic inspection and maintenance of positioning support and limit locators are recommended. The research results provide a theoretical basis for the safety assessment and maintenance decision making of high-speed railway catenary systems. Full article

Electric vehicle (EV) battery thermal management systems have gradually improved owing to the increasing power demand of EVs. This study aims to optimize the channel geometry of sandwich double-sided cold plates for EV battery cooling under 100% state of charge and 2C-rate charging conditions. For precise and accurate optimization, the conventional one-dimensional analysis model of the sandwich double-sided cold plate was converted into a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Non-dimensional parameters were selected as the main variables of the channel geometry, and nine additional channel shapes were derived based on them. Battery modules with the derived channel shapes were subjected to CFD analysis in the Reynolds number range of 500 to 20,000. The goodness factor was calculated from these correlations, and optimization was performed using the Taguchi method. The results revealed that the wetted area of the channel had a greater impact on battery cooling than the number of channels. This study proposed more generalized design guidelines by employing non-dimensionalized parameters across a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The rectangular channel-based correlations developed in this study showed improved prediction accuracy compared to conventional annular pipe-based correlations and are expected to be applicable to various battery thermal management system designs in the future. SZOA: An Improved Synergistic Zebra Optimization Algorithm for Microgrid Scheduling and Management

To address the challenge of coordinating economic cost control and low-carbon objectives in microgrid scheduling, while overcoming the performance limitations of the traditional Zebra Optimization Algorithm (ZOA) in complex problems, this paper proposes a Synergistic Zebra Optimization Algorithm (SZOA) and integrates it with innovative management concepts to enhance the microgrid scheduling process. The SZOA incorporates three core strategies: a multi-population cooperative search mechanism to strengthen global exploration, a vertical crossover–mutation strategy to meet high-dimensional scheduling requirements, and a leader-guided boundary control strategy to ensure variable feasibility. These strategies not only improve algorithmic performance but also provide technical support for innovative management in microgrid scheduling. Extensive experiments on the CEC2017 (d = 30) and CEC2022 (d = 10, 20) benchmark sets demonstrate that the SZOA achieves higher optimization accuracy and stability compared with those of nine state-of-the-art algorithms, including IAGWO and EWOA. Friedman tests further confirm its superiority, with the best average rankings of 1.20 for CEC2017 and 1.08/1.25 for CEC2022 (d = 10, 20). To validate practical applicability, the SZOA is applied to grid-connected microgrid scheduling, where the system model integrates renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) generation and wind turbines (WT); controllable sources including fuel cells (FC), microturbines (MT), and gas engines (GS); a battery (BT) storage unit; and the main grid. The optimization problem is formulated as a bi-objective model minimizing both economic costs—including fuel, operation, pollutant treatment, main-grid interactions, and imbalance penalties—and carbon emissions, subject to constraints on generation limits and storage state-of-charge safety ranges. Simulation results based on typical daily data from Guangdong, China, show that the optimized microgrid achieves a minimum operating cost of USD 5165.96, an average cost of USD 6853.07, and a standard deviation of only USD 448.53, consistently outperforming all comparison algorithms across economic indicators. Meanwhile, the SZOA dynamically coordinates power outputs: during the daytime, it maximizes PV utilization (with peak output near 35 kW) and WT contribution (30–40 kW), while reducing reliance on fossil-based units such as FC and MT; at night, BT discharges (−20 to −30 kW) to cover load deficits, thereby lowering fossil fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Overall, the SZOA effectively realizes the synergy of “economic efficiency and low-carbon operation”, offering a reliable and practical technical solution for innovative management and sustainable operation of microgrid scheduling. Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have emerged as a promising model for energy-efficient, event-driven processing of asynchronous event streams from Dynamic Vision Sensors (DVSs), a class of neuromorphic image sensors with microsecond-level latency and high dynamic range. Nevertheless, challenges persist in optimising training and effectively handling spatio-temporal complexity, which limits their potential for real-time applications on embedded sensing systems such as object tracking and recognition. Targeting this neuromorphic sensing pipeline, this paper proposes the Dynamic Tracking with Event Attention Spiking Network (DTEASN), a novel framework designed to address these challenges by employing a pure SNN architecture, bypassing conventional convolutional neural network (CNN) operations, and reducing GPU resource dependency, while tailoring the processing to DVS signal characteristics (asynchrony, sparsity, and polarity). The model incorporates two innovative, self-developed components: an event-driven multi-scale attention mechanism and a spatio-temporal event convolver, both of which significantly enhance spatio-temporal feature extraction from raw DVS events. An Event-Weighted Spiking Loss (EW-SLoss) is introduced to optimise the learning process by prioritising informative events and improving robustness to sensor noise. Additionally, a lightweight event tracking mechanism and a custom synaptic connection rule are proposed to further improve model efficiency for low-power, edge deployment. The efficacy of DTEASN is demonstrated through empirical results on event-based (DVS) object recognition and tracking benchmarks, where it outperforms conventional methods in accuracy, latency, event throughput (events/s) and spike rate (spikes/s), memory footprint, spike-efficiency (energy proxy), and overall computational efficiency under typical DVS settings. By virtue of its event-aligned, sparse computation, the framework is amenable to highly parallel neuromorphic hardware, supporting on- or near-sensor inference for embedded applications. Full article
