Background/Objectives: Effective teamwork is crucial for minimizing human error in healthcare settings. Medical teams, typically composed of physicians and nurses, supported by auxiliary professionals, achieve better outcomes when they possess strong collaborative competencies. High-quality teamwork is associated with fewer adverse events and complications and lower mortality rates. Based on this background, the objective of this study is to analyze the perception of non-technical skills and immediate learning outcomes in interprofessional simulation settings based on E-CRM items. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving participants from the official postgraduate Medicine and Nursing programs at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) during the 2024–2025 academic year. Four interprofessional E-CRM simulation sessions were planned, involving randomly assigned groups with proportional representation of medical and nursing students. Teams worked consistently throughout the training and participated in clinical scenarios observed via video transmission by their peers. Post-scenario debriefings followed INACSL guidelines and employed the PEARLS method. Results: Findings indicate that 48.3% of participants had no difficulty identifying the team leader, while 51.7% reported minor difficulty. Role assignment posed moderate-to-high difficulty for 24.1% of respondents. Communication, situation awareness, and early help-seeking were generally managed with ease, though mobilizing resources remained a challenge for 27.5% of participants. Conclusions: This study supports the value of interprofessional education in developing essential competencies for handling urgent, emergency, and high-complexity clinical situations. Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to safer, more effective patient care. Full article

Background: Intermediate care units face growing complexity due to aging populations and chronic illnesses. Non-technical skills such as empathy and communication are crucial for quality care. We aimed to examine the relationship between communication skills, self-efficacy, and sense of coherence among intermediate care nurses. Methods: We conducted an observational, cross-sectional study with 60 intermediate care nurses from three units in a Catalan hospital, Spain. Participants engaged in high-fidelity simulation using geriatric end-of-life scenarios with an ultra-realistic manikin representing a geriatric patient at the end of life. NTSs were measured using validated tools: the Health Professionals Communication Skills Scale (HP-CSS), the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (OLQ-13). Sessions followed INACSL standards, including prebriefing, simulation, and debriefing phases. Results: Post-simulation outcomes revealed significant gains in interpersonal competencies, with men reporting higher assertiveness (p = 0.015) and greater satisfaction with both the simulation experience (p = 0.003) and the instructor (p = 0.008), underscoring gender-related perceptions in immersive training. Conclusions: Ultra-realistic clinical simulation is effective in enhancing NTS among intermediate care nurses, contributing to improved care quality and clearer professional profiles in geriatric nursing. ICT tools are fundamental for promoting educational inclusion, as they allow for flexible teaching practices adapted to the diversity of students. Their appropriate integration into teaching makes it easier to respond to different paces, styles, and needs, promoting the active and meaningful participation of all learners. However, this inclusive potential is only fulfilled if equitable access to and use of ICT is guaranteed, both at school and at home. This qualitative study explores the digital divide in its three main dimensions: access to technology, digital skills, and the meaningful use of ICT in educational settings. Through focus groups and semi-structured interviews, the study gathers the perceptions of different members of the educational community. The sample consists of 89 participants, including teachers, students, families, and school administrators from the Communities of Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha. The results reveal a common concern about inequalities in ICT access and use, related to economic, geographical, and educational factors. These findings emphasise the need for targeted public policies to bridge digital gaps and highlight the importance of promoting digital competence across the entire educational community to achieve true educational inclusion. The study examined the effect of BIE eCoaching on the functional communication training (FCT) implementation skills of pre-service teachers (PTs) and the effect of FCT implemented by PTs on reducing problem behaviors and increasing communication skills of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). After the intervention, it was examined whether PTs and children with ASD maintained and generalized the acquired behaviors. Moreover, PTs answered a social validity form before and after the intervention. The methodology of this study involved single-subject research with a multiple-probe design between pairs of participants. The BIE eCoaching intervention was effective in children with ASD’s use, maintenance, and generalization of FCT. FCT was effective in reducing problem behaviors, increasing communication skills, and maintaining and generalizing these skills in children with ASD. Social validity findings showed that PTs’ perceptions of BIE eCoaching changed positively at the end of the intervention. Full article

Currently, high-tech assistive technologies (ATs), particularly Socially Assistive Robots (SARs), virtual reality (VR) and conversational AI (ConvAI), are considered very useful in supporting professionals in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) for children with communication disorders. However, despite a positive public perception, therapists face difficulties when integrating these technologies into practice due to technical challenges and a lack of user-friendly interfaces. To address this gap, a design-based research approach has been employed to streamline the integration of SARs, VR and ConvAI in SLT, and a new software platform called “ATLog” has been developed for designing interactive and playful learning scenarios with ATs. ATLog’s main features include visual-based programming with graphical interface, enabling therapists to intuitively create personalized interactive scenarios without advanced programming skills. The platform follows a subprocess-oriented design, breaking down SAR skills and VR scenarios into microskills represented by pre-programmed graphical blocks, tailored to specific treatment domains, therapy goals, and language skill levels. The ATLog platform was evaluated by 27 SLT experts using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaires, extended with additional questions specifically focused on ATLog structure and functionalities. According to the SUS results, most of the experts (74%) evaluated ATLog with grades over 70, indicating high acceptance of its usability. Over half (52%) of the experts rated the additional questions focused on ATLog’s structure and functionalities in the A range (90–100), while 26% rated them in the B range (80–89), showing strong acceptance of the platform for creating and running personalized interactive scenarios with ATs. According to the TAM results, experts gave high grades for both perceived usefulness (44% in the A range) and perceived ease of use (63% in the A range). Full article

Objective: There is growing interest in analyzing whether ethical climates influence the emotional states of organizational members. For this reason, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the relationship between a benevolent ethical climate, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization, taking into account the mediating effect of job autonomy. Methodology: To evaluate the research hypotheses, data were collected from 448 people belonging to six organizations in the Colombian electricity sector. Statistical analysis was performed using two structural equation models (SEMs). Results: The results show that a benevolent climate and its three dimensions (friendship, group interest, and corporate social responsibility) mitigate the negative effect of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. A work environment focused on people and society triggers positive moods that prevent the loss of valuable psychological resources. On the other hand, job autonomy is a mechanism that has a direct impact on the emotional well-being of employees. Therefore, being able to intentionally direct one’s own sources of energy and motivation prevents an imbalance between resources and demands that blocks the potential effect of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Practical implications: This study has important practical implications. First, an ethical climate that seeks to build a caring environment needs to strengthen emotional communication among employees through a high perception of support. Second, organizations need to grow and achieve strategic objectives from a perspective of solidarity. Third, a benevolent ethical climate needs to be nurtured by professionals with a clear vocation for service and a preference for interacting with people. Finally, job autonomy must be accompanied by the necessary time management skills. Social implications: This study highlights the importance to society of an ethical climate based on friendship, group interest, and corporate social responsibility. In a society with a marked tendency to disengage from collective problems, it is essential to make decisions that take into account the well-being of others. Originality/value: This research responds to recent calls for more studies to identify organizational contexts capable of mitigating the negative effects of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Background: As population aging continues to accelerate, it is increasingly important to promote a positive perception of older adulthood from an early age. Service-Learning (SL), when integrated into Physical Education (PE), offers an opportunity to foster critical and prosocial awareness in primary school students, encouraging attitudes of respect and empathy toward older adults. Method: A qualitative study was conducted with 40 sixth-grade students who participated in an SL project at an adult day care center. Through weekly adapted PE sessions, the students engaged in direct interaction with older adults. Data were collected through reflective journals and analyzed using content analysis techniques. Results: The findings reveal a positive impact on students’ perceptions of older adults. Significant development of prosocial competencies, such as empathy, collaborative leadership, and communication skills, was observed. Furthermore, students expressed an enhanced sense of usefulness and social commitment. Conclusions: Intergenerational SL in PE is an effective strategy for improving academic learning, transforming attitudes, promoting civic values, and contributing to more inclusive education. Background: This study explored how health professionals construct clinical and psychological meaning based on the location of self-injury on the body, particularly in relation to concealed or visible injuries and how they might inform attributions about risk, self-injury functions, and distress. Methods: This study used qualitative thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with 19 health professionals with experience working with self-injury, exploring perceptions and attributions about self-injury in different body locations. Results: Seven themes emerged. In some cases, staff’s attributions aligned with the findings from studies of those who self-injure, such as injuries to areas such as the neck are higher risk. Location was one factor among others, such as injury severity, that staff considered when assessing the risk of infection or suicide. Staff often viewed visible injuries as less risky and attributed them to interpersonal communicative functions, and concealed injuries to intrapersonal factors, though not all staff shared these perspectives. Some staff considered other potential drivers of injury location, including past experiences such as trauma, demographic factors, mental health diagnoses, and exposure to social influences. Some staff described the practical determinants of injury location, such as ease of access, and considered the impact of self-injury location on themselves and their colleagues. Conclusions: Injury location can influence staff perceptions of risk, self-injury functions and distress, underscoring the need for individualized assessment and formulation of each self-injury episode to ensure appropriate risk management. Staff training should be adapted to address injury location to improve understanding, raise awareness of related attributions, and enhance the development of clinical skills. Organizations should support staff in their role due to the potential emotional impact of working with individuals who self-injure and are at risk of suicide. Future research should investigate whether location-based attributions are associated with unintended clinical consequences, such as inaccuracies in risk assessment and formulation. Full article

This study explores undergraduate students’ attitudes towards generative AI tools in higher education and their perspectives on the future of jobs. It aims to understand the decision-making processes behind adopting these emerging technologies. A multidimensional model based on the technology acceptance model was developed to assess various factors, including perceived ease of use, perceived benefits, perceived concerns, knowledge of AI, and students’ perceptions of generative AI’s impact on the future of jobs. Data were collected through a survey distributed to 93 undergraduate students at a university in Hong Kong. The findings of multiple regression analyses revealed that these factors collectively explained 23% of the variance in frequency of use [(F(4, 78) = 5.89, p < 0.001), R2 = 0.23]. Perceived benefits played the most significant role in determining frequency of use of generative AI tools. While students expressed mixed attitudes toward the role of AI in the future of jobs, those who voiced concerns about AI in education were more likely to view generative AI as a potential threat to job availability. The results provide insights for educators and policymakers to promote the effective use of generative AI tools in academic settings to help mitigate risks associated with overreliance, biases, and the underdevelopment of essential soft skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and communication. By addressing these challenges, higher education institutions can better prepare students for a rapidly evolving, AI-driven workforce. Full article

This qualitative study explores the perceptions of mothers who are victims of domestic violence regarding their children’s interactions during animal-assisted activities conducted over three months in a residential shelter. Utilizing a semi-structured interview approach, six mothers from diverse national backgrounds, aged 24 to 48 years, participated in the research. The study identifies perceived benefits, behavioral changes, and challenges encountered during the sessions. Content analysis revealed four main categories: (A) Parents’ perceptions of their children’s previous contact with pets; (B) initial expectations of parents regarding their children’s participation in the intervention; (C) mothers’ observations during the intervention sessions with the animals; and (D) mothers’ reflections after the intervention. Findings indicate benefits for children’s behavior and development, perceived improvements in socio-emotional skills and communication, as well as a positive emotional experience for the mothers throughout the process. The results underscore the significance of animal-assisted activities in promoting the well-being of children and their families. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating family perspectives in evaluating therapeutic interventions and offers insights for structuring more inclusive and effective animal-assisted intervention programs. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate perceptions and practices of urologists in Saudi Arabia regarding discussions of erectile dysfunction (ED) and ejaculatory dysfunction (EjD) with patients before initiating BPH treatments. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire distributed during the 36th Saudi Urological Annual Conference held in Riyadh in February 2025 among urologists in Saudi Arabia. A binary outcome variable, “frequent and open discussion,” was created based on a scoring system using the median score of these responses. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and univariate (p < 0.25) and multivariate (p < 0.05) logistic regression using SPSS version 27. Results: Discussions about ED risks were most frequent before prescribing 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs) (51.3%) and combined alpha-blockers and 5-ARIs therapy (50.0%), whereas EjD risks were more frequently addressed before alpha-blocker monotherapy (59.2%) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) (56.6%). A substantial proportion of urologists discussed alternative treatments based on sexual dysfunction risks, particularly before TURP (53.9%), alpha-blockers (47.4%), and 5-ARIs (43.4%). Univariate analysis revealed a trend towards more open discussions among non-Saudi urologists (OR 4.58, 95% CI 0.88–23.74, p = 0.06) and a significant association with working in private hospitals (OR 3.68, 95% CI 0.39–35.14, p = 0.03). However, these associations did not hold in multivariate analysis. Conclusions: Urologists in Saudi Arabia demonstrate variability in discussing sexual complications with patients before BPH treatments. Consistent and comprehensive discussions about ED and EjD risks are crucial for informed patient decision-making. Standardized guidelines and educational programs are needed to enhance urologists’ communication skills and ensure consistent patient counseling. Full article

Background: Competency in providing high-quality, comprehensive patient care is essential for newly qualified dentists. Dental curricula are designed to equip graduates with necessary skills to develop competencies. Outplacement training has been incorporated into most dental curricula to provide broader clinical experience in a real-world situation. Methods: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess (1) the perceived confidence of final-year dental students (FYDSs) at an Australian university with reference to the Australian Dental Council (ADC) professional competencies for newly qualified dentists; (2) the association between perceived confidence and the timing of outplacement training; and (3) students’ perceptions on outplacement training in developing their competencies. Two online surveys were administered to a cohort of FYDSs at the end of the first and second trimesters. ‘Survey 1’ was based on the ADC competency requirements (2022) and assessed aims 1 and 2. The five domains assessed were (1) communication and leadership; (2) critical thinking; (3) health promotion; (4) scientific and clinical knowledge; and (5) person-centred care. ‘Survey 2’ assessed students’ perception on outplacement training and was administered towards the completion of their outplacement to assess aim 3. Results: Students’ perceived competency levels were high across all domains. Those with prior tertiary education were more confident in communication and leadership, health promotion, and scientific and clinical knowledge than students with secondary qualifications. The perceived confidence in professional competencies among FYDSs had no significant association (p > 0.05) with the location or the sequence of outplacement. The thematic analysis of survey 2 responses reported the guidance and constructive feedback received from supervisors while managing cases in a real-life setup as a significant contributor to their confidence development. Conclusions: FYDSs reported a satisfactory level of perceived confidence in professional competencies. Both in-house training and outplacement equally improve the levels of competency development. FYDSs perceive outplacement training as a positive integral component in the development of skills. Full article

This research aims to study the impact of experiential learning and skill empowerment and community engagement and institutional support systems on student engagement and motivation and sustainable education in Saudi Arabian higher education institutions. The research uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS) as its quantitative methodology to study the relationships between experiential learning, skill empowerment, institutional support systems, and sustainable education. The proposed theoretical model was evaluated through a survey distributed to participants who were conveniently sampled from Saudi Arabian higher education institutions. The research shows that experiential learning together with skill development and community engagement boosts student motivation and supports sustainable education in Saudi Arabia. The study further reveals that institutional support systems have a weak moderating effect because their implementation and perception require improvement to effectively support sustainability. The main limitations are the use of self-reported data which may be influenced by response biases and the focus on higher education only which limits the generalizability of the findings to other educational levels. The research indicates that experiential learning activities including internships, community projects, and skill empowerment programs should be integrated into education to boost student involvement and motivation toward sustainability. The research applies the established theories of Kolb’s Experiential Learning, Human Capital, and Social Learning to Saudi Arabia’s educational context to show how they can be adapted to promote sustainable education through experiential learning, skill development, and community engagement. This study bridges critical research gaps by elucidating the nuanced moderating role of institutional support systems—an underexplored factor—and addressing the methodological limitations associated with a reliance on self-reported data, thereby significantly advancing the understanding of their influence on student engagement and sustainable education within diverse academic and cultural contexts. Climate change and variability are characterized by unpredictable and extreme weather events. They adversely impact the highly susceptible smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, who heavily rely on rain-fed agriculture. Climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices have been extensively promoted as offering long-term solutions to changing climate conditions, while enhancing the productivity and sustainability of African agricultural systems. Despite this, the adoption rate remains low among smallholder farmers. Understanding the factors that influence adoption of these practices among this key farming community is therefore necessary to increase their adoption. In this paper, we review and summarize findings from existing studies on the factors that influence the adoption of CSA practices by smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Our review reveals that land tenure security, access to information and extension services, and affiliation to group membership positively influence adoption. On the other hand, gender, risk perception, and off-farm income had conflicting effects by reporting both positive and negative influences on CSA adoption. We conclude that CSA adoption options are local-specific, and their development and implementation should emphasize locally tailored knowledge, skills, and resources. Full article

Background/Objectives: Hearing loss represents an important communication barrier which can lead to social isolation and can be a challenge for mental health status. It is generally accepted that hearing aid (HA) users can develop a stigma related to hearing loss despite the perceived benefits due to most modern technologies. Nevertheless, stigma toward HAs may persist even when patients have been well acclimatized to their use. This study aims to evaluate their experiences in everyday life, the underlying social aspects and the utility of psychometric multidimensional approach in skilled HA users. Methods: In total, 96 HA users and 85 normally hearing subjects were enrolled and asked to complete three psychometric questionnaires that investigated social functioning, body image perception, and psychological distress. HA users were additionally asked to fulfill a disease-specific survey, the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids. The performance of the devices was also investigated by HA’s functional gain through free-field audiometry. Results: Even if auditory devices help with compensating the sensorial deprivation, patients often suffer from social anxiety, social phobia and body image concerns about their appearance while wearing HAs. Conclusions: This study discloses psychopathological factors associated with the HA experience that are surprisingly present after long satisfying HA use. Despite the benefits, the satisfaction and the daily use, HA users continue to be worried about body image and report more psychopathological distress in comparison to their normal hearing peers.
