Wellbore strengthening is a widely applied technique to mitigate wellbore leakage during drilling operations in complex formations characterized by narrow mud weight windows. This method enhances the wellbore’s pressure-bearing capacity by using lost circulation materials (LCMs) to bridge natural or induced fractures. In recent years, advanced sealing technologies such as wellbore reinforcement have gradually been applied and developed, but their related influencing factors and mechanisms have not been deeply revealed. This article uses the Cohesive module of ABAQUS to establish a wellbore fracture sealing model. By establishing a porous elastic finite element model, the elastic mechanics theory of porous media is combined with finite element theory. Under the influence of factors such as anisotropy of geostress, reservoir elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and fracturing fluid viscosity, the circumferential stress distribution of the wellbore after fracture sealing is simulated. The simulation results show that stress anisotropy has a significant impact on Mises stress. The greater the stress anisotropy, the more likely the wellbore sealing is to cause wellbore rupture or instability. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a suitable wellbore direction to avoid high stress concentration areas. The elastic modulus of the reservoir is an important parameter that affects wellbore stability and fracturing response, especially in high modulus reservoirs where the effect is more pronounced. Poisson’s ratio has a relatively minor impact. In fracturing and plugging design, the viscosity of fracturing fluid should be reasonably selected to balance the relationship between plugging efficiency and wellbore mechanical stability. In the actual drilling process, priority should be given to choosing the wellbore direction that avoids high stress concentration areas to reduce the risk of wellbore rupture or instability induced by plugging, specify targeted wellbore reinforcement strategies for high elastic modulus reservoirs; using models to predict fracture response characteristics can guide the use of sealing materials, achieve efficient bridging and stable sealing, and enhance the maximum pressure bearing capacity of the wellbore. By simulating the changes in circumferential stress distribution of the wellbore after fracture sealing, the mechanism of wellbore reinforcement was explored to provide guidance for mechanism analysis and on-site application. LiTaO3 crystals doped with Cr3+ and Nd3+ ions are promising for developing active nonlinear laser media. In this work, the defect structure of LiTaO3 crystals, including those doped with Cr3+ and Nd3+, is examined. X-ray patterns of all six investigated LiTaO3:Cr:Nd crystals are identical and correspond to a highly perfect structure. Using optical microscopy, the presence of defects of various shapes, microinhomogeneities, and lacunae was revealed. The optical absorption and Raman scattering spectra of a series of nonlinear, optical, double-doped LiTaO3:Cr3+:Nd3+ (0.06 ≤ [Cr3+] ≤ 0.2; 0.2 ≤ [Nd3+] ≤ 0.45 wt%) crystals showed that at concentrations of doping Cr3+ ions less than 0.09 wt% and Nd3+ ions less than 0.25 wt%, the crystal structure is characterized by a low level of defects, and the optical transmission spectra characterized by narrow lines corresponding to electron transitions in Nd3+ ions. In this case, for the radiative transition in the cation sublattice, the existence of three nonequivalent neodymium centers is observed, and for the radiative transition, two nonequivalent centers are observed. IR absorption spectroscopy in the OH-stretching vibration range revealed two main spectral regions: 3463–3465 cm−1, associated with stoichiometry changes, and 3486–3490 cm−1, linked to complex defects such as (V-Li)-OH and (Ta4+Li)-OH. A distinct low-intensity line at ~3504 cm−1 was observed only in doped crystals, attributed to (Nd2+Li)-OH defects that significantly distort the oxygen-octahedral clusters due to the larger ionic radius of Nd3+ compared to Ta5+. In contrast, Cr-related defects cause only minor distortions. The Klauer method indicated that the highest concentration of OH-groups occurs in the LiTaO3:Cr3+ (0.09 wt%):Nd3+ (0.25 wt%) crystal, where multiple complex defects are present. Full article

Global data reveal ongoing inequalities faced by minorities, often reinforced by media portrayals that depict them as threats, victims, or passive individuals without agency. While media framing has been extensively studied, especially in terms of media content and representation, few studies have examined how journalists perceive and navigate the coverage of minorities. This study addresses that gap by examining how Greek journalists perceive mainstream media coverage of refugees and migrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with mental health challenges, with particular attention to their sourcing practices and sense of ethical responsibility. Fourteen journalists participated in semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis was applied to identify key patterns. Journalists described dominant media narratives as fragmented, stereotypical, and dehumanizing, noting the frequent use of linguistic inaccuracies, misinformation, and the absence of personal stories. At the same time, they reported opportunities within their own sourcing practices to promote more inclusive and accurate coverage. Ethical concerns were expressed on three levels—union; corporate; and personal—with calls for clearer editorial guidelines and dedicated training. Many participants emphasized the role of personal ethics as a guiding compass in navigating complex newsroom pressures. Full article

4-Aminodiphenylamine (4-ADPA) is a common additive in rubber tires, known for its antioxidant properties. It plays a crucial role in enhancing tire durability by preventing issues such as drying, cracking, and degradation from prolonged exposure to environmental factors like heat, oxygen, and ozone. However, despite its advantages in extending tire lifespan, the use of 4-ADPA raises significant environmental concerns. As tires wear down, microscopic tire wear particles (TWPs) containing 4-ADPA are released into the environment with substantial leaching, contaminating the waterways. The 4-ADPA leachates pollute and pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems, affecting various forms of marine life. The current study investigates the ecotoxicological effects of 4-ADPA on the aquatic plant Lemna minor (L. minor), focusing on its impact on relative growth and physiological biomarkers. Several parameters were assessed to evaluate ecotoxicity, including frond morphology, fresh biomass, total frond number, chlorophyll content, and starch accumulation. L. minor was grown for 7 and 14 days under controlled laboratory conditions using Hoagland media with varying concentrations of 4-ADPA (10–100 μg/L), while a control group was maintained in media without 4-ADPA. The results indicate that exposure to 4-ADPA led to a dose-dependent reduction in fresh biomass, total frond number, and chlorophyll levels. Lugol’s staining revealed increased starch accumulation in the fronds after exposure to 4-ADPA. The biological effects observed in L. minor following exposure to 4-ADPA, even at environmentally relevant concentrations, demonstrate a significant ecotoxicological impact on aquatic ecosystems. Further research involving additional species and investigating the mechanisms behind 4-ADPA toxicity is recommended to better understand its long-term consequences. Full article

A growing knowledge base highlights the importance of accounting for a variety of social and structural determinants of health (SDOH) when understanding mental and behavioral health among adolescents and young adults. The objective of the current study is to examine patterns of self-reported SDOH deficits and characterize participant health indicators and social identity across classes. Data is from a cross-sectional national study of young people who were recruited through study advertisements on social media and surveyed online. Data were collected between June 2022 and October 2023. Eligibility included (1) ages 13–22 years, (2) living in the United States, and (3) proficient in English. Health indicators included suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, drug overdose, perceived likelihood of living to age 35, non-suicidal self-injury, recent alcohol use, and depression. Five classes of SDOH deficits were identified: (1) Economic Instability, (2) Low Overall SDOH Deficits, (3) High Social SDOH Deficits (adversity and discrimination), (4) High Economic SDOH Deficits, and (5) High Overall SDOH Deficits. Differences across class by health indicators and marginalized identity were found, with high proportions of gender minority and sexual minority youth in both the High Overall SDOH Deficit group and the High Social SDOH Deficit classes. Black youth were more likely to be part of the High Economic SDOH Deficits class. The findings encourage a public health approach that recognizes that improving the health of today’s young people must be connected to policies that reduce poverty, improve neighborhoods, and increase access to basic goods, services, and healthcare. Latvia after the collapse of the Soviet Union regained its independence in 1991. Since then, many political and social reforms have been introduced, minority education among them. Latvia began gradually abandoning the use of minority languages as mediums of instruction and switching to teaching exclusively in Latvian as the sole state language. This caused protests by minority groups, especially by Russians—the largest minority group in Latvia. The article examines 77 online news articles by Latvian, Russian, and European media covering protests against minority education reform in Latvia between 2004 and 2024. Each news article used at least one photograph/video of placard(s) with written information from the protests. The aim of the article is to understand how different media represent the linguistic landscape of protests against minority education reform and what are the main discourses they create and maintain regarding to the linguistic landscape of such protests in Latvia. The description of the linguistic landscapes shows three main trends: (1) only journalists (most often anonymous) describe the written information expressed at the protests, (2) emphasis is on the number of placard holders at the protests, their age and affiliation with minority support organizations and political parties, (3) author(s) quote individual slogans, more often demonstrated from one protest to another, without disclosing in which language they were originally written and what problems (within and behind the language education) they highlight or conceal. The main narratives that are reinforced through the descriptions of the linguistic landscapes included in the articles are two: (1) the Russian community is united and persistent in the fight against the ethnolinguistically unjust education policy pursued by the government, and (2) students, parents, and the Russian community should have the right to choose which educational program to study at school. Rockfall poses a significant hazard in steep terrain, where complex ground interactions cause falling boulders to deviate from straight-line paths. While lateral dispersion is commonly used to describe the distribution of deposited boulders from rockfall events, it does not provide any insight into the complexity of boulder trajectories while in motion. This study introduces tortuosity, a metric typically applied in porous media hydraulic analysis, as a novel approach for quantifying the deviation of rockfall paths from linearity. Using high-resolution UAV-based LiDAR data and RocFall3 (Version 1.017) simulation software, this research investigates the effects of terrain model resolution, boulder shape, and boulder mass on tortuosity values for 20,000 simulated rockfalls on a columnar jointed basalt slope in Boise, ID, USA. Results show that increasing terrain resolution leads to higher tortuosity values due to the increased presence of terrain asperities. Spherical boulders exhibited higher tortuosity than hexagonal ones, and tortuosity decreased with increasing mass for spheres, likely due to their momentum overcoming minor terrain features. Hexagonal boulders, constrained by their angular shape, showed less variability in tortuosity across resolutions and sizes. These findings emphasize the limitations of low-resolution publicly available LiDAR data and highlight the critical influence of accurate boulder representation in simulation models. Full article

Understanding the dynamics of public opinion formation in digital environments is crucial for managing technological communications effectively. This study investigates stance interactions and opinion reversal phenomena in technical discourse through analysis of the Manus AI controversy that generated approximately 36,932 social media interactions during March 2025. Employing an integrated methodology combining Large Language Model (LLM)-enhanced stance detection with agent-based modeling (ABM), we reveal distinctive patterns challenging traditional public opinion theories. Our cross-correlation analysis identifies significant lagged interaction effects between skeptical and supportive stances, demonstrating how critical expressions trigger amplified counter-responses rather than inducing silence. Unlike prior conceptualizations of counter-silencing that emphasize ideological resistance or echo chambers, our notion of the “counter-spiral of silence” specifically highlights lagged emotional responses and reactive amplification triggered by minority expressions in digital technical discourse. We delineate its boundary conditions as arising under high emotional salience, asymmetrical expertise, and platform structures that enable real-time feedback. The agent-based simulation reproduces empirical patterns, revealing how emotional contagion and network clustering mechanisms generate “counter-spiral of silence” phenomena where challenges to dominant positions ultimately strengthen rather than weaken those positions. These findings illuminate how cognitive asymmetries between public expectations and industry realities create distinctive discourse patterns in technical contexts, offering insights for managing technology communication and predicting public response trajectories in rapidly evolving digital environments. Background/Objectives: Colorectal (CRC), breast (BC), and cervical cancer (CC) pose a significant health burden, yet screening programs have been proven to reduce cancer-specific mortality and other non-lethal endpoints. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies can enhance adherence, but effectiveness varies. This scoping review aims to explore mHealth apps for cancer screening developed with community engagement, identifying research approaches and gaps. Methods: A scoping review following PRISMA-ScR guidelines analyzed studies on mHealth apps for cancer screening developed through community engagement. Community engagement was classified per WHO’s definition. Databases were searched using a PCC-based strategy; eligible studies involved app development, excluding hypothetical apps or text messaging-/social media-only interventions. Screening and data extraction were conducted independently. Results: Thirteen articles were included. Findings indicate a growing but limited body of evidence, with most studies focusing on CRC and BC and involving minority populations through mHealth apps. Key engagement phases included research design, CAB establishment, and recruitment, while priority setting was never community-led. The wMammogram, Meet ALEX, and mMammogram apps improved screening knowledge, intention, and participation, while ColorApp enhanced knowledge but not attitudes. Only CBPR-based studies included dissemination, and one involved the CAB in data analysis. Some studies acknowledged community contributions, though details on ColorApp’s engagement were limited. Conclusions: Standardized engagement frameworks combined with mHealth were associated with greater community involvement and may improve equity. No community-designed mHealth app was found for CC screening, despite its relevance. Future research should address gaps in CC programs, prioritize early community involvement, and assess the long-term impact of mHealth interventions. Full article

Dyslipidemia is a well-known risk factor in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. VLDL plays a crucial role in maintaining lipid homeostasis; however, even minor fluctuations in its production, intracellular trafficking, and secretion can contribute to the progression of atherosclerosis. Fenofibrate is an FDA-approved drug that effectively lowers plasma triglycerides and VLDL-associated cholesterol while simultaneously increasing HDL levels. Although fenofibrate is a known PPARα agonist with several proposed mechanisms for its lipid-altering effects, its impact on the intracellular trafficking of VLDL has not yet been investigated. We observed that treatment of HepG2 cells with 50 µM of fenofibrate resulted in a significant reduction in VLDL secretion, as evidenced by a significant decrease in the secretion of 3H-labeled TAG, fluorescent TAG, and ApoB100 protein into the media. Using confocal microscopy to monitor VLDL intracellular trafficking, we observed a distinct change in VLDL triglyceride localization, suggesting delayed transport through the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi. An immunoblot analysis revealed a decrease in Sar1B protein expression, a key regulator of COPII protein recruitment, which is essential for VTV formation and intracellular VLDL trafficking, the rate-limiting step in VLDL secretion. Our data reveal a novel mechanism by which fenofibrate alters the lipid profile by interfering with intracellular VLDL trafficking in hepatocytes. Full article

In the digital age, consumer complaints have become significant indicators of operational vulnerabilities, with social media amplifying their impact. Mishandling such complaints has the potential to escalate minor issues into full-scale organizational crises, damaging brand reputation and eroding consumer trust. This study employs a case study approach to examine the Patiswiss Chocolate crisis, where a single consumer complaint led to widespread backlash, executive resignation, and boycotts. The crisis is analyzed through three key frameworks of analysis: communication, marketing, and ethics, offering a comprehensive understanding of its evolution. The findings reveal that defensive or dismissive responses exacerbate reputational damage, triggering the Streisand effect, where attempts to suppress criticism amplify its spread. Ethical concerns, including misleading corporate claims and governance issues, intensified consumer backlash. From a marketing perspective, brand trust declined as consumer activism influenced purchasing behavior and retailer decisions. This study emphasizes that organizations must adopt strategic, ethical, and consumer-centric approaches to crisis management to maintain long-term brand resilience. Full article

Background/Objectives: Sex and gender minorities (SGMs) include individuals who do not comply with sexual binarism and heteronormative standards. They represent a high-risk population for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection and potential target of an HPV vaccine offer. This study investigates SGMs’ knowledge, awareness and vaccination attitude regarding HPV. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study. The target population was represented by SGMs living in Italy and using social media platforms of SGM rights associations. The study questionnaire was based on the literature and disseminated via said associations’ social media. It included items regarding knowledge and awareness, expressed as seven-point Likert scales, and questions about personal information, sexual anamnesis and vaccination attitude. Data collection started on 1 November 2023 and ended on 8 December 2023. Results: The questionnaire was answered by 177 people. Knowledge and awareness scores were generally high (45.98 ± 6.14 and 34.21 ± 4.62, respectively). Regarding attitude, 31.64% of participants reported being hesitant or refusing HPV vaccination, mainly due to prohibitive costs or low perception of the vaccine’s utility. Higher education was associated with a higher knowledge score (coeff.: 2.25; 95%CI: 0.69–3.82); likewise, a history of HPV-related lesions positively influenced the score (coeff.: 2.47; 95%CI: 0.20–4.75). The awareness score was only increased by a greater number of sexual partners (coeff.: 0.06; 95%CI: 0.01–0.11). Older age was proven to significantly increase the odd of vaccine hesitancy (OR: 1.07; 95%CI: 1.02–1.12). Conclusions: Despite a good level of knowledge and awareness, the study population manifested significant barriers to vaccination. The main ones were related to the vaccine’s cost and lack of medical information. Future efforts should focus on reinforcing vaccine offers to SGMs. Full article

Journalists have incorporated social networks into their work as a standard tool, enhancing their ability to produce and disseminate information and making it easier for them to connect more directly with their audiences. However, this greater presence in the digital public sphere has also increased their exposure to harassment and hate speech, particularly in the case of women journalists. This study analyzes the presence of harassment and hate speech in responses (n = 60,684) to messages that 200 journalists and media outlets posted on X (formerly Twitter) accounts during the days immediately preceding and following the July 23 (23-J) general elections held in Spain in 2023. The results indicate that the most common forms of harassment were insults and political hate, which were more frequently aimed at personal accounts than institutional ones, highlighting the significant role of political polarization—particularly during election periods—in shaping the hostility that journalists face. Moreover, although, generally speaking, the total number of harassing messages was similar for men and women, it was found that a greater number of sexist messages were aimed at women journalists, and an ideological dimension was identified in the hate speech that extremists or right-wing populists directed at them. This study corroborates that this is a minor but systemic issue, particularly from a political and gender perspective. To counteract this, the media must develop proactive policies and protective actions extending even to the individual level, where this issue usually applies. Full article

The ozonation of norfloxacin (NOF), a widely used fluoroquinolone antibiotic, in the presence of Na+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ cations and their montmorillonite-supported counterparts was investigated. The NOF degradation and the toxicity of the ozonized mixtures towards an aquatic organism (Lemna minor) were evaluated in terms of changes in its frond number, chlorophyll content, photosynthesis efficacy, and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The evolution over time of the NOF degradation grade and the toxicity were discussed in terms of i. the observed changes in the interactions of the cation and clay catalyst with NOF molecules; ii. the pH decay, during ozonation. Ion-exchange and Lewis acid–base interactions appear to govern NOF adsorption and clay catalyst dispersion in correlation with the progressive formation of acidic species in the aqueous media. These findings reveal promising prospects for tailoring optimum oxidative water treatments with minimum toxicity and for predicting their environmental impacts on aquatic media. Full article

The Impact of ESG Practices on the Valuation of Related Party M&A Assets: The Moderating Role of Digital Economy

The overvaluation of merger and acquisition (M&A) assets can lead to a decline in the performance of listed firms, an increase in the risk of goodwill impairment, and harm to the rights of minority shareholders, as well as to the sustainable development of firms. Based on stakeholder theory, this article constructs models to examine the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices on the valuation of related party M&A assets and conducts an empirical analysis. We find that ESG practices significantly inhibit the overvaluation of related party M&A assets, and the digital economy can enhance this negative relationship. Mechanism analysis shows that this negative relationship is mediated through setting up stock performance compensation, reducing performance commitment growth rate, selecting reputable asset appraisal institutions and financial advisors, increasing analyst following and social media discussions, and reducing agency costs. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the inhibitory effect of ESG practices on the overvaluation of related party M&A assets is more obvious in non-horizontal M&A and non-state-owned enterprises. Furthermore, ESG practices can alleviate the stock price crash risk by reducing the overvaluation of related party M&A assets. The research conclusions provide a reference for ESG practices to better serve M&A activities and alleviate asset overvaluation in the digital economy era. Full article
