Amniotic membranes are extensively used in feline corneal repair; however, challenges such as rapid degradation and difficulties with preservation across species limit their clinical use. The aim of this study was to develop a feline amniotic membrane-based graft with stem cell activity and provide experimental evidence for its potential use as a corneal epithelial transplant material in cats. FLSCs were first treated with different concentrations of epidermal growth factor (EGF), and 0.5 mg/L EGF was identified as the optimal concentration for promoting cellular activity. Under this condition, FLSCs exhibited enhanced proliferation and wound closure ability, with complete scratch closure observed approximately 24 h earlier than that in the control group. Growth curve analysis showed that FLSCs maintained stable proliferation characteristics, with a calculated population doubling time of approximately 25.2 h. Subsequently, FLSCs were seeded onto the lyophilized feline amniotic membrane scaffold. Light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy demonstrated that FLSCs adhered to and proliferated on the scaffold, forming cell–matrix interaction structures, including hemidesmosome-like junctions. Immunofluorescence staining confirmed the expression of stem cell-associated markers ABCG2 and p63 after scaffold culture. These findings demonstrate the successful fabrication of a feline FLSC-loaded amniotic membrane construct in which FLSCs retained the expression of the examined limbal/stem cell-associated markers after scaffold culture. The successfully constructed FLSC-loaded feline amniotic membrane graft demonstrated considerable potential as a novel bioengineered tissue substitute for corneal surface transplantation in clinical applications. Canopy 3D architecture is a critical determinant of light interception, photosynthetic efficiency, and final yield in cotton, yet its rapid and accurate characterisation remains challenging in field conditions. To achieve efficient, non-destructive, and quantitative monitoring of the canopy structure of field-grown cotton, this study proposes a 3D structure-based technology stack for high-efficiency, low-cost, and high-precision phenotyping extraction. This stack directly addresses the technical bottlenecks of traditional 3D data acquisition, namely high cost, long processing time, and low operational efficiency, which have hindered large-scale application. We developed a pipeline that integrates a fast reconstruction algorithm with a scale-recovery mechanism using ground control points (GCPs), enabling the generation of true-scale 3D point clouds from UAV aerial images in a cost- and time-effective manner. Using only 141 UAV images and with a reconstruction time of approximately 20 min, we efficiently reconstructed high-quality, scale-accurate point clouds of two 5.5 m × 5.5 m cotton plots, significantly outperforming SfM-MVS and Instant-NGP in terms of both reconstruction efficiency and point cloud completeness. This method, whose current validation is confined to a single season, one growth stage, and two experimental plots, not only achieves a breakthrough by using fewer input images with high efficiency, but also ensures point cloud accuracy and completeness, showing strong potential for rapid field monitoring and real-time management. Based on the high-quality reconstructed point clouds, we further quantitatively evaluated canopy characteristics at harvest, analyzing the coefficient of variation of canopy height, porosity distribution, and canopy volume fraction. The core shortcomings and optimization strategies for the existing canopy structure were identified, providing scientific data support and practical technical references for precision cultivation management and mechanization-compatible planting in cotton. Manual fruit thinning is labor-intensive and inefficient, making the development of intelligent visual detection systems a crucial approach for improving the quality and production efficiency of the pear industry. However, in natural orchard environments, young pear fruits are small in size with slender fruit stalks, and their texture and color characteristics are highly similar to those of tender branches. Furthermore, variations in illumination and occlusions caused by branches and leaves make it difficult for existing detection models to simultaneously and accurately identify fruits and fruit stalks, limiting their application in automated thinning equipment. In this study, Yuluxiang pear was selected as the research object, and image data were collected under diverse field conditions, including forward-lighting, backlighting, close-range shooting, long-range shooting and fruit overlapping. A dedicated dataset containing 3057 images was established. Based on the RT-DETR-R18 network, a lightweight and high-precision fruit–stalk synchronous detection model was proposed. Specifically, the backbone network was reconstructed by integrating GCConv with C2f modules to enhance global feature extraction for slender fruit stalks. The bottleneck structure was optimized using GCConvC3 to reduce feature degradation under occlusion conditions, and an additional 4× down-sampling P2 detection head was introduced to improve the detection capability for small targets. To fully validate the model performance and stability, three types of experiments were conducted in this study: ablation experiments, repeated experiments with different random seeds, and comparative experiments. Ablation experiments verified the cumulative performance improvements brought by the introduced modules. Repeated experiments with different random seeds were performed to explore training randomness-induced performance fluctuations, and the results demonstrated that the proposed model maintains stable overall detection accuracy with minor metric fluctuations. Comparative experiments demonstrated that the proposed model achieved a compact parameter size of only 15.97 M, with a precision of 95.0% for young pear fruit detection and an mAP50 of 83.0% for fruit stalk detection, outperforming all comparative models in overall mAP50. The training convergence curves and Grad-CAM++ visualization results further confirmed the stable optimization process and enhanced feature attention capability of the proposed model. By achieving a favorable balance between detection accuracy and model lightweightness, this approach provides effective technical support for the development of intelligent fruit thinning equipment and vision-based systems for smart pear orchards. With increasing interest in nature-based and biophilic built environments, understanding how users perceive natural characteristics embedded in sports venues and how these perceptions are associated with psychological experiences and behavioural intentions has become an important research topic. However, limited studies have examined the psychological mechanisms through which perceived nature-based characteristics of sports venue design are related to users’ revisit intention. Based on restorative environment theory and place attachment theory, this study investigates the relationship between nature-based sports venue design and revisit intention from a user-perceived built environment perspective, with a particular focus on the mediating roles of perceived restorativeness and place attachment. A questionnaire survey was conducted among university students in Shandong Province, China, and 623 valid responses were obtained. Structural equation modelling and bootstrap analysis were employed to examine the proposed relationships. The results showed that perceived nature-based sports venue design characteristics were positively associated with revisit intention, perceived restorativeness, and place attachment. Perceived restorativeness was positively associated with both place attachment and revisit intention, while place attachment was positively associated with revisit intention. Furthermore, mediation analysis indicated that perceived restorativeness and place attachment separately mediated the relationship between perceived nature-based sports venue design characteristics and revisit intention, and together formed a sequential mediation pathway. These findings suggest that nature-based characteristics embedded within sports venues may support users’ restorative experiences and emotional connections with places, which are associated with continued engagement with sports spaces. This study provides user-centred evidence for built environment design and sports venue planning by highlighting the potential importance of natural lighting, spatial openness, visual connections with nature, and restorative spatial experiences. This study reports the synthesis and comprehensive characterization of a novel 5% cadmium-doped cerium oxide/reduced graphene oxide (5% Cd-CeO2/rGO) nanocomposite for the enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO). The nanocomposite was prepared using a simple co-precipitation method followed by thermal reduction, which integrates the excellent electron-transport properties of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with the oxygen-vacancy-rich characteristics of Cd-doped CeO2, resulting in improved photocatalytic performance. The successful synthesis of the nanocomposite and the direct interaction between the rGO sheets and ultrafine CeO2 nanoparticles were verified through structural and morphological analyses using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). XPS results indicated an increase in the Ce3+ concentration and oxygen vacancy density after Cd doping and rGO incorporation, both of which play a crucial role in enhancing photocatalytic activity. Under visible-light irradiation, the 5% Cd-CeO2/rGO nanocomposite exhibited substantially higher photocatalytic activity and methyl orange (MO) degradation efficiency than pristine CeO2 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The improved photocatalytic performance demonstrates the beneficial role of combining metal-ion doping with conductive carbon supports to facilitate charge separation and electron transport in semiconductor photocatalysts. The developed nanocomposite also shows promising potential for the design of next-generation semiconductor-based materials for photocatalytic, energy conversion, and optoelectronic applications. The use of crossbreeding between dairy and beef breeds has been adopted as a strategy to add value to male calves from dairy systems, improve productive efficiency, and reduce economic and animal welfare concerns. This study evaluated the effects of Holstein × Angus crossbreeding on productive performance, metabolism, ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, meat quality, and fatty acid profile during the feedlot finishing phase. Twenty-four uncastrated male cattle (8 Holstein, 8 Angus, and 8 crossbreds) were confined for 130 days and fed an isoenergetic and isonitrogenous diet. No significant differences were observed among breeds for weight gain, dry matter intake, feed efficiency, or nutrient digestibility (p > 0.05). However, Angus and crossbred cattle showed higher carcass yield compared to Holstein cattle (p ≤ 0.05). Angus and crossbred animals presented higher concentrations of total volatile fatty acids, acetate, and propionate in the rumen (p ≤ 0.05). Breed differences were also observed in erythrocyte indices and serum urea concentrations (p ≤ 0.05). Meat from crossbred animals showed superior quality attributes compared to Holstein, including lower ultimate pH, higher lightness, greater water-holding capacity, and an intermediate lipid profile between the parental breeds (p ≤ 0.05). It is concluded that Holstein × Angus crossbreeding improves carcass yield, ruminal fermentation efficiency, and meat quality, without compromising productive performance, representing a viable strategy for adding value to male calves from dairy herds under tropical production conditions. BiOF has emerged as a promising functional material for photocatalysis, electrochemical energy storage, and ion adsorption due to its unique layered structure, excellent chemical stability, and tunable electronic properties. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations provide in-depth theoretical insights into the crystal structure, intrinsic defects, doping modification, and heterostructure construction of BiOF. This review systematically summarizes the recent DFT research progress of BiOF systems. Computational results reveal the lattice characteristics, bandgap features, built-in electric field distribution and facet anisotropy of BiOF, and highlight the critical influence of Bi semicore states on structural relaxation and electronic modulation. Defect engineering of bismuth and oxygen vacancies can effectively optimize band structure, accelerate carrier separation and improve catalytic performance. Cation and anion doping introduce impurity energy levels to narrow the bandgap and broaden the visible-light response range. Various BiOF-based heterostructures with different band alignment modes are analyzed, and the interfacial built-in electric field dominates charge separation, while excessive formation energy and unfavorable charge transfer still restrict material optimization. This work provides a systematic theoretical reference for the rational design and performance improvement of high-efficiency BiOF-based materials. Full article

Yiyuan jade, a specific gem-quality jade variety in the East Qinling Orogen, occurs as lenticular and vein-shaped bodies hosted within the dolomite and biotite-quartz marble of the Neoproterozoic Meiyaogou Formation. Based on detailed petrological and mineralogical characterization, three subtypes are defined: tremolite jade (nephrite), serpentine jade (a green variety of serpentine group minerals that resembles true jade), and their transitional varieties. Among these, tremolite jade is predominantly white, moon-white, and light green, whereas serpentine jade (gem-quality serpentine) exhibits dark green, yellow-green, and yellow coloration. Comprehensive mineral composition analyses are presented, encompassing amphibole, serpentine, carbonate minerals, and titanite in metagabbro, aiming to constrain the physicochemical conditions and genetic model of these jades. We propose that tremolite jade and serpentine jade are probably formed simultaneously via metasomatic processes, primarily governed by variations in fluid volume and the activities of SiO2 and CO2. The serpentine jade is interpreted as serpentinized marble, within which local serpentine aggregation forms serpentine jade akin to Lantian jade in the western East Qinling region. The tremolite jade closely resembles Hetian tremolite jade within geochemical and mineralogical characteristics but differs significantly from serpentine-type tremolite jade associated with ultramafic rocks, thereby confirming its classification as dolomite-type jade. Application of the Ti-in-tremolite geothermometer yields a formation temperature exceeding 400 °C. Integrated with regional geochronological constraints, our findings link the formation of Yiyuan tremolite jade and serpentine jade to tectonic activity driven by the Late Devonian subduction of the Erlangping back-arc basin. This study not only enhances the current understanding of jade mineralization within collisional orogenic settings but also establishes a robust foundation for future exploration in the East Qinling Orogen. The Dafosi well field is a typical Huang-Long Jurassic low-rank coalbed methane (CBM) field. Clarifying its CBM geochemical characteristics and the mechanisms of its formation is of significant importance for deepening the understanding of the formation mechanisms of low-rank CBM in China and for the scientific assessment of its resource potential. A total of eight gas emission samples from six coalbed methane wells in the Dafosi coalfield were collected, along with 22 coal samples from the 4# coal seam. Detailed analyses of microscopic coal petrographic components, gas chemical compositions, and carbon isotopes were performed. By integrating data from the 20 relevant literature sources on coalbed gas composition and isotopic characteristics within the study area, a comprehensive dataset comprising 28 sets was utilized to examine the carbon isotope characteristics and genesis types of both CH4 and CO2 in the coalbeds, as well as elucidate the mechanism behind CH4 carbon isotope depletion. The findings indicate that in the primary 4# coal seam’s microscopic petrographic composition, the organic matter content is considerably higher, averaging 93.2%. Among these, the inertinite group is dominant, averaging 68.2%; the vitrinite group is the next most abundant, averaging 22.8%. The CBM composition is predominantly CH4, with concentrations varying from 68.753% to 98.006%, averaging 80.276%. N2 concentrations range from 1.259% to 29.926%, averaging 17.476%. CO2 concentrations vary from 0.04% to 2.380%, averaging 1.032%. The average concentration of heavier hydrocarbons C2 and above is less than 0.078%, indicative of typical dry gas characteristics, C1/C1~n > 0.999. The concentration of CH4 and N2 was negatively correlated. δ13C1 ranges from −87.200‰ to −62.400‰, averaging −75.802‰. CH4 is composed of secondary biogenic gas with dominant content and a small amount of thermogenic gas. δ13CCO2 ranges from −41.693‰ to −7.065‰, averaging −20.016‰. CO2 is an organic gas, mainly derived from thermal degradation and microbial degradation of organic matter. The mechanism responsible for the light carbon isotopic composition of δ13C1 lies in the fact that most of CH4 is produced by CO2 reduction, and a small amount is produced by acetic acid fermentation. In the gas generation process of these two pathways, biogenic methane will eventually enrich light carbon isotopes, resulting in light δ13C1. Full article

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is an infiltrative cardiomyopathy caused by extracellular deposition of misfolded proteins, most commonly immunoglobulin light chains (AL) or transthyretin (ATTR). Once considered a rare disease, CA is increasingly recognised due to improved diagnostic strategies and the availability of disease-modifying therapies. Early diagnosis is crucial, as treatment efficacy and clinical outcomes are strongly influenced by the stage of cardiac involvement. Multimodality cardiac imaging plays a central role in the diagnostic pathway, risk stratification, and evaluation of therapeutic response in CA. Echocardiography represents the first-line imaging modality and is essential for raising clinical suspicion through the identification of characteristic structural and functional abnormalities, including ventricular wall thickening, diastolic dysfunction, and distinctive strain patterns. Bone scintigraphy has revolutionised the non-invasive diagnosis of ATTR-CA, allowing accurate identification of transthyretin-related disease in the absence of monoclonal gammopathy, which needs to be excluded via serum and urinary immunofixation. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance provides advanced tissue characterisation through late gadolinium enhancement and quantitative mapping techniques, enabling detection of early myocardial involvement and robust prognostic stratification. Emerging imaging modalities, including dual-energy (spectral) computed tomography and positron emission tomography tracers, show promise in myocardial amyloid quantification and subtype differentiation, although their role is still evolving. Integration of imaging findings with clinical and laboratory parameters allows comprehensive disease assessment, facilitating early diagnosis, guiding therapeutic decisions, and improving risk stratification. This review summarises the current role of multimodality imaging in CA, highlighting its contribution from early detection to prognostic evaluation and monitoring of treatment efficacy, with particular emphasis on the emerging role of quantitative imaging in monitoring treatment response. Methanol is a critical molecular marker for the early aging of oil-paper insulation, and its rapid detection is highly valuable for insulation condition assessment and the fault warning of power transformers. Widely used chromatographic methods require sophisticated pretreatment workflow and are not suitable for in situ monitoring. Non-destructive spectroscopic methods remain challenging due to the intrinsically small cross section of trace molecules in complex liquid environments. The rapid, direct detection of trace methanol in an oil mixture has yet to be demonstrated. In this study, a high-performance Raman-enhancing substrate was developed through hierarchical microstructure regulation, combining microscale light-trapping structures and nanoscale field-confinement sites to sense the weak Raman response of methanol in transformer oil. Direct detection of ppm-level methanol in the oil matrix was achieved, without additional adsorption enrichment or other complicated pretreatment procedures. The characteristic Raman band of methanol in transformer oil was identified, and a quantitative sensing method was established. Furthermore, the intrinsic temperature-dependent Raman response of methanol was investigated to evaluate the stability of its characteristic fingerprint bands over a broad temperature range. This work demonstrates a rapid, sensitive, and pretreatment-free spectroscopic strategy for trace methanol detection in complex oil matrices, and also sheds light on the high-sensitivity detection of small molecular markers in complex liquid environments. A reliable sign of the absence of a document presentation attack, when a print copy is presented instead of the original document, is the presence of such security features as OVDs (Optical Variable Devices), for example, holograms. To check the presence of holograms, it is sufficient to use the visible light and a series of document images captured with a varying angle of incidence and reflection of light. It can be achieved either by changing the position of the document or by changing the position of the illumination source. This work proposes a method for detecting holograms on identity documents using a scanner with controlled illumination. The method is based on obtaining a series of document images in various illumination modes and identifying features characteristic of holograms. To test the method, a dataset MIDV-Holo-Scan was collected by scanning physical documents used in the creation of the open dataset MIDV-Holo. It includes both documents with holograms, accepted in this work as originals, and documents without holograms, simulating an attack on document presentation. The proposed method for detecting attacks on document presentation achieves a quality of Accuracy = 100%, which surpasses the quality of the baseline method published with the MIDV-Holo dataset. To mitigate high-temperature VOC emissions and reduce construction temperatures in recycled asphalt, a USP warm mix additive was introduced into waste soybean oil (WSO) recycled asphalt. This study systematically investigates the effects of USP content (1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%) and construction temperature (140 °C and 160 °C) on VOCs emission characteristics, inhibition mechanisms, and rheological performance. The results show that USP reduces total VOC emissions, with the key inhibition effect achieved at 5% USP. At 160 °C, the VOCs inhibition rate reached 39.5% at 5% USP, while at 140 °C it increased to 80.8%; the findings suggest that lower temperatures enhance the inhibitory effect. The results show USP cuts emissions via physical mechanisms. However, the significant FTIR and DSC analyses suggest that VOC reduction appears to be primarily governed by physical mechanisms, including phase-change cooling, physical encapsulation, and migration retardation, without altering the chemical structure of asphalt. Moreover, the important rheological results indicate that although USP slightly decreases the high-temperature complex modulus and rutting factor, the evidence demonstrates that it improves the percent recovery (R0.1 from 53% to 66%; R3.2 from 21% to 40%) and low-temperature crack resistance through decreased stiffness S and increased m-value. In light of these significant findings, the study demonstrates that USP exhibits a multi-performance balance, appearing to reduce VOC emissions and improve workability while moderately weakening high-temperature deformation resistance. Notwithstanding the reduced high-temperature resistance, the key evidence could demonstrate that USP enhances elastic recovery and low-temperature performance in the results. The optimal USP content appears to be 5%, providing the critical compromise between emission reduction and pavement performance for WSO recycled asphalt. Full article

Psychological distress is associated with problematic online shopping, but the relative and independent associations of depression, anxiety, and stress require careful evaluation without causal interpretation. This study examined their associations with continuous Online Shopping Addiction Scale (OSAS) scores after accounting for sociodemographic characteristics and online shopping frequency. A cross-sectional convenience sample included 438 adults in Türkiye (54.0% female among respondents reporting gender; mean age = 33.79, SD = 10.24); a total of 317 participated online and 121 completed printed questionnaires face to face. Pearson correlations were estimated in the full sample. Hierarchical regressions used a common complete-case sample (n = 375). Because residual diagnostics indicated heteroscedasticity and tail departures, HC3 robust standard errors and 95% confidence intervals were reported. Anxiety, depression, and stress showed statistically significant but modest correlations with OSAS total scores (r = 0.34, 0.32, and 0.27, respectively; all p < 0.001). In separate adjusted models, anxiety (ΔR2 = 0.070; β = 0.283), depression (ΔR2 = 0.068; β = 0.276), and stress (ΔR2 = 0.042; β = 0.217) each increased explained variance (all p < 0.001). In the combined model, the DASS-21 block added ΔR2 = 0.091; anxiety (β = 0.206, p = 0.002) and depression (β = 0.200, p = 0.001) had comparable independent associations, whereas stress did not (β = −0.050, p = 0.473). Online shopping frequency had the largest standardized coefficient among concurrent covariates (β = 0.280), but it is conceptually proximal to the OSAS outcome. The combined model explained 31.6% of the variance (adjusted R2 = 0.291). Recruitment-mode comparisons were small and nonsignificant after Holm correction. Depression and anxiety were independently associated with higher OSAS scores, while most outcome variance remained unexplained. The findings do not establish temporal prediction, causation, or clinical diagnosis and should be interpreted in light of self-report measurement, construct overlap, residual confounding, and the digitally engaged convenience sample. Post-fire plantations play a crucial role in recovering carbon stocks, yet how carbon is partitioned among vegetation, litter, and soil pools during stand growth dynamics remains insufficiently resolved for Quercus acutissima plantations. Forest ecosystems play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle. This study quantified carbon-storage allocation and identified stand characteristics and soil factors associated with carbon recovery in fire-affected Q. acutissima plantations. Using a chronosequence design, we compared five stand-age classes (4, 10, 25, 45, and 50 years) on Huangfu Mountain, China, and measured carbon stocks in tree organs, understory vegetation, litter, and the 0–30 cm soil layer. Ecosystem carbon stock increased from 31.64 t ha−1 in 4-year-old stands to 230.66 t ha−1 in 50-year-old stands, representing a 629% increase. Soil was the dominant carbon pool, with 0–30 cm soil carbon rising from 25.32 to 126.56 t ha−1 (a 400% increase). The contribution of soil carbon to total ecosystem storage declined from approximately 80% in 4-year-old stands to 55% in 50-year-old stands, indicating a shift in allocation toward vegetation biomass over time. Carbon accumulation was primarily concentrated in the 0–10 cm layer. Tree basal area was significantly associated with ecosystem carbon stocks, identified as a key structural factor linked to carbon accumulation through potential direct and indirect pathways involving light availability and soil carbon. Soil organic matter and nitrogen were also positively correlated with carbon accumulation. These findings suggest that stand development and topsoil carbon formation are closely linked to post-fire carbon recovery processes. Future management measures should optimize stand density, maintain soil fertility, and protect surface carbon to enhance long-term carbon sequestration. Full article
