Educational assessment relies on well-constructed test items to measure student learning accurately, yet traditional item development is time-consuming and demands specialized psychometric expertise. Automatic item generation (AIG) offers template-based scalability, and recent large language model (LLM) advances promise to democratize item creation. However, fully automated approaches risk introducing factual errors, bias, and uneven difficulty. To address these challenges, we propose and evaluate a hybrid human-in-the-loop (HITL) framework for AIG that combines psychometric rigor with the linguistic flexibility of LLMs. In a Spring 2025 case study at Franklin University Switzerland, the instructor collaborated with ChatGPT (o4-mini-high) to generate parallel exam variants for two undergraduate business courses: Quantitative Reasoning and Data Mining. The instructor began by defining “radical” and “incidental” parameters to guide the model. Through iterative cycles of prompt, review, and refinement, the instructor validated content accuracy, calibrated difficulty, and mitigated bias. All interactions (including prompt templates, AI outputs, and human edits) were systematically documented, creating a transparent audit trail. Our findings demonstrate that a HITL approach to AIG can produce diverse, psychometrically equivalent exam forms with reduced development time, while preserving item validity and fairness, and potentially reducing cheating. This offers a replicable pathway for harnessing LLMs in educational measurement without sacrificing quality, equity, or accountability. Full article

The application of artificial intelligence has significantly advanced interactive storytelling. However, current research has predominantly concentrated on the content generation capabilities of AI, primarily following a one-way ‘input-direct generation’ model. This has led to limited practicality in AI story writing, mainly due to the absence of investigations into user-driven creative processes. Consequently, users often perceive AI-generated suggestions as unhelpful and unsatisfactory. This study introduces a novel creative tool named Story Forge, which incorporates a card-based interactive narrative approach. By utilizing interactive story element cards, the tool facilitates the integration of narrative components with artificial intelligence-generated content to establish an interactive story writing framework. To evaluate the efficacy of Story Forge, two tests were conducted with a focus on user engagement, decision-making, narrative outcomes, the replay value of meta-narratives, and their impact on the users’ emotions and self-reflection. In the comparative assessment, the participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group, in which they would use either a web-based AI story tool or Story Forge for story creation. Statistical analyses, including independent-sample t-tests, p-values, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d), were employed to validate the effectiveness of the framework design. The findings suggest that Story Forge enhances users’ intuitive creativity, real-time story development, and emotional expression while empowering their creative autonomy. Full article

How to promote sustainable development and deal with the actual development demands in economic transformation through land-use planning is crucial for local governments. The urban sustainable development mainly relies on creativity and talents in the digital era, and talents are increasingly attracted by local people-oriented land use. However, the current planning ideology remains at meeting corporate and people’s basic needs rather than specific needs of talents, especially the increasingly emerging digital creatives. To promote the talent agglomeration and sustainable development through land planning, this paper uses micro-celebrities on Bilibili, an influential creative content creation platform among young people in China, as an example to study the geographical distribution of digital creative talents and its relationship with urban amenities by constructing an index system of urban amenities, comprising natural, leisure, infrastructure, and social and institutional amenities. The concept of borrowed amenities is introduced to examine the effects of amenities of surrounding cities. This study demonstrates that micro-celebrities show a stronger preference for amenities compared with other skilled talents. Meanwhile, social and institutional amenities are most crucial. Furthermore, urban leisure represented by green spaces and consumption spaces is also attractive. At the regional scale, with prefecture-level cities as units, the local talents agglomeration is also influenced by the borrowed amenities in the context of regional integration. It indicates that the local land use should consider the characteristics of the surrounding cities. This study provides strategic inspiration that a happy and sustainable city should first be people-oriented and provide sufficient space for consumption, entertainment, and interaction. Full article

A persistent challenge in training future philology educators is engaging students in deep textual analysis across historical periods—especially in large classes where limited resources, feedback, and assessment tools hinder the teaching of complex linguistic and contextual features. These constraints often lead to superficial learning, decreased motivation, and inequitable outcomes, particularly when traditional methods lack interactive and scalable support. As digital technologies evolve, there is increasing interest in how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can address such instructional gaps. This study explores the potential of conversational AI chatbots to provide scalable, pedagogically grounded support in philology education. Using a mixed-methods case study, twenty-six (n = 26) undergraduate students completed structured tasks using one of three AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Gemini, or DeepSeek). Quantitative and qualitative data were collected via usability scales, AI literacy surveys, and semi-structured interviews. The results showed strong usability across all platforms, with DeepSeek rated highest in intuitiveness. Students reported confidence in using AI for efficiency and decision-making but desired greater support in evaluating multiple AI-generated outputs. The AI-enhanced environment promoted motivation, autonomy, and conceptual understanding, despite some onboarding and clarity challenges. Implications include reducing instructor workload, enhancing student-centered learning, and informing curriculum development in philology, particularly for instructional designers and educational technologists. The aim of the work is to analyze the survival strategy of Taxus baccata L., one of the promising plants for landscaping and the creation of woodlands, in the changing ecological conditions of the steppe zone of the Donetsk ridge. In order to achieve this goal, we used biomechanics methods, which help to understand the relationship between the physical and mechanical properties of living tissues and the overall stability of trees during interactions with environmental factors such as temperature, snow and ice storms, cyclic freeze–thaw processes, wind loads, and others. The work was based both on experimental studies on the estimation of the tissue elasticity modulus in response to temperature changes, the mechanical stability of plants, the field collection of materials, and studies on the modeling of forest stand conditions of English yew. As a result of the conducted experiments, it was established for the first time that at the absolute wood moisture content of 77 ± 5.1%, the density of wood tissues in the conditions of Donetsk is 907 ± 43 kg m−3. The modulus of elasticity of living tissues depending on the temperature factor varied in the following range: 8.8 ± 0.31 GN m−2 (T = 288 K), 11.5 ± 0.55 GN m−2 (T = 255 K) and 6.9 ± 0.47 GN m−2 (t = 308 K). It was revealed that during the local thawing of skeletal branches and tables, the mechanical resistance of T. baccata is reduced by 20–22% and this critically affects the overall plant resistance. It was established for the first time that T. baccata in the conditions of the steppe zone has an adaptive strategy of preserving the integrity of the organism under the action of environmental factors with limited loads. The secret lies in the formation of the shape memory effect, under the influence of critical loads. The plant, thus, chooses not migration, not death, but adaptation to changes in environmental conditions, which can become a serious factor in the use of T. baccata in the landscaping of urban areas and the creation of artificial forests. As urbanization has accelerated, rail transit has evolved from being a mere means of transportation to a public area that houses the city’s cultural memory and serves as a crucial portal for the public to understand the culture of the city. As an urban public space with huge passenger flow, the metro (or subway) cultural space has also become a public cultural space, serving communal welfare and representing the image of the city. It is currently attracting more and more attention from the academic community. Wuhan, located in central China, has many subway lines and its engineering construction has set several national firsts, which is a typical sample of urban subway development in China. In this study, we use Python 3.13.0 crawler technology to capture the public’s comments on cultural space of Wuhan metro in social media and adopt SnowNLP sentiment score and LDA thematic clustering analysis to explore the overall quality, distinct characteristics, and deficiencies of Wuhan metro cultural space construction, and propose targeted design optimization strategies based on this study. The main findings are as follows: (1) The metro cultural space is an important window for the public to perceive the city culture, and the public in general shows positive perception of emotions: among the 16,316 data samples, 47.7% are positive comments, 17.8% are neutral comments, and 34.5% are negative comments. (2) Based on the frequency of content in the sample data for metro station exit and entrance space, metro train space, metro concourse and platform space, they are ranked as weak cultural spaces (18%), medium cultural spaces (33%), and strong cultural spaces (49%) in terms of the public’s perception of urban culture. (3) At present, there are certain deficiencies in Wuhan metro cultural space: the circulation paths in concourses and platforms are overly dominant, leaving little space for rest or interaction; the cultural symbols of metro train space are fragmented; the way of articulation between cultural and functional space in the metro station exit and entrance space is weak, and the space is single in form. (4) Wuhan metro cultural space needs to be based on locality landscape expression, functional zoning reorganization, innovative scene creation to optimize the visual symbol system and behavioral symbol system in the space, to establish a good image of the space, and to strengthen the public’s cultural identity and emotional resonance. The rapid evolution of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has significantly transformed educational practices, necessitating the integration of advanced technologies into higher education to address contemporary sustainability challenges. This study explores the integration of interactive metaverse environments and generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in promoting the green digital economy and developing e-entrepreneurship skills among graduate students. Grounded in a quasi-experimental design, the research was conducted with a sample of 25 postgraduate students enrolled in the “Computers in Education” course at King Khalid University. A 3D immersive learning environment (FrameVR) was combined with GAI platforms (ChatGPT version 4.0, Elai.io version 2.5, Tome version 1.3) to create an innovative educational experience. Data were collected using validated instruments, including the Green Digital Economy Scale, the e-Entrepreneurship Scale, and a digital product evaluation rubric. The findings revealed statistically significant improvements in students’ awareness of green digital concepts, entrepreneurial competencies, and their ability to produce sustainable digital products. The study highlights the potential of immersive virtual learning environments and AI-driven content creation tools in enhancing digital literacy and sustainability-oriented innovation. It also underscores the urgent need to update educational strategies and curricula to prepare future professionals capable of navigating and shaping green digital economies. This research provides a practical and replicable model for universities seeking to embed sustainability through emerging technologies, supporting broader goals such as SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Catechol-like compounds are found throughout biology in the form of both redox-active and metal-binding functional groups. Within the marine environment, catechol groups are known to coordinate strongly with vanadate and ferric ions, and this binding is regulated through redox mechanisms. While investigating marine melanin formation in vitro, we found that DOPA, a catechol-containing amino acid, reacts with both metals differently when provided with sulfite, a weak reductant, and selenite, a weak oxidant. Both compounds interacted with the DOPA–vanadium complex, but only selenite, the more redox-labile chalcogenide, led to the creation of melanin particulates. When DOPA, vanadate, and selenite are present together, a metal-binding spectra shift and a melanin variant are rapidly observed. This variant was found to form large, elongated filaments with a low carboxylic acid content and a unique electron paramagnetic resonance signature. When compared to enzymatically produced melanin, this chemically synthesized variant was more thermally and biologically inert, exhibiting a lower redox activity. The results demonstrate that the regulation of the redox environment from metal–catechol interactions can help to control both the chemical and physical properties of melanin aggregates, suggesting a scalable and cell- and enzyme-free synthesis pathway for applications that may require inert materials of strict composition. In the digital age, mobile games have become a new frontier for cultural identity and virtual consumption among Chinese Generation Z youth. With the development of the internet, users have gradually adapted to the coexistence of virtual and real identities, enriching the “small society” within games. However, virtual consumption and its underlying driving mechanisms have not received sufficient attention. Through interviews with 20 young people of Chinese Generation Z, this study argues that virtual consumption is not only about material consumption but also serves as a link between emotions and identity. In China’s increasingly atomised society, the idea of the “mimetic homeland” has become an essential interactive domain for Generation Z in the digital age. It offers individuals a dynamic space to engage with their cultural identity and sustain emotional resonance amid fragmented social conditions. In the “mimetic homeland”, game content, broadcaster charm, symbolic consumption, and player creation intertwine, allowing mobile games to create a diverse cultural identity mechanism. This mechanism rekindles players’ recognition of cultural identity and provides them with spiritual support. In mobile games, players continuously produce and consume cultural identity, using digital means to shape and spread spiritual consciousness symbols, ultimately achieving cultural identity commodification. This paper explores the evolving relationship between Digital Twins (DT) and the Metaverse, two foundational yet often conflated digital paradigms in digital architecture. While DTs function as mirrored models of real-world systems—integrating IoT, BIM, and real-time analytics to support decision-making—Metaverses are typically fictional, immersive, multi-user environments shaped by social, cultural, and speculative narratives. Through several research projects, the team investigate the divergence between DTs and Metaverses through the lens of their purpose, data structure, immersion, and interactivity, while highlighting areas of convergence driven by emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR).This study aims to investigate the convergence of DTs and the Metaverse in digital architecture, examining how emerging technologies—such as AI, XR, and Large Language Models (LLMs)—are blurring their traditional boundaries. By analyzing their divergent purposes, data structures, and interactivity modes, as well as hybrid applications (e.g., data-integrated virtual environments and AI-driven collaboration), this study seeks to define the opportunities and challenges of this integration for architectural design, decision-making, and immersive user experiences. Our research spans multiple projects utilizing XR and AI to develop DT and the Metaverse. The team assess the capabilities of AI in DT environments, such as reality capture and smart building management. Concurrently, the team evaluates metaverse platforms for online collaboration and architectural education, focusing on features facilitating multi-user engagement. The paper presents evaluations of various virtual environment development pipelines, comparing traditional BIM+IoT workflows with novel approaches such as Gaussian Splatting and generative AI for content creation. The team further explores the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) in both domains, such as virtual agents or LLM-powered Non-Player-Controlled Characters (NPC), enabling autonomous interaction and enhancing user engagement within spatial environments. Finally, the paper argues that DTs and Metaverse’s once-distinct boundaries are becoming increasingly porous. Hybrid digital spaces—such as virtual buildings with data-integrated twins and immersive, social metaverses—demonstrate this convergence. As digital environments mature, architects are uniquely positioned to shape these dual-purpose ecosystems, leveraging AI, XR, and spatial computing to fuse data-driven models with immersive and user-centered experiences. The presented article is focused on presenting the methodology for design and content creation for presentation purposes using see-through displays which show digital information on transparent surfaces in combination with real objects. The main part of this article identifies the sequence of design and content creation for presentation purposes in the educational process, which is graphically interpreted with the addition of verbal descriptions. The described methodology is focused on the creation of digital content that will be optimally integrated into the real environment to enhance the efficiency of communication and interactivity within educational processes. The methodology also identifies options for selecting suitable technologies to ensure the creation of a visually appropriate and functional digital presentation through see-through displays. The PTC Creo Parametric program was used to create animations for the assembly of components, and the SharpDevelop integrated development environment was used to design the user interface for the visualization itself. The created methodology is also verified in a pilot case study, which focuses on the presentation of a model of a sample assembly for educational purposes. Full article

In the modern digital ecosystem, the effective management of knowledge and the integration of information and communication technologies are the keys to revolutionizing educational practices within higher education institutions. This study presents a systematic review of recent literature, examining how the incorporation of information and communication technologies facilitates the creation and transfer of knowledge, enables collaboration among educators, and supports continuous professional development. We explore the benefits of personalized learning and the application of technological tools to enhance collaboration, access to educational resources, and pedagogical reflection. The key findings emphasize the role of these tools in promoting teacher interaction and exchange of ideas, highlighting the critical importance of training in digital competency to maximize their impact. The study also identifies challenges, including the need to improve effective knowledge transfer and technological training. In conclusion, effective knowledge management, supported by information and communication technologies, fortifies digital competencies and cultivates a culture of collaboration and content creation in higher education institutions. Black garlic, a fermented product of fresh garlic, has shown promising potential as a culinary ingredient and a medicinal remedy. This study examined the microbiological makeup, nutritional profile, and health advantages of black garlic to better understand its health-endorsing properties. Thermus, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, and Brevundimonas were among the prominent taxa found when the microbial diversity in black garlic samples was investigated using Illumina MiSeq sequencing. This provided insight into the complex interactions between microorganisms during the fermentation process and clarified the distinctive qualities of black garlic. This study expanded its scope to include black garlic’s therapeutic potential, specifically in relation to liver function and hangovers caused by alcohol, in addition to its microbial complexity. Significant liver damage was revealed in alcohol-treated rats by serum biochemical indicators and histological stains; this damage was lessened by the administration of black garlic, particularly at higher dosages. Furthermore, black garlic showed hepatoprotective effects attributed to its high phenolic and flavonoid contents. These results offer a novel understanding of the medicinal qualities of black garlic as they lay out possibilities for the creation of functional drugs to treat alcohol-induced liver damage. Conclusively, black garlic’s diverse microbial composition also advances our knowledge of its nutritional makeup and health advantages. In summary, this research highlights the potential of black garlic as a flexible medical tool, having implications for both gastronomic and therapeutic uses. Full article

This article presents a method for synthesizing a polymer composite based on the interaction of PVA and HNa isolated from coals from the Shubarkol deposit (Karaganda, Kazakhstan). The study focuses on the macromolecular aspects of the formation of the polymer matrix structure and the effect of a natural modifier on the properties of the composite. Taking into account the concept of macromolecular design, the addition of small additives of HNa (2–10%) significantly changes the nature of intermolecular interactions in the solution, promoting the accelerated structuring of the polymer network. This is manifested in a decrease in the gelation time, which is confirmed by a kinetic analysis based on changes in the relative viscosity of the systems. It was found that the greatest increase in viscosity is achieved on the fifth day with a content of 10% HNa and pH = 7, which, on the fifth day, indicates a critical concentration of the modifier necessary for the formation of a stable spatial network of hydrogen bonds and ion-dipole interactions between the functional groups of PVA and HNa. Morphological studies using AFM showed that an increase in the HNa content leads to a significant smoothing of the composite surface, indicating the formation of a more homogeneous and dense structure. These changes are due to the reorganization of the macromolecular architecture under the influence of modifying additives. The adsorption characteristics of the composite were estimated by the maximum sorption capacity, which was 3.40 mmol/g for Cu(II) ions. The results emphasize that the targeted control of the structure at the macromolecular level allows the creation of polymeric materials with specified physicochemical properties that are effective for wastewater treatment from heavy metals. The study demonstrates the potential of macromolecular design as a tool for the development of polymer composites with improved performance characteristics and environmental significance. This paper examines multisensory museums, envisioned as extended or hybrid realities where the physical and digital coexist to offer cognitively and emotionally engaging experiences to the public, while enhancing the sense of authenticity. Multisensory communication can improve accessibility, as it conveys the content through multiple perceptual channels, and it can solicit more inclusive, participatory, and creative audience engagement through the stimulation of emotions. A methodological approach to digitisation, communication strategies, interaction, creative storytelling, immersive technologies, and accessibility issues are discussed in depth, in relation to emerging museological practices. Machine learning and generative AI are opening new scenarios in management practices and decision-making, in data analyses and in natural language processing, and in the creation of personalised content addressed to the audience. A short overview about how these algorithms evolve and work is presented, considering the challenges, threats, expectations, and ethical implications they pose. Another key topic is the sense of authenticity. How is it changing in today’s users? How do virtual and mixed realities, storytelling, and user experience design in museums influence it? This paper explores these issues, presenting some case studies which have cultural, social, philosophical, and ethical implications, at a time when museums are redesigning their role in a society undergoing profound transformation.
