Establishing an entrepreneurship education ecosystem is crucial for the continual nurturing of young entrepreneurs and, consequently, the enhancement of economic development. Beyond the expansion of entrepreneurship programs, the active involvement and support from relevant resources and external stakeholders are pivotal to constructing such ecosystems. However, obstacles arise from the lower intention of external stakeholders to participate, and constraints imposed by information technology, hindering the ecosystem’s development. The Metaverse, an innovative technology amalgamating three-dimensional virtual technologies with blockchain and artificial intelligence, emerges as a potential solution to overcome these barriers and construct an entrepreneurship education ecosystem. Despite this potential, there is a lack of analysis explaining how the Metaverse achieves this. To address this gap, a framework for entrepreneurship education ecosystems is established in this study, highlighting two barriers and elucidating how these barriers impede ecosystem construction. Furthermore, four efficiencies of the Metaverse are identified as key factors with positive effects in terms of surmounting barriers to ensure the successful establishment of an entrepreneurship education ecosystem: communication convenience, enhanced simulation environment, information filtering, and the creation of valuable information. This theoretical study rigorously investigates how generative artificial intelligence reshapes decision-making in social entrepreneurship by modeling the opportunity search process through the lens of optimal stopping theory. Social entrepreneurs often face high uncertainty and resource constraints, requiring them to strategically balance the cost of continued searching with the chance of identifying socially impactful opportunities. This study develops a formal model that captures two core mechanisms of generative AI: reducing search costs and increasing the probability of mission-aligned opportunity success. The theoretical analysis yields three key findings. First, generative AI accelerates the optimal stopping point, allowing social entrepreneurs to act more quickly on high-potential opportunities by lowering cognitive and resource burdens. Second, the influence of increased success probability outweighs that of reduced search costs, underscoring the strategic importance of insight quality over efficiency in socially embedded contexts. Third, the benefits of generative AI are amplified in uncertain environments, where it helps navigate complexity and mitigate information asymmetry. These insights contribute to a deeper conceptual understanding of how intelligent technologies transform the cognitive and strategic dimensions of social entrepreneurship, and they offer empirically testable propositions for future research at the intersection of AI, innovation, and mission-driven opportunity pursuit. This study investigates the impact of digital technology propagation, specifically artificial intelligence (AI) and the TikTok application, on enhancing student entrepreneurs’ entrepreneurial knowledge, business experience, and the performance of their ventures. This research employs a mixed-methods design, combining qualitative and quantitative elements, with the quantitative aspect analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) and the qualitative aspect analyzed through in-depth interviews with student entrepreneurs. The survey included participation from 125 students, with three additional students serving as key informants. Research findings suggest that AI directly enhances entrepreneurial knowledge and business performance, whereas TikTok indirectly influences business success by affecting the acquisition of entrepreneurial learning. The utilization of AI has a substantial direct impact on entrepreneurial expertise and business performance. In contrast, the utilization of TikTok has a moderate influence on entrepreneurial knowledge, which in turn mediates its effect on entrepreneurial success. Offer practical implications for higher education institutions to integrate AI-driven analytics and social media marketing strategies into entrepreneurship curricula. Future research should investigate the regulatory framework, long-term implications, and the inclusion of other digital platforms to refine the digital transformation of entrepreneurship education further. In informal economic contexts, migrant entrepreneurs have been extolled as highly resilient and adaptable. This study critically investigates the adverse psychological foundations inherent in such enterprises, focusing on how dark triad personality traits emerge in the leadership orientations of marginal migrant entrepreneurs. Following a qualitative ethnographic approach, this research engaged 10–15 migrant employees through participant observation, field notes, and semi-structured interviews in an informal economic context. Thematic analysis revealed five dominant patterns: narcissistic leadership with entitlement and emotional disrespect; Machiavellian behavior of manipulation and deception; psychopathic detachment in emotional callousness; absence of light triad actions such as empathy, humility, and selflessness; and moral disengagement through rationalizations such as “everyone does it” or system blame. Migrant business owners prefer to rationalize their exploitative acts as being necessary for economic survival, thus legitimizing immoral conduct and suppressing moral self-regulation. The findings indicate that marginality not only drives entrepreneurial innovation, but also has the potential to create exploitative inclinations that are institutionally and morally unchecked. Solving this issue requires not only mere psychological awareness, but also systematic reforms that foster ethical robustness and emotional sensitivity. This study ultimately asserts the need to reframe migrant entrepreneurship discourse, including both ethical and psychological accountability. Full article

Crowdsourcing has become increasingly relevant in academic research due to its role in the evolving digital landscape, where information is a key driver of organizational performance. In a context dominated by emerging technologies and digital platforms, organizations are turning to external sources for data and idea generation. This paper offers a comprehensive review of the literature on crowdsourcing and digital information, using bibliometric techniques and qualitative analysis to identify major trends. The findings reveal several shifts in focus: from conceptual frameworks to practical applications; from customer participation to broader stakeholder involvement; and from general technological and managerial approaches to specific technologies and emerging perspectives in entrepreneurship and finance. The primary contributing disciplines are Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Science. Recent research (post 2023) emphasizes constructs such as “crowdfunding”, “digital platforms”, and “machine learning”, moving beyond earlier focuses like “citizen science” and “social media.” This review also reveals growing interest in managerial, medical, and cultural heritage applications, alongside a decline in research related to geography and crisis management over the past two years. This study enhances our understanding of current research directions and practical implications in crowdsourcing and digital information, offering valuable insights for both academics and practitioners. In today’s evolving society, meaningful development cannot be fully realized without acknowledging the vital role of the electronics sector, especially as it functions within informal markets. These markets have become more than just centers of commerce; they serve as informal learning grounds where many young people acquire entrepreneurial skills, develop resilience, and find alternatives to social vices. For many, informal entrepreneurship is not just an option but a means of survival and self-empowerment. Despite their growing relevance, the link between the entrepreneurial abilities nurtured in these informal markets and actual business performance has not been adequately examined. This study, therefore, aimed to explore how informal electronics entrepreneurs in a developing economy navigate their environment, overcome challenges, and create wealth through vision, innovation, and calculated risk-taking. Anchored in institutional theory, the research employed a qualitative approach, using cluster, purposive, and simple random sampling to select participants from key informal business units. Interviews were conducted, transcribed, and analyzed using QSR NVivo 12, allowing for deep insight into the lived experiences of the entrepreneurs. Findings revealed that 78% of participants emphasized practical suggestions that aid informal business survival, such as customer-driven innovations, adaptive strategies, and avoiding confrontations with regulatory agencies. Key attributes such as foresight, adaptability, and risk management accounted for 66% of the variance in corporate success. Strategic and innovative approaches are enabling informal firms to endure and prosper, since 61% of respondents associated these competencies with organizational success. The new BSP framework, which integrates institutional and contingency theories, illustrates how informal enterprises endure by conforming to or opposing institutional pressures and adjusting to environmental changes. The results indicate that, when properly understood and supported, the informal electronics sector may develop sustainably. This study demonstrates that informal entrepreneurship is influenced by formal regulations, informal norms, and local enforcement mechanisms, therefore enhancing institutional theory and elucidating business behavior in developing nations. The Business Survival Paradigm [BSP] illustrates how informal enterprises navigate institutional obstacles to endure. It advocates for policies that integrate the official and informal sectors while fostering sustainable development. The paper advocates for ongoing market research to assist informal firms in remaining up-to-date. It implores authorities to acknowledge the innovative potential of the informal sector and to provide supportive frameworks for sustainable growth and formal transition where feasible. Full article

Under the dual transformation background of global digital economy and low-carbon development, the synergistic promotion of enterprise digital transformation and green upgrading has become an important path to realizing high-quality development. Based on the coupling coordination degree model, this paper constructs the enterprise “digital-green” dual transformation synergy measurement index system, and empirically analyzes the panel data of China’s A-share-listed companies from 2017 to 2022 using the entropy weight-coupling coordination degree model and the fixed effect model. This study finds that, firstly, the synergy degree of the eastern region is significantly higher than that of the inland, less-developed provinces, but the regional gap is narrowing and the spatial pattern is evolving from the “central collapse type” to the low-level equilibrium type. Second, there is a significant positive driving effect of digital finance on the collaborative transformation of enterprises’ digitalization and greening, and the path of its action includes the effect of alleviating financing constraints, the empowerment of information transparency, and the effect of moderating and amplifying entrepreneurship. Third, the driving efficacy of digital finance in state-owned enterprises is more prominent than that in private enterprises. Fourth, digital finance significantly affects the degree of synergy, but there is a threshold effect. This study reveals the catalytic role of digital finance in the coupling process of digital transformation and greening upgrading, which not only expands the analytical dimension of transition economy theory but also provides a quantitative basis for policymakers to optimize the allocation of financial resources and for enterprises to design transformation paths. This study investigates how displaced women entrepreneurs in Ethiopia’s fragile institutional environment apply effectuation principles to sustain their businesses. Through analysis of five effectuation dimensions, we find that while affordable loss strategies and means orientation enhance business resilience, traditional effectuation approaches like partnership formation and rigid control mechanisms often prove ineffective in displacement contexts. This research makes three key contributions: first, it extends effectuation theory by identifying how institutional fragility fundamentally alters the utility of entrepreneurial strategies; second, it reveals displaced women’s innovative adaptations through informal networks and risk-minimising approaches; and third, it challenges universal applications of effectuation principles in crisis settings. This study contributes to sustainable entrepreneurship by demonstrating both the relevance and constraints of effectuation theory in crisis-affected environments. It underscores the importance of flexible, resourceful strategies for women entrepreneurs navigating systemic challenges, offering insights for policymakers and support organisations. Practical implications include designing capacity-building programmes that promote adaptive strategies, such as risk management and resource optimisation, while addressing the challenges of partnerships and rigid control mechanisms. By aligning with the goals of sustainable development, this research not only highlights the potential of effectuation principles but also unravels their limitations, providing a nuanced understanding of how entrepreneurial strategies can foster resilient livelihoods and sustainable economic practices in crisis-affected regions. This study leverages the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to investigate the variations in entrepreneurial intent (EI) among Romanian students, before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. By examining the interactions between attitudes, social norms (SocNorms), and perceived behavioral control (PBC), as represented in the TPB framework, we aimed to uncover what factors promote or hinder students’ decisions to pursue entrepreneurship. We examined these relationships across two cohorts (2018 and 2023) using structural equation modeling (SEM) on data collected through an online survey from a total sample of 383 Romanian bachelor students. Our findings indicate that PBC is a significant predictor of EI for both cohorts; however, attitudes have shown a direct but reverse influence for the 2023 group. This cohort, faced with isolation, unemployment, and resource shortages, has adapted by cultivating an innovation and perseverance mindset, positioning entrepreneurship as a viable solution. This study is one of the few longitudinal comparative investigations of EI in Romania during a significant societal crisis, offering insights into the evolving dynamics of young entrepreneurs, which can inform educational strategies and policies designed to nurture a new generation of resilient entrepreneurs. There is scant literature on migrants with an entrepreneurial background and who return to their country of origin. Using a transnational theoretical approach, we seek to contribute to research in this field by analysing the return strategies and expectations of Colombian migrant entrepreneurs participating in the Programme Migration and Diaspora (PMD). This programme is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Society for International Cooperation, Eschborn, Germany) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, Berlin, Germany). To this end, a mixed-methods study was conducted. Likert scale questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were applied to twenty-seven entrepreneurs participating in the programme, analysing quantitative and qualitative variables. Migrants seek to contribute to Colombia’s development through entrepreneurship, looking for various commercial connections for which security and planning conditions are necessary. They see entrepreneurship as sustenance, which in most cases results in transnational links between Germany and Colombia. For that to happen, contacts and acquired experiences are fundamental, as well as tangible and intangible resources, amongst which the information and support for entrepreneurship granted by GIZ stand out. Generally, it is essential to continue strengthening differentiated and comprehensive support strategies for all types of migrant entrepreneurs in destination countries. Full article

Our study investigates the drivers that foster the emergence of entrepreneurial responses to climate change among Indigenous communities. Indigenous peoples possess distinct worldviews and approaches to enterprise that prioritize community well-being and environmental stewardship over individual profit. Conventional entrepreneurship theories do not adequately capture Indigenous business approaches, leaving a limited understanding of how Indigenous communities merge traditional ecological knowledge with entrepreneurial activities to adapt to climate challenges. Through a systematic literature review (65 articles) and a case study of six Sri Lankan Vedda communities, we identified 15 key drivers that shape Indigenous climate-adaptive ventures and categorized them under five themes: (1) place-based relationships (resource stewardship, territorial connections, environmental risk factors); (2) intergenerational learning (traditional knowledge transfer, adaptation learning, collective experience); (3) community institutions (social networks, institutional support, overcoming the agency–structure paradox); (4) collective capacity (access to information, access to capital, community-oriented entrepreneurial traits); and (5) culturally aligned venture strategies (Indigenous business models, traditional products, local market relationships). Our study demonstrates how Vedda communities integrate entrepreneurship with cultural values to enhance climate resilience. Our research advances the field of Indigenous entrepreneurship while providing insights for policymakers and practitioners to support culturally appropriate climate adaptation strategies that enhance both community well-being and environmental sustainability. Entrepreneurship has long been a key driver of economic development across various countries. Investigating the determinants of entrepreneurial behaviour is essential for making a meaningful contribution to sustainable development. This study investigated the determinants of entrepreneurial behaviour among university of technology and TVET college students in South Africa, utilising the modified theory of planned behaviour. Specifically, the study explored how risk-taking propensity, financial and non-financial support, media, and gender influence perceived behavioural control, entrepreneurial intention, and behaviour. Additionally, the study tested the direct effects of perceived behavioural control on both entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial behaviour, as well as the direct effect of entrepreneurial intention on entrepreneurial behaviour. An online, structured, self-administered questionnaire was utilised to gather data from 496 finalyear diploma students at a university of technology and a TVET college, using a convenience sampling technique. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to analyse the data and test the postulated hypotheses. The findings revealed that non-financial support positively affected entrepreneurial intention, perceived behavioural control, and entrepreneurial behaviour, while financial support did not. Risk-taking propensity significantly influenced perceived behavioural control, entrepreneurial intention, and entrepreneurial behaviour. The results revealed that the gender was negatively related to perceived behavioural control, and female students exhibited lower perceived behavioural control than their male counterparts. However, gender showed no significant association with entrepreneurial intention or entrepreneurial behaviour. Media had a positive influence on both entrepreneurial intention and perceived behavioural control but did not significantly affect entrepreneurial behaviour. Additionally, both entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial behaviour were positively influenced by perceived behavioural control, while entrepreneurial intention also was positively associated with entrepreneurial behaviour. These findings underscore the critical role of fostering a supportive entrepreneurial environment in shaping entrepreneurial behaviour. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers and educators to cultivate an environment that supports students in developing as entrepreneurs. The results can inform policymakers in implementing support interventions aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial capacity among the youth. Promoting entrepreneurship is vital in achieving sustainable development goals through job creation and poverty alleviation. Full article

The first few days of the second Trump presidency saw a flurry of executive orders targeting immigrants, the transgender community, blacks, and federal government employees. The resulting “shocks” to the system are unprecedented, causing many to question the continuation of American democracy. These actions are a few of many policy preferences developed by conservatives and captured in “Project 2025”, spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation and with the overall intent of restructuring the federal government to suit authoritarian aims. Using a theoretical framework regarding policy entrepreneurs (PEs), I argue that conservative PEs (CPEs), under the aegis of the Republican Party and a second Trump term, are encouraging a shift away from a federal democratic republic to an authoritarian regime. CPEs of interest include elected officials, think tanks, media outlets, interest groups, and political operatives; collectively, these entities constitute a network of mostly unnoticed conservative political professionals using the mechanisms of policy entrepreneurship to damage American democracy. Overall, the actions CPEs take in terms of setting the agenda, controlling the electoral process, and informing the media indicate an eventual abandonment of democratic norms, an inclination towards the establishment of an authoritarian regime, and acceptance of said regime by a significant portion of the American people. This paper aims to define a model for measuring the localness of a company in an innovative and reliable way, motivated by the growing consumer interest in purchasing local products and supporting local economies. The proposed Expenses Localness Indicators (ELI) model uses existing data from information systems to define Localness Indicators, and incorporates Localness Levels based on geographic and economic criteria. It can be applied to any type of financial entity and overcomes the difficulty of defining localness in e-commerce companies or digital businesses in general. Previous studies have examined the impact of localness and investigated its effectiveness as a branding strategy for managers, mainly through product traceability. The ELI model uses as data the expenses of a company paid to other financial entities. The Expenses Localness Indicators are determined based on the distribution of these payments combined with the localness of the paid financial entities. These Indicators represent the degree of localness as a percentage, ranging from 0% (non-local) to 100% (fully local), and may vary over time. The results of the presented examples indicate that a company’s localness increases as it spends more of its expenses on local financial entities and vice versa. Specific strategies have been tested using synthetic data that demonstrate the correct functioning of the model’s indicators. The ELI model could be used to provide reliable and certifiable information to consumers who want to know where their money goes when they buy products. Implementing the proposed model on a large scale would require acceptance by as many companies and states as possible. However, by making the necessary adjustments, the model could be applied on a smaller scale, supported by consumers and local governments interested in uncovering knowledge about localness. It could also be established as a valid indicator of localness to provide information that researchers, government agencies and professionals can use to promote local entrepreneurship. Full article

Effects of Policy Communication Changes on Social Media: Before and After Policy Adjustment

The structure of a policy communication network shows the effect of policy communication on social media. Policies need to be dynamically adjusted during the implementation process, which may affect the policy’s interaction on social media. Based on the Policy Network Theory, this study explores the effects of policy communication changes on social media before and after the adjustment of China’s Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) Policy using Exponential Random Graph Models (ERGMs) analysis and community analysis. The study reveals that after the policy adjustment, the communication network structure indicated a significant increase in triangular configurations, yet the formation of edges remained constrained. Meanwhile, cross-community connections in the communication network decreased, with communities exhibiting localized contraction, and emotional polarization becoming more pronounced. These phenomena occurred because policy adjustments have boosted interaction levels through new incentive mechanisms, whereas the content and delivery methods of policy communication remain insufficiently engaging, which constrains relationship-building. Additionally, the policy’s evolution from a mobilization–participation model to a vertical governance paradigm has systematically reconfigured inter-community interaction patterns, resulting in structural transformations in cross-group information flows. To enhance the dissemination of policies on social media, it is recommended to intervene in the policy communication network structure through role embedding, shift from a reactive public sentiment management paradigm to proactive emotional governance, and strengthen policy communication strategies that emphasize emotional resonance. These measures can improve the effectiveness of policy communication and help address the challenges posed by emotional polarization and network fragmentation. Full article
