The green renovation of existing residential buildings is a key way for the construction industry to achieve sustainable development and the dual carbon goals of China, which makes it urgent to make collaborative decisions among multiple stakeholders. However, because of divergent interests and risk perceptions among governments, energy service companies (ESCOs), and owners, the implementation of green renovation is hindered by numerous obstacles. In this study, we integrated prospect theory and evolutionary game theory by incorporating core prospect-theory parameters such as loss aversion and perceived value sensitivity, and developed a psychologically informed tripartite evolutionary game model. The objective was to provide a theoretical foundation and analytical framework for collaborative governance among stakeholders. Numerical simulations were conducted to validate the model’s effectiveness and explore how government regulation intensity, subsidy policies, market competition, and individual psychological factors influence the system’s evolutionary dynamics. The findings indicate that (1) government regulation and subsidy policies play central guiding roles in the early stages of green renovation, but the effectiveness has clear limitations; (2) ESCOs are most sensitive to policy incentives and market competition, and moderately increasing their risk costs can effectively deter opportunistic behavior associated with low-quality renovation; (3) owners’ willingness to participate is primarily influenced by expected returns and perceived renovation risks, while economic incentives alone have limited impact; and (4) the evolutionary outcomes are highly sensitive to parameters from prospect theory, The system’s evolutionary outcomes are highly sensitive to prospect theory parameters. High levels of loss aversion (λ) and loss sensitivity (β) tend to drive the system into a suboptimal equilibrium characterized by insufficient demand, while high gain sensitivity (α) serves as a key driving force for the system’s evolution toward the ideal equilibrium. This study offers theoretical support for optimizing green renovation policies for existing residential buildings in China and provides practical recommendations for improving market competition mechanisms, thereby promoting the healthy development of the green renovation market. This literature-based review draws on studies of thirty-four fish species; most are from northern temperate regions. Fish have flexible and indeterminate growth, and often they do not reach their growth and size potential. They may become stunted with impaired growth and early maturity, chiefly as a phenotypically plastic reaction. The main causes of stunted growth are negatively density-dependent food availability and keen intraspecific competition leading to environmental stress. Typically, their growth levels off early in life as energy consumptions approach energy costs of maintenance. Females typically attain maturity soon after the energy surplus from feeding starts to decrease. Males are often more variable in size at maturity owing to alternative mating strategies, and their size at maturity depends on both species-specific mating behaviours and environmental opportunities. In polyphenic/polymorphic populations, one phenotype may be stunted and the other phenotype non-stunted; stunted individuals do not perform the required ontogenetic niche shift needed to grow larger. The adult morphology of stunted fish is typically like the morphology of juveniles. Their secondary sexual characters are less pronounced, and they phenotypically retain adaptation to their early feeding niche, which is different from that of large-growing individuals. There are open questions regarding to what extent genetics and epigenetics regulate the life histories of stunted phenotypes. Full article

As a critical external mechanism driving green innovation, institutional and competitive pressure often coexist and jointly shape firms’ strategic responses. However, existing studies primarily focus on the individual effects of these pressures, with limited attention to their interactive impacts on green innovation. Drawing on optimal distinctiveness theory, this study proposes a “pressure–response” analytical framework that classifies institutional and competitive pressure combinations into congruent (i.e., high–high or low–low) and incongruent (i.e., high–low or low–high) pressure contexts based on their relative intensities. It further examines how these distinct configurations affect two types of green innovation: strategic green innovation (StrGI) and substantive green innovation (SubGI). Using panel data from Chinese A-share listed firms between 2010 and 2022, the empirical results reveal that under congruent pressure contexts, the alignment of institutional and competitive pressures tends to suppress green innovation. In contrast, under incongruent contexts, the misalignment between the two pressures significantly promotes green innovation. Regarding innovation motivation, the high institutional–low competitive pressure context more significantly promotes StrGI, while the low institutional–high competitive pressure context has a more prominent effect on SubGI. In addition, this study also investigates the mediating roles of StrGI and SubGI on ESG performance. The findings provide theoretical support and policy implications for improving green transition policies and institutional frameworks, as well as promoting sustainable corporate development. Influenza B viruses, divided into B/Victoria and B/Yamagata lineages, have not had B/Yamagata isolates after 2020. A study evaluated immunity to influenza B surface antigens hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) in 138 patient sera from 2023 and 23 pairs of sera from 2018 to 2019 vaccine recipients. The phylogenetic tree of the influenza B virus, based on HA and NA genes, shows that the Yamagata lineage evolves gradually, while the Victoria lineage exhibits rapid mutations with short branches. In 2023, mean levels of antibodies to HA and NA of B/Yamagata virus were higher than to B/Victoria, despite no cases of B/Yamagata lineage isolation after 2020. The titers of antibodies to NA of B/Yamagata statistically significantly differed among individuals born before and after 1988. Among patients examined in 2018–2019, neuraminidase-inhibiting (NI) antibody titers before vaccination were higher to B/Yamagata than to B/Victoria, and NI antibodies to B/Victoria and B/Yamagata positively correlated with neutralizing antibodies to B/Victoria virus before and after vaccination. Immunity to B/Yamagata virus was stronger in 2023, despite no isolation since 2020, probably due to the presence of cross-reactive antibodies from B/Victoria infections or vaccinations. Antibodies to NA of B/Victoria and B/Yamagata in 2023 correlated significantly in patients born before 1988, potentially supporting the concept of ‘antigenic sin’ phenomenon for influenza B viruses. The fact that NI antibody titers to B/Victoria and B/Yamagata correlated with neutralizing antibody titers to B/Victoria may suggest broad cross-protection. Studying influenza B virus NA antigenic properties helps understand the evolution and antigenic competition of HA and NA. Full article

The introduction of mobile banking is essential in today’s financial sector, where technological innovation plays a critical role. To remain competitive in the current market, businesses must analyze client attitudes and perspectives, as these influence long-term demand and overall profitability. While previous studies have explored general adoption behaviors, limited research has examined how individual factors such as social influence, lifestyle compatibility, financial technology self-efficacy, and perceived usage cost affect mobile banking adoption among specific generational cohorts. This study addresses that gap by offering insights into these variables, contributing to the growing literature on mobile banking adoption, and presenting actionable recommendations for financial institutions targeting younger market segments. Using a structured questionnaire survey, data were collected from both users and non-users of mobile banking among the Gen Z population in the United States. The regression model significantly predicts mobile banking adoption, with an intercept of 0.548 (p < 0.001). Among the independent variables, perceived cost of usage has the strongest positive effect on adoption (B=0.857, β=0.722, p < 0.001), suggesting that adoption increases when mobile banking is perceived as more affordable. Social influence also has a significant positive impact (B=0.642, β=0.643, p < 0.001), indicating that peer influence is a central driver of adoption decisions. However, self-efficacy shows a significant negative relationship (B=0.343, β=0.339, p < 0.001), and lifestyle compatibility was found to be statistically insignificant (p=0.615). These findings suggest that reducing perceived costs, through lower fees, data bundling, or clearer communication about affordability, can directly enhance adoption among Gen Z consumers. Furthermore, leveraging peer influence via referral rewards, Partnerships with influencers, and in-app social features can increase user adoption. Since digital self-efficacy presents a barrier for some, banks should prioritize simplifying user interfaces and offering guided assistance, such as tutorials or chat-based support. Future research may employ longitudinal designs or analyze real-life transaction data for a more objective understanding of behavior. Additional variables like trust, perceived risk, and regulatory policies, not included in this study, should be integrated into future models to offer a more comprehensive analysis. Full article

The present study focuses on the attractiveness and perceived value of differentiated quality labels, such as the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), for agri-food products from Extremadura (Spain). In doing so, it addresses a gap in the scientific literature concerning consumer behavior toward products bearing these certifications. The results show that awareness of these quality schemes is significantly higher among middle-aged and older individuals, underscoring the need for more modern and targeted communication strategies. The findings highlight the strategic role of agri-food marketing in promoting certified products and emphasize the importance of bridging the generational gap in consumer education. Overall, differentiated quality schemes are perceived as strategic tools to enhance the competitiveness of local products, strengthen cultural identity, and foster sustainable rural economies. Furthermore, this study identifies a negative relationship between the consumption of certified products and the awareness of certification and a positive relationship with the willingness to pay a premium. Consumers with greater awareness tend consume these products less, although they are more willing to pay higher prices for items bearing quality labels. Full article

As economically important sympatric species in the Northwest Pacific, the Japanese sardine (Sardinops melanostictus) and Chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) exhibit significant biological interactions. Understanding the impact of interspecies competition on their habitat dynamics can provide crucial insights for the sustainable development and management of these interconnected species resources. This study utilizes fisheries data of S. melanostictus and S. japonicus from the Northwest Pacific, collected from June to November between 2017 and 2020. We integrated various environmental parameters, including temperature at different depths (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 m), eddy kinetic energy (EKE), sea surface height (SSH), chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a), and the oceanic Niño index (ONI), to construct interspecific competition species distribution model (icSDM) for both species. We validated these models by overlaying the predicted habitats with fisheries data from 2021 and performing cross-validation to assess the models’ reliability. Furthermore, we conducted correlation analyses of the habitats of these two species to evaluate the impact of interspecies relationships on their habitat dynamics. The results indicate that, compared to single-species habitat models, the interspecific competition species distribution model (icSDM) for these two species exhibit a significantly higher explanatory power, with R2 values increasing by up to 0.29; interspecific competition significantly influences the habitat dynamics of S. melanostictus and S. japonicus, strengthening the correlation between their habitat changes. This relationship exhibits a positive correlation at specific stages, with the highest correlations observed in June, July, and October, at 0.81, 0.80, and 0.88, respectively; interspecific competition also demonstrates stage-specific differences in its impact on the habitat dynamics of S. melanostictus and S. japonicus, with the most pronounced differences occurring in August and November. Compared to S. melanostictus, interspecific competition is more beneficial for the expansion of the optimal habitat (HIS ≥ 0.6) for S. japonicus and, to some extent, inhibits the habitat expansion of S. melanostictus. The variation in migratory routes and predatory interactions (with larger individuals of S. japonicus preying on smaller individuals of S. melanostictus) likely constitutes the primary factors contributing to these observed differences. Research has widely validated three-band spectral index as a simple, valid, and highly accurate method of estimating the copper content of soil. However, selecting the best band combination from hundreds of thousands, even millions of candidate combinations in hyperspectral data, is a very complicated problem. To address this issue, this study collected a total of 170 soil samples from the Aktas copper-gold mining area in Fuyun County, Xinjiang, China. Then, two algorithms including Competitive Weighted Resampling (CARS) and Stepwise Regression Analysis (STE) were applied to pick the bands from the original and first-order derivative spectra, respectively. A three-band index model was developed using the selected feature bands to estimate soil copper content. Results showed the first-order derivative spectrum transforms the spectral curve into a sharper one, with more peaks and valleys, which is beneficial for increasing the correlation between bands and copper content compared with the original spectrum. Moreover, integrating first-order derivative spectroscopy with CARS makes it possible to precisely identify key spectral bands and outperforms the dimensionality-reduction capabilities compared with the integration of STE. This strategy drastically reduces the time spent screening and is proven to have similar model accuracy, as compared to the individual group lifting method. Specifically, it reduces the duration of an 8 h task down to a mere 2 s. An intelligent screening of three-band indices is proposed in this study as a method of rapidly estimating copper content in soil. Full article

In an ever-evolving digital environment, organizations must adopt advanced technologies for real-time big data processing to maintain their competitiveness and growth. However, selecting appropriate technologies is a challenge, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study develops a literature review to analyze the methodologies used in the selection of technologies, with a special focus on those associated with the Industry 4.0. Knowledge Development Process-Constructivist (ProKnow-C) method, which was used to build a bibliographic portfolio, examining approximately 3400 articles published between 2005 and 2024, from which 80 were selected for a detailed analysis. The main methodological contributions come from research articles, the ScienceDirect database, the Expert Systems with Applications Journal, studies conducted in Turkey, and publications from the year 2023. The results highlight the predominant use of multi-criteria techniques, emphasizing hybrid approaches that combine various decision-making methodologies. In particular, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and TOPSIS methods were employed in 51.25% of the analyzed cases, either individually or in combination. It is concluded that technology selection should be based on flexible and adaptive approaches tailored to the organizational context, aligning long-term strategic objectives to ensure business sustainability and success. Range-expanding species, or neonatives, are native plants that spread beyond their original range due to recent climate or human-induced environmental changes. Retama monosperma was initially planted near the Guadalquivir estuary for dune stabilisation. However, changes in the sedimentary regime and animal-mediated dispersal have facilitated its exponential expansion, threatening endemic species and critical dune habitats. The main objective of this study was to identify the key functional traits that may explain the competitive advantage and rapid spread of R. monosperma in coastal dune ecosystems. We compared its seasonal responses with those of three co-occurring woody species, two native (Juniperus phoenicea and J. macrocarpa) and one naturalised (Pinus pinea), at two sites differing in groundwater availability within a coastal dune area (Doñana National Park, Spain). We measured water relations, leaf traits, stomatal conductance, photochemical efficiency, stable isotopes, and shoot elongation in 12 individuals per species. Repeated-measures ANOVA showed significant effects of species and species × season interaction for relative water content, shoot elongation, effective photochemical efficiency, and stable isotopes. R. monosperma showed significantly higher shoot elongation, relative water content, and photochemical efficiency in summer compared with the other species. Stable isotope data confirmed its nitrogen-fixing capacity. This characteristic, along with the higher seasonal plasticity, contributes to its competitive advantage. Given the ecological fragility of coastal dunes, understanding the functional traits favouring the success of neonatives such as R. monosperma is essential for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management. In ecosystems, spatial structure plays a fundamental role in shaping the observed dynamics. In particular, the availability and distribution of unoccupied sites—potential habitats—can strongly affect species persistence. However, mathematical models of ecosystems based on ordinary differential equations (ODEs) often neglect the explicit representation of these unoccupied sites. Here, probabilistic cellular automata (PCA) are used to reproduce two basic ecological scenarios: competition between two species and a predator–prey relationship. In these PCA-based models, unoccupied sites are taken into account. Subsequently, a mean field approximation of the PCA behavior is formulated in terms of ODEs. The variables of these ODEs are the numbers of individuals of both species and the number of empty cells in the PCA lattice. Including the empty cells in the ODEs leads to a modified version of the Lotka–Volterra system. The long-term behavior of the solutions of the ODE-based models is examined analytically. In addition, numerical simulations are carried out to compare the time evolutions generated by these two modeling approaches. The impact of explicitly considering unoccupied sites is discussed from a modeling perspective. Full article

Traditional neuroticism assessments primarily rely on self-report questionnaires, which can be difficult to implement in highly confrontational scenarios and are susceptible to subjective biases. Traditional neuroticism assessments primarily rely on self-report questionnaires, which can be difficult to implement in highly confrontational scenarios and are susceptible to subjective biases. To overcome these limitations, this study develops a machine learning-based approach using behavioral data to predict an opponent’s neuroticism in competitive environments. We analyzed behavioral records from 167 participants on the MiaoSuan Wargame platform. After data cleaning and feature selection, key behavioral features associated with neuroticism were identified, and predictive models were developed. Neuroticism was assessed using the 8-item neuroticism subscale of the Big Five Inventory. Results indicate that this method can effectively infer an individual’s neuroticism level. The best-performing model was LinearSVR, which balances interpretability, robustness to noise, and the ability to capture moderate nonlinear relationships—making it suitable for behavior-based psychological inference tasks. The correlation between predicted scores and self-reported questionnaire scores was 0.606, the R-squared value was 0.354, and the test–retest reliability was 0.516. These behavioral features provide valuable insights into neuroticism prediction and have practical applications in psychological assessment, particularly in competitive environments where conventional methods are impractical. This study demonstrates the feasibility of behavior-based neuroticism assessment and suggests future research directions, including refining feature selection techniques and expanding the application scenarios. Background: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a physically demanding sport associated with a notable risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Understanding injury patterns, rehabilitation approaches, and psychological readiness to return to sport (RTS) is essential for prevention and management strategies. This study aimed to investigate injury characteristics among Italian BJJ athletes, assess their rehabilitation processes and psychological recovery, and identify key risk factors such as belt level, body mass index (BMI), and training load. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among members of the Italian BJJ community, including amateur and competitive athletes. A total of 360 participants completed a 36-item online questionnaire. Data collected included injury history, rehabilitation strategies, RTS timelines, and responses to the Injury-Psychological Readiness to Return to Sport (I-PRRS) scale. A Random Forest machine learning algorithm was used to identify and rank potential injury risk factors. Results: Of the 360 respondents, 331 (92%) reported at least one injury, predominantly occurring during training sessions. The knee was the most frequently injured joint, and the action “attempting to pass guard” was the most reported mechanism. Most athletes (65%) returned to training within one month. BMI and age emerged as the most significant predictors of injury risk. Psychological readiness scores indicated moderate confidence, with the lowest levels associated with playing without pain. Conclusions: Injuries in BJJ are common, particularly affecting the knee. Psychological readiness, especially confidence in training without pain, plays a critical role in RTS outcomes. Machine learning models may aid in identifying individual risk factors and guiding injury prevention strategies. Full article

The Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA) has attracted significant attention due to its simplicity and effective search capabilities. However, its performance deteriorates when dealing with high-dimensional or complex optimization tasks. To address these limitations, this study proposes an improved variant of GOA, named Outpost Multi-population GOA (OMGOA). OMGOA integrates two novel mechanisms: the Outpost mechanism, which enhances local exploitation by guiding agents towards high-potential regions, and the multi-population enhanced mechanism, which promotes global exploration and maintains population diversity through parallel evolution and controlled information exchange. Comprehensive experiments were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of OMGOA. Ablation studies were performed to assess the individual contributions of each mechanism, while multi-dimensional testing was used to verify robustness and scalability. Comparative experiments show that OMGOA has better optimization performance compared to other similar algorithms. In addition, OMGOA was successfully applied to a real-world engineering problem—lithology prediction from petrophysical logs—where it achieved competitive classification performance. Full article

Small-scale farms deserve attention and support because they play crucial and important roles. Apart from ensuring provision of food security, they also provide other economic, environmental, and social–cultural benefits. In the United States of America, these farms are agriculturally, culturally, and geographically different. They have varied needs that trigger an array of distinct biophysical, socioeconomic, and institutional challenges. The effects of these challenges are exacerbated by economic uncertainty, technological advancements, climate change, and other environmental concerns. To provide ideal services to the small-scale farm audience, it is necessary to understand these challenges and opportunities that can be leveraged to enhance their productivity and profitability. This article reviews the challenges faced by small-scale farming in the United States of America. It then reviews possible pathways to enhance their productivity and profitability. The review revealed that U.S. small-scale farms face several challenges. They include accessing farmland, credit and capital, lack of knowledge and skills, and technology adoption. Others are difficulties to insure, competition from corporations, and environmental uncertainties associated with climate change. The paper then reviews key pathways to enhance small-scale farmers’ capacities and resilience with a positive impact on their productivity and profitability. They are enhanced cooperative extension services, incentivization, strategic marketing, annexing technology, and government support, among others. Based on the diversity of farms and their needs, responses should be targeted towards individual needs. Since small-scale farm products have an effect on human health and dietary patterns, strategies to increase productivity should be linked to nutrition and health. Full article
