Specialized Nursing-Led Interventions for Bladder Cancer Management: A Scoping Review of Evidence and Clinical Outcomes

Background and Objectives: Bladder cancer (BC) represents a significant global health burden, ranking as the tenth most commonly diagnosed malignancy worldwide, with an incidence rate of 5.6 per 100,000 person-years annually. The research team aimed to summarize evidence on specialized nursing-led interventions for bladder cancer management across the disease continuum. Materials and Methods: This scoping review used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) methodology to search four databases from January 2018 to November 2025. Results: This concise but informative scoping review of 20 studies revealed substantial clinical and patient-reported benefits from specialized nursing interventions. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols incorporating structured nursing care demonstrated a 35% reduction in postoperative complications. Integrated nursing interventions during postoperative intravesical therapy significantly improved patient satisfaction, treatment compliance, and self-efficacy while reducing anxiety and depression. Digital health platforms, including internet-based and mobile applications, proved effective in reducing caregiver burden, enhancing disease knowledge, and improving coping strategies. Preoperative stoma education and postoperative ostomy care management significantly improved self-efficacy, stoma care knowledge, and overall health-related quality of life. Psychosocial interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based approaches, demonstrated significant improvements in quality of life and reductions in fear of recurrence, depression, and anxiety. However, a critical evidence gap exists regarding bladder cancer-specific mental health interventions. Conclusions: Specialized nursing-led care plays a critical role in strengthening clinical and assistive practice in bladder cancer. Evidence from this scoping review shows that nursing-led interventions significantly improve clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, symptom management, and quality of life across all phases of bladder cancer care while reducing caregiver burden and enhancing psychological well-being for both patients and families, reinforcing the value of integrating specialized nursing roles into routine bladder cancer management. Background/Objectives: Dementia represents a growing public health challenge. The WHO Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia emphasizes early detection, risk reduction, and innovation as key priorities. Mild Behavioral Impairment (MBI), defined as the emergence of persistent neuropsychiatric symptoms in older individuals, represents a potential marker of early neurodegeneration and possible window for early intervention. This review explores the role of MBI in dementia prevention, mapping current evidence within the WHO Global Action Plan framework. Methods: A comprehensive search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, and the official WHO website, during 1 September 2025–10 November 2025, without time restrictions. Eligible sources included original clinical studies, reviews, and policy documents addressing MBI, dementia prevention, and public health. Data were thematically synthesized according to the seven objectives of WHO: (1) dementia as a public health priority, (2) dementia awareness and friendliness, (3) dementia risk reduction, (4) dementia diagnosis, treatment, care and support, (5) support for dementia carers, (6) information systems for dementia, and (7) dementia research and innovation. Results: Accumulating evidence indicates that MBI assessment can capture early behavioral manifestations of neurodegenerative and other forms of dementia, correlating with fluid, neuroimaging and genetic biomarkers. Integrating MBI screening through the easy-to-administer MBI Checklist (MBI-C) into clinical and community-based care, including telemedicine pathways and research, may enhance early identification and personalized interventions, enrich the pool for clinical trials, and facilitate research in biomarker and therapy. MBI-related research further supports its integration in remote digital monitoring and population-based prevention. Conclusions: Embedding MBI-informed screening and interventions into national dementia strategies aligns with WHO objectives for early, equitable and scalable prevention and brain health. Background/Objectives: Parental mental health challenges are associated with parenting difficulties and child mental health issues. Parenting interventions can support families; however, parents with mental health challenges face barriers to accessing parenting support, which is not consistently offered within adult mental health settings. Embedding technology-assisted parenting programs into these settings could provide accessible, holistic support. Partners in Parenting Kids (PiP Kids) is a digital parenting program designed to prevent child anxiety and depression, yet its suitability for parents with mental health challenges and fit within mental health services remains unclear. This study aimed to co-design and adapt PiP Kids for future implementation in an Australian adult mental health service. Methods: Parents who recently sought mental health support (n = 8) and service providers (n = 7) participated in co-design workshops to explore needs and preferences for a technology-assisted parenting program and iteratively develop a prototype. Parents (n = 3) trialled the online component of the prototype and participated in qualitative interviews to assess acceptability. Results: The adapted clinician-supported program was designed to facilitate (1) parent and clinician readiness for parenting support; (2) emotional and social support for parents and clinicians; (3) practical, personalised parenting knowledge; (4) parent-led empowerment; and (5) accessible, integrated support. Prototype clinician training was developed to strengthen the clinician-support component. Parents indicated initial acceptability of the online prototype while reiterating the value of including face-to-face support. Conclusions: This study co-designed an online, clinician-supported parenting program for future embedding within adult mental health settings. The findings highlight key considerations for developing and implementing technology-assisted interventions that promote family-focused care for parents seeking mental health support. Full article

Background/Objectives: Cancer pain affects 55–95% of patients with advanced malignancy, representing a complex syndrome involving nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic mechanisms. Despite therapeutic advances, two-thirds of patients with metastatic cancer experience inadequate pain control. This scoping review synthesizes recent advances in cancer pain pathophysiology and management, focusing on molecular and cellular mechanisms, emerging pharmacological, interventional and technological therapies and key evidence gaps to inform future precision-based pain management strategies. Methods: Following PRISMA-ScR methodology, we searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science for studies published between January 2022 and September 2025. After screening 3412 records, 278 studies were included and analyzed across different domains: biological mechanisms, pharmacological management, interventional and neuromodulatory approaches, radiotherapy developments, and digital health innovations. Results: Recent mechanistic research reveals cancer pain arises from tumor–neuron–immune crosstalk, with malignant cells secreting neurotrophic factors that promote axonal sprouting and nociceptor sensitization. Genetic polymorphisms and epigenetic modifications contribute to inter-individual pain variability. Management strategies are evolving toward multimodal precision medicine: NSAIDs and opioids remain foundational, complemented by adjuvant agents and interventional procedures including nerve blocks, intrathecal delivery, and neuromodulation (spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion stimulation). Stereotactic body radiotherapy demonstrates superior analgesic durability versus conventional approaches. Digital health innovations, such as mobile applications, remote monitoring, wearables, and AI-enabled predictive models, enable continuous assessment and personalized treatment optimization. Conclusions: Cancer pain management is transitioning toward mechanism-based precision medicine integrating biological insights, advanced interventional techniques, and digital technologies. However, implementation challenges persist, including limited randomized trials for interventional approaches, the incomplete external validation of AI tools, and digital health equity concerns. Future research must prioritize prospective controlled studies and equitable integration into routine care. Full article

Background/Objectives: The growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and chatbots in health professional education offers innovative methods to enhance learning and clinical preparedness. This study aimed to evaluate the educational impact and perceptions in university students of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, regarding the utility, usability, and design of the E+DIEting_Lab chatbot platform when implemented in clinical nutrition training. Methods: The platform was piloted from December 2023 to April 2025 involving 475 students from multiple European universities. While all 475 students completed the initial survey, 305 finished the follow-up evaluation, representing a 36% attrition rate. Participants completed surveys before and after interacting with the chatbots, assessing prior experience, knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent samples t-tests to compare pre- and post-intervention perceptions. Results: A total of 475 university students completed the initial survey and 305 the final evaluation. Most university students were females (75.4%), with representation from six languages and diverse institutions. Students reported clear perceived learning gains: 79.7% reported updated practical skills in clinical dietetics and communication were improved, 90% felt that new digital tools improved classroom practice, and 73.9% reported enhanced interpersonal skills. Self-rated competence in using chatbots as learning tools increased significantly, with mean knowledge scores rising from 2.32 to 2.66 and skills from 2.39 to 2.79 on a 0–5 Likert scale (p < 0.001 for both). Perceived effectiveness and usefulness of chatbots as self-learning tools remained positive but showed a small decline after use (effectiveness from 3.63 to 3.42; usefulness from 3.63 to 3.45), suggesting that hands-on experience refined, but did not diminish, students’ overall favorable views of the platform. Conclusions: The implementation and pilot evaluation of the E+DIEting_Lab self-learning virtual patient chatbot platform demonstrate that structured digital simulation tools can significantly improve perceived clinical nutrition competences. These findings support chatbot adoption in dietetics curricula and inform future digital education innovations. Full article

The limitations of conventional diabetes management are increasingly evident. As a result, both type 1 and 2 diabetes in pediatric populations have become major global health concerns. As new technologies emerge, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), they offer new opportunities to improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment outcomes, and patient self-management. A PRISMA-based systematic review was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and BIREME. The research covered studies published up to February 2025, where twenty-two studies met the inclusion criteria. These studies examined machine learning algorithms, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), closed-loop insulin delivery systems, telemedicine platforms, and digital educational interventions. AI-driven interventions were consistently associated with reductions in HbA1c and extended time in range. Furthermore, they reported earlier detection of complications, personalized insulin dosing, and greater patient autonomy. Predictive models, including digital twins and self-learning neural networks, significantly improved diagnostic accuracy and early risk stratification. Digital health platforms enhanced treatment adherence. Nonetheless, the barriers included unequal access to technology and limited long-term clinical validation. Artificial intelligence is progressively reshaping pediatric diabetes care toward a predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory paradigm. Broader implementation will require rigorous multiethnic validation and robust ethical frameworks to ensure equitable deployment. Full article

Background: Approximately half of U.S. adults have ≥1 cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Exercise is universally recommended as a first-line lifestyle therapy to prevent and treat CVD. Objective: We will conduct a feasibility and pilot efficacy randomized controlled trial to test the usability and user satisfaction of an evidence-based digital health tool we developed for physicians—the Prioritizes Personalizes Prescribes EXercise algorithm (P3-EX)—to treat patients with CVD risk factors (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT07238556). Methods: We will recruit 24 physicians who do not prescribe written exercise prescriptions (ExRx) from two local CT hospitals. Physicians will recruit two patients each (N = 48); both patients must have CVD risk factors. Each physician will deliver a P3-EX ExRx to one patient (n = 24) and the Physical Activity Vital Sign ExRx to the other patient (n = 24) in a random sequence crossover design. Physicians and patients will rate the feasibility and acceptability of each ExRx method using validated questionnaires. Patients will perform their ExRx for 12 weeks and complete an exercise diary to monitor exercise adherence with weekly virtual oversight by Research Assistants. Before and after the exercise intervention, we will measure patient CVD risk factors and physical activity levels via accelerometry. Results: This trial has received Institutional Review Board approval (E-HHC-2025-0198) and will begin in January 2026, with findings published in 2027. Conclusions: This protocol provides the scientific rationale and methodology to test P3-EX within a real-world clinical setting, to inform the feasibility of using P3-EX as a digital health support tool by physicians, and preliminary efficacy of P3-EX to improve patient cardiovascular health and physical activity levels. Chronic low-grade inflammation, or “inflammaging,” represents a central mechanism linking dietary patterns, gut microbiome composition, and biological aging. Evidence from Blue Zone populations and Mediterranean diet studies demonstrates that specific nutritional interventions are associated with up to 23% lower all-cause mortality, with analyses suggesting that part of this association may be mediated by measurable improvements in inflammatory biomarkers. This paper synthesizes published evidence from Mediterranean diet trials, centenarian microbiome studies, and digital health platforms to propose a comprehensive digital health framework that integrates quarterly inflammation and microbiome monitoring with continuous lifestyle tracking to deliver personalized longevity interventions. This paper introduces the Longevity-Inflammation Index (L-II), a composite score combining high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and microbiome-derived markers, with scoring algorithms derived from centenarian population studies. The proposed platform leverages artificial intelligence to generate evidence-based recommendations adapted from centenarian and Mediterranean dietary patterns. Published evidence from multiple randomized controlled trials demonstrates that Mediterranean dietary interventions reduce hs-CRP by 18–32%, increase microbiome diversity by 6–28%, and improve metabolic markers including HOMA-IR and TG/HDL ratios. Digital health platforms demonstrate sustained engagement rates of 58–84% at 12 months, with dietary logging frequencies of 4–6 days per week. Cost-effectiveness analyses of dietary interventions show incremental cost-effectiveness ratios of USD 2100–4800 per quality-adjusted life year gained. This inflammation-centered digital health framework offers a scalable approach for translating longevity research into practical interventions for healthy aging, with validation studies needed to confirm the integrated platform’s efficacy and real-world implementation feasibility. Urban public spaces increasingly need to address inclusivity, adaptability, and resilience in the face of health, environmental, and social challenges. Urban policies also promote improving the relationship between schools and their surroundings to mitigate and adapt to climate and social risks. This article presents EDUS Point, an experimental prototype developed within the European project FURNISH and tested in Barcelona during the COVID-19 crisis. Conceived as an Urban Living Lab (ULL), the initiative explored how modular, digitally fabricated, and temporary structures could transform school environments into open, inclusive, and human-scale public spaces. Through an inter-scalar and interdisciplinary approach, the project implemented an urban strategy, a participatory community-building process, and a digital collective platform, alongside the design, fabrication, and testing of a pilot classroom device adaptable and replicable in other schools. A mixed-methods methodology combined tactical urbanism and co-design with fabrication feasibility assessments, social observations, and spatial impact analysis. Results demonstrate that EDUS Point fostered new socio-spatial dynamics among students, teachers, and residents, improved accessibility and usability of nearby public spaces, and validated the effectiveness of low-cost, rapidly deployable interventions in addressing urban needs. The findings propose actionable frameworks, tools, and design criteria for the socio-environmental integration of schools as catalysts for inclusive and resilient urban transformation. Full article

Background: Early childhood caries (ECC) compromise the nutrition, growth, and quality of life in young children, and their relationship with breastfeeding practices remains disputed. Aim: To determine if prolonged breastfeeding increases the risk of dental caries in children aged under 71 months. Material and Methods: A systematic review of PubMed, Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute, and Evidence-Based Dentistry, was conducted through August 2025, including observational studies, randomized trials, narrative reviews, and meta-analyses on breastfeeding and ECC. Results: Thirty-one studies involving 28,000 children were included. Exclusive breastfeeding for under six months halves ECC probability (OR 0.53–0.58), whereas breastfeeding beyond 12 months and nocturnal feeds increase probability by 60–86% (OR 2.35–7.14). Parental factors—high plaque levels, feeding-to-sleep, and skipped post-feed cleaning—strongly predict ECC (OR 8.51–75.6). Interventions combining feeding counseling with home visits or visual aids reduce ECC incidence by 22–32% (RR 0.68–0.78). Conclusions: Exclusive breastfeeding through six months is protective against ECC, but prolonged or nocturnal feeding heightens risk. Integrating structured oral health education into breastfeeding promotion is recommended. Full article

Social media addiction (SMA) and social phobia (SP) are significant adolescent mental health concerns. In Saudi Arabia, despite high social media penetration, the association between these two constructs remains under-researched, particularly in the Aseer region. This cross-sectional study, conducted from January to March 2025, recruited 384 Saudi adolescents aged 11–19 from schools in the Aseer region using multistage cluster sampling. Participants completed validated self-report measures, including the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) and the Al-Menayes Social Media Addiction Scale. A refined “Core SMA” subscale was created based on expert consensus criteria to enhance measurement precision. The prevalence of moderate-to-severe social phobia was 15.6%. A significant, moderate positive correlation emerged between SP and SMA (Spearman’s ρ = 0.294, p < 0.001). After adjusting for age, gender, and family income, adolescents with moderate social phobia had 2.15 times the odds of probable SMA compared to those with no SP (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 2.15, 95% CI: 1.15–4.04, p < 0.05), and this effect was more pronounced for those with severe social phobia (AOR = 2.56, 95% CI: 1.04–6.30, p < 0.05). This study demonstrates a clear relationship between social phobia severity and social media addiction among Saudi adolescents in the Aseer region. These findings support the urgent need for integrated mental health and digital literacy interventions that proactively screen for both conditions. Full article

Aging involves progressive changes in sensory perception, appetite regulation, and metabolic flexibility, which together affect dietary intake, nutrient adequacy, and health-related outcomes. Meanwhile, current wearable technologies allow continuous, minimally invasive monitoring of physiological and behavioral markers relevant to metabolic health, such as physical activity, sleep, heart rate variability, glycemic patterns, and so forth. However, digital nutrition approaches have largely focused on physiological signals while underutilizing the sensory dimensions of eating—taste, smell, texture, and hedonic response—that strongly drive dietary intake and adherence. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on the following: (1) age-related sensory changes and their nutritional consequences, (2) metabolic adaptation and markers of resilience in older adults, and (3) current and emerging wearable technologies applicable to nutritional personalization. Following this, we propose an integrative framework linking subjective (implicit) sensory perception and objective (explicit) wearable-derived physiological responses into adaptive feedback loops to support personalized dietary strategies for healthy aging. In this light, we discuss practical applications, technological and methodological challenges, ethical considerations, and research priorities to validate and implement sensory–physiological integrated models. Merging together sensory science and wearable monitoring has the potential to enhance adherence, preserve nutritional status, and bolster metabolic resilience in aging populations, moving nutrition from one-size-fits-all prescriptions toward dynamic, person-centered, sensory-aware interventions. Intention to Use Digital Health Among COPD Patients in Europe: A Cluster Analysis

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) increasingly strains European health systems amid population ageing. Digital health interventions (DHIs) can reduce hospitalizations and support self-management, yet older patients hesitate to adopt them. Tailored interventions require understanding patient profiles. This study aimed to identify clusters by intention to use DHIs. Methods: Between July 2024 and February 2025, 232 COPD patients (mean age 65; 61% female) across seven European countries completed surveys covering sociodemographic and Unified Theory of Technology Acceptance (UTAUT) constructs. Intention to use DHIs was categorized as positive, neutral, or negative. Weighted UTAUT scores were clustered using Gower distance and Partitioning Around Medoids. Associations were visualized with multiple correspondence analysis and heat maps; differences were tested with the chi-square test. Results: Intention to adopt DHIs varied across countries, with the highest in the Netherlands. Two clusters emerged. Cluster 1, the ‘balanced hesitant’ group (n = 104), showed mixed intentions (38% positive, 40% neutral, 21% negative). Barriers included low performance expectancy and limited digital skills (both p < 0.05). Cluster 2, the ‘enthusiastic’ group (n = 128), demonstrated strong adoption intentions, with 84% positive intention. Enablers included low effort expectancy and complex disease (p < 0.01). Across both clusters, performance expectancy predicted intention. Conclusions: Digital health adoption among COPD patients is shaped by psychosocial and digital skill profiles. Hesitant users benefit from expectation-based information about DHIs, digital literacy training and peer support. Enthusiasts require ease of integration. Performance expectancy is a consistent driver of adoption, whereas country-specific factors should guide strategies. Full article

Asthma is a common chronic disease in children, contributing to significant morbidity and healthcare utilization worldwide. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into pediatric asthma care is rapidly advancing, offering new opportunities for early diagnosis, risk stratification, and personalized management. AI-driven tools can analyze complex clinical, genetic, and environmental data to identify asthma phenotypes and endotypes, predict exacerbations, and support timely interventions. In pediatric populations, these technologies enable non-invasive diagnostic approaches, remote monitoring through wearable devices, and improved medication adherence via smart inhalers and digital health platforms. Despite these advances, challenges remain, including the need for pediatric-specific datasets, transparency in AI decision-making, and careful attention to data privacy and equity. The integration of AI in pediatric asthma care and into the clinical decision system can offer personalized treatment plans, reducing the burden of the disease both for patients and health professionals. This is a narrative review on the applications of AI and ML in pediatric asthma care. Full article

Osteoporosis After Menopause and After Drug Therapy: The Molecular Mechanism of Bone Loss and Its Treatment

Osteoporosis is a prevalent skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration, leading to increased fracture risk, particularly in aging populations. Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) remains the most common primary form and results from abrupt estrogen deficiency after menopause, which disrupts bone remodeling by accelerating the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-mediated osteoclastogenesis, suppressing Wnt/β-catenin signaling, and promoting inflammatory cytokine production. In contrast, drug-induced osteoporosis (DIOP) encompasses a heterogeneous group of secondary bone disorders arising from pharmacologic exposures. Glucocorticoids suppress osteoblastogenesis, enhance osteoclast activity, and increase reactive oxygen species; long-term bisphosphonate therapy may oversuppress bone turnover, resulting in microdamage accumulation; denosumab withdrawal triggers a unique rebound surge in RANKL activity, often leading to rapid bone loss and multiple vertebral fractures. Medications including aromatase inhibitors, SSRIs, proton pump inhibitors, heparin, and antiepileptic drugs impair bone quality through diverse mechanisms. Standard antiresorptive agents remain first-line therapies, while anabolic agents such as teriparatide, abaloparatide, and romosozumab provide enhanced benefits in high-risk or drug-suppressed bone states. Transitional bisphosphonate therapy is essential when discontinuing denosumab, and individualized treatment plans—including drug holidays, lifestyle interventions, and monitoring vulnerable patients—are critical for optimizing outcomes. Emerging approaches such as small interfering RNA (siRNA)-based therapeutics, anti-sclerostin agents, digital monitoring technologies, and regenerative strategies show promise for future precision medicine management. Understanding the distinct and overlapping molecular mechanisms of osteoporosis is essential for improving fracture prevention and long-term skeletal health. Full article
