Under the construction background of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, high-energy-consuming enterprises, represented by the electrolytic aluminum industry, have become important carriers for energy conservation and emission reduction. These enterprises are characterized by significant energy consumption and high carbon emissions, greatly impacting the economic and environmental benefits of regional power grids. Existing research often focuses on grid revenue, leaving high-energy-consuming enterprises in a passive regulatory position. To address this, this paper constructs an economic dispatch strategy for power grids that considers waste heat utilization in high-energy-consuming enterprises. A typical representative, electrolytic aluminum load and its waste heat utilization model, for the entire production process of high-energy-consuming loads, is established. Using a tiered carbon trading calculation formula, a low-carbon production scheme for high-energy-consuming enterprises is developed. On the grid side, considering local load levels, the uncertainty of wind power output, and the energy demands of aluminum production, a robust day-ahead economic dispatch model is established. Case analysis based on the modified IEEE-30 node system demonstrates that the proposed method balances economic efficiency and low-carbon performance while reducing the conservatism of traditional optimization approaches. Under the impetus of digital rural development and the rapid advancement of smart logistics, intelligent terminal delivery technologies are gradually expanding into rural areas. This study employs a three-phase mixed research approach to systematically investigate the factors influencing and mechanisms underlying rural residents’ willingness to adopt smart logistics in Hebei Province. In the first phase, grounded theory is employed to identify seven key perceived factors: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, sensitivity to collective evaluation, cultural conservatism, infrastructure quality, facilitating conditions, and technological trust. In the second phase, integrating the TAM and the UTAUT, this study incorporates context-specific variables and conducts empirical analysis using SEM and the bootstrap method on 451 valid questionnaire responses. The results indicate that all factors except infrastructure quality significantly influence adoption willingness, with cultural conservatism exerting a negative effect. In the third phase, fsQCA is applied to identify eight configurations that lead to high adoption willingness, further supplementing and enriching the explanatory power of the SEM results. This research expands the theoretical understanding of smart logistics technology adoption mechanisms in rural areas and offers practical guidance for the promotion and application of related technologies. Religiosity and political conservatism are often hypothesized to be negatively associated with attitudes towards science. Yet, past research has often failed to distinguish between trust in science versus the acceptance of science as a source of truth. Using data generated from a probability survey of U.S. adults, we identify four latent factors within a battery of items asking about individuals’ views on science. Two of these represent science’s power as a source of truth, while the other two represent trust in science and scientists. A structural equation model finds that, all else being equal, measures of religiosity tend to be negatively associated with an individual’s view of science as a source of truth and unrelated to their trust in science. Adherence to Christian nationalism is negatively associated with an individual’s trust in science, while political conservatism and Republican identification is negatively associated with both trust in science and seeing science as a source of truth. In the United States, the Clozapine Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program was implemented to ensure safe prescription and monitoring; however, its administrative complexity has often resulted in unintended barriers to access. Clozapine remains the most effective antipsychotic for treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), yet its use continues to be constrained by outdated regulatory frameworks, cultural inertia, and clinical hesitancy. This perspective article revisits the pharmacokinetic foundations of clozapine, re-examines its association with fatal outcomes, and critiques the persistence of obsolete monitoring systems such as the U.S. REMS program. Drawing on recent consensus publications endorsed by over 120 international clozapine experts, this article outlines the proposed changes to the U.S. prescription information and contextualizes them within broader global practices. This article argues that many barriers to clozapine use stem not from evidence, but from regulatory conservatism and the perpetuation of clinical myths. The dismantling of the REMS program in early 2025 represents a pivotal moment, yet further reforms are urgently needed to align regulatory guidance with contemporary science. Ultimately, this article is a call to rediscover the clinical value of clozapine and to translate decades of knowledge into regulatory and clinical action. Full article

A detailed morphological characterization is presented for Oriboglyphus maorianus gen. et sp. nov., a newly discovered modern representative of the relict family Schizoglyphidae, found in a nest of the termite Stolotermes ruficeps in New Zealand. This is the second extant schizoglyphid species known from modern material, and its discovery provides rare insight into a transitional stage in the evolution of astigmatid life cycles. The phoretic stage appears to be a tritonymph—rather than the typical deutonymph—based on key morphological traits including three-segmented palps, three pairs of genital papillae, and the presence of a pharynx. These features suggest that early astigmatid mites evolved multiple ontogenetic routes to dispersal, including tritonymphal, deutonymphal, and possibly adult phoresy, before the canalization of life cycles around deutonymphal dispersal. The persistence of putatively ancestral traits in schizoglyphids, along with their apparent ecological conservatism in termite nests, indicates the role of environmental stability in preserving modes of life history that otherwise appear extinct. We also provide a key to describe Schizoglyphidae species and discuss the implications of this discovery for understanding the origins of phoresy-related metamorphosis in Astigmata. Full article

The accurate assessment of the structural condition of airfield pavements is of paramount importance to airport authorities as it determines the planning of maintenance activities. On this basis, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques provide a powerful tool to assess the mechanical properties of the individual layers of the pavement. However, information from laboratory testing of cores taken from the pavement is expected to provide a more accurate assessment of material properties. Against this background, the present research aims to investigate the accuracy of the mechanical properties of in-situ layers derived from NDT data and the associated back-calculation procedures for airfield pavements, where higher pavement thicknesses are usually required due to the high aircraft loads, while few similar studies have been conducted compared to road pavements. For this reason, the assessment of the structural condition of a flexible runway pavement is presented. The analysis shows that there is a strong correlation between the moduli estimated in the laboratory and the moduli estimated by back-calculation. Furthermore, the back-calculated moduli appear to lead to a conservative approach in assessing the structural condition of the pavement. This conservatism promotes a more proactive pavement management by airport authorities. Full article

Climate change and environmental degradation necessitate green innovation (GI) to provide new solutions for sustainable economic growth. As many firms allocate scarce resources to green innovation, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers are keen to understand information disclosure on green innovation, particularly in company financial statements. This study empirically investigates the relationship between GI and conservative financial reporting. Using a dataset of 8945 unique firms, from 2001 to 2024, we discover a negative relationship between GI and conservative financial reporting. We further document that firms with high exposure to climate change exhibit a more pronounced negative relationship between GI and conservative financial reporting. In addition, we find that the presence of regulatory risks and public awareness, particularly after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, weakens the negative association between GI and conservative financial reporting. Our findings shed further light on information disclosure on green innovation, which is crucial for various stakeholders to utilize such information and make relevant decisions. Full article

This paper explores the under-researched phenomenon of queer migration in Croatia, Lithuania, and Poland—three post-communist, Catholic-majority countries. Drawing on existing studies in the literature and empirical data, it examines how prevailing social conservatism—shaped by the influence of Catholicism and the distinct developmental trajectories of these countries—is reflected in research on queer migration. Although limited, the current body of knowledge confirms that concerns over LGBTQIA+ rights are a factor motivating emigration. The three examples illustrate how queer migration must be analyzed within the complex interplay between Europeanization and liberalization, and the backlash against these processes. This backlash, prominently supported by the Catholic Church, includes resistance to gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights. By critically engaging with existing research, the paper underscores the need for future studies—particularly those investigating the gap between legal protections and prevailing social attitudes toward LGBTQIA+ individuals, the relationship between human rights backlashes and queer migration, the intersections between spatial context and personal biographies, and the connection between the queer migration and recent immigration waves in these countries. Sub-Saharan Africa’s (SSA) corporate environment, like many emerging markets, is marked by institutional voids, weak oversight structures, and patriarchal leadership norms, which heighten the risk of real earnings management (REM). This study examines how CEO characteristics and audit committee gender diversity influence REM among listed manufacturing firms in 12 SSA countries from 2012 to 2023. Anchored in agency theory and Upper Echelon Theory, this study draws on 1189 firm-year observations and employs Pooled OLS, Random Effects, Fixed Effects, Feasible Generalised Least Squares (FGLS), and System GMM estimators. Findings show that female CEOs are consistently associated with lower REM, underscoring the ethical conservatism linked to gender-inclusive leadership. CEO ownership shows a positive and significant association with REM in System GMM, though findings vary across models, indicating potential institutional effects. The firm size is negatively and significantly related to REM in Pooled, RE, and FGLS models, but becomes nonsignificant in FE and System GMM, suggesting the role of external scrutiny may be sensitive to model dynamics. Leverage exhibits a positive and significant relationship with REM in most models, but turns negative and nonsignificant under System GMM, pointing to endogeneity concerns. Interaction effects and country-specific regressions affirm that governance impacts differ across contexts. Policy reforms should prioritise gender-diverse leadership and tailored oversight mechanisms. Full article

This paper presents a non-fragile observer-based dissipative control strategy for the suspension systems of electric vehicles equipped with in-wheel motors, accounting for input delays, actuator faults, and observer gain uncertainty. Traditional control approaches—such as H, passive control, and robust feedback schemes, often address these challenges in isolation and with increased conservatism. In contrast, this work introduces a unified framework that integrates fault-tolerant control, delay compensation, and robust state estimation within a dissipativity-based setting. A novel dissipativity analysis tailored to Electric Vehicle Active Suspension Systems (EV-ASSs) is developed, with nonzero delay bounds explicitly incorporated into the stability conditions. The observer is designed to ensure accurate state estimation under gain perturbations, enabling robust full-state feedback control. Stability and performance criteria are formulated via Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) using advanced integral inequalities to reduce conservatism. Numerical simulations validate the proposed method, demonstrating effective fault-tolerant performance, disturbance rejection, and precise state reconstruction, thereby extending beyond the capabilities of traditional control frameworks. Purpose: This study aims to provide a comprehensive and objective view to investigate whether the motives of strong financial managers to adopt an accounting conservatism strategy have significant effects on improving financial growth opportunities in the context of banks listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange, while knowing how this relationship is affected by litigation risks. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using data from Saudi financial databases, this study examines how litigation risk moderates the relationship between accounting conservatism and financial growth in Saudi listed banks. Basu’s (1997) model and accrual-based metrics measure conservatism, whereas assets, liabilities, and business age are used to measure financial growth. Litigation risk factors included previous lawsuits. Validity was ensured using fixed-effects regression and robustness tests. Findings: The study found that accounting conservatism has a mixed impact on financial growth, litigation risk moderates the relationship between conservatism and financial growth, and litigation risk has a positive impact on accounting conservatism. Practical Implications: Use a balanced strategy to maintain accounting conservatism, lower litigation risk while maintaining the accuracy of financial statements, take legal risk into account when evaluating the quality of financial reporting, increase transparency without impeding growth, create guidelines tailored to a particular bank, and fortify governance to reduce lawsuits while permitting long-term financial growth. Originality/Value: In order to bridge the gap between conservatism strategies and long-term financial stability in emerging economies, this study examines how managerial decisions in accounting conservatism affect the financial growth of Saudi banks, incorporating litigation risk as a moderating factor. It also contributes to financial policies, risk management, and regulations. Full article

The leak-before-break (LBB) concept is widely used in the design and estimation of piping systems of nuclear power plants, which requires considerable test work to obtain the fracture resistance (J-R) curves of nuclear pipes. The application of numerical ductile fracture simulation can effectively limit the test work. In this study, an extended stress-modified critical strain (SMCS) model is applied to simulate the crack growth behaviors of full-scale nuclear pipes (SA312 TP304L stainless steel) with a circumferential through-wall crack under a four-point bending load. The LBB evaluation is performed based on the J-R curves of CT specimens and full-scale pipes obtained from fracture resistance tests and numerical simulations. It shows that due to the high crack-tip constraint effect, CT specimens may cause lots of conservatism in the LBB evaluation of nuclear pipes, while the application of numerical ductile fracture simulation can largely reduce the conservatism. As healthcare systems face mounting pressure to modernise payment infrastructure, fintech innovations have emerged as potential tools to improve affordability and efficiency. However, the adoption of these technologies in clinical settings remains limited. This study investigated the perceptions and resistance patterns of healthcare professionals toward Buy-Now-Pay-Later technology and blockchain in healthcare finance, using Innovation Resistance Theory as the guiding framework. Survey data collected from medical practitioners (N = 366) were analysed to identify knowledge gaps, perceived risks, and tradition-related barriers that influence adoption intent. The findings reveal that while interest in financial innovation exists, resistance is driven by institutional conservatism, regulatory uncertainty, and limited familiarity with decentralised finance systems. This research contributes to the literature by offering a theory-based explanation for why even high-potential financial tools face behavioural and structural resistance in healthcare environments. Phytoliths play a crucial role in plant growth and development. This paper analyzes the characterization of the culm sheath phytoliths of Bambusa vulgaris f.vittata across different geographic environments. The extraction of phytoliths was performed using microwave digestion, and the morphology of the phytolith was observed microscopically. The culm sheaths of Bambusa vulgaris f.vittata from GXNN, XSBN, GZGD, FJFZ, and FAFU Bambusa vulgaris f.vittata were selected for the study. The results indicated that the phytolith content and concentration were ranked as FJFZ > XSBN > GXNN > FAFU > GZHN, and the phytolith content and concentration were geographically significantly different. Saddle, Rondel, Silica stoma, and Scrobiculate (>70%) were observed in culm sheaths developed in different geographic environments, and phytolith morphology assemblages are largely homogeneous by genetic conservatism, but the proportion of each morphology varies across geographic environments. The main distribution of phytolith particle size ranges from 0 to 100 μm, with the highest peak in the 10–20 μm interval, followed by a decrease, and an elevation of up to 100–200 μm, followed by a significant reduction. The small size of the phytolith morphology was influenced by climatic factors. Specifically, the length, width, and area of XSBN increased with higher precipitation levels. Similarly, both the length and width of GDGZ also increased with increased precipitation. For FJFZ, the length increased with riding temperatures, while its width increased with higher precipitation. Additionally, the width of GXNN expanded with increasing temperatures. The present study supplemented the phytoliths analysis of the culm sheaths of Bambusa vulgaris f.vittata, which provided reference value for further research on the ability of Bambusa vulgaris f.vittata in carbon sequestration and other aspects, and contributed essential data for the robust development of the bamboo industry. Moreover, bamboo plants represent a significant natural solution to climate change, offering ecological, economic, and social benefits. This further encourages the protection of natural bamboo forests, the expansion of artificial cultivation, and the vigorous promotion of the bamboo industry and bamboo products. By maximizing their critical roles in forest carbon sequestration and climate regulation, bamboo plants provide a viable solution for global climate governance. Full article

Drawing upon the TikTok platform, this study analyzes the media consumption of content dedicated to “Pandoro,” a typical sweet from Verona, Italy, identifying the most successful categories through a visual sociology approach. It then sets out to obtain a deeper understanding of the conceptualization of the sweet and the narration of Pandoro consumption among Gen Z, focusing on a small group of students in the city of Verona itself and verifying how elements of conservatism, traditionalism, and passivity emerge in the realization of content. What also appears interesting is the confirmation, which emerged from TikTok, that Pandoro is seen as an Italian symbol rather than a typical food associated with the city of Verona. Full article
