Under intensified downward economic pressures on the economy, technological innovation is playing a pivotal role in the development of Chinese enterprises. Employees’ psychological safety significantly influences their innovative behaviors, as a climate of psychological safety fosters greater willingness among staff to engage in voice behaviors. Guanxi with a team leader may decrease this effect. This study analyzed survey data from 263 employees of China’s private manufacturing enterprises to explore the moderating role of guanxi with a team leader in the relationship between psychological safety climate and voice behavior. Results showed that psychological safety climate was positively correlated with promotive and prohibitive voices, and employees with a higher psychological safety climate were more likely to develop voice behavior. Guanxi with team leaders negatively moderated the relationship between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices, and the association between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices was strong when guanxi with a team leader was weak. This study expands the scope of the application of guanxi, with team leaders as a moderating variable. It helps leaders focus on the psychological safety climate of employees, maintain harmonious and friendly interpersonal relationships with employees, enable employees to spontaneously contribute to the development of the organization, and enhance cohesion in the organization. This study aims to evaluate the level of awareness and practical adoption of green wall systems in the Nigerian construction industry. It seeks to examine the current state of green wall implementation and recommend strategies to enhance their integration into construction practices among Nigerian construction professionals. A thorough review of the existing literature was conducted to identify different types of green wall systems. Insights from this review informed the design of a structured questionnaire, which was distributed to construction professionals based in Lagos State. The data collected were analyzed using statistical tests. The study reveals that while there is generally high awareness of green wall systems among Nigerian construction professionals, the practical use remains low, with just 8 out of the 18 systems being actively implemented, eclipsing the mean value of 3.0. The findings underscore the need for targeted education, industry incentives, and increased advocacy to encourage the use of green wall systems in the Nigerian construction sector. The results have significant implications for the Nigerian construction industry. The limited awareness and adoption of green wall systems highlight the need for strategic actions from policymakers, industry leaders and educational institutions. Promoting the use of green walls could drive more sustainable building practices, improve environmental outcomes and support the broader goals of decarbonization and circularity in construction. This research adds to the body of knowledge on sustainable construction by offering a detailed evaluation of green wall awareness and adoption within the Nigerian context. While green wall systems have been studied globally, this research provides a regional perspective, which in this case focuses on Lagos State. The study’s recognition of the gap between awareness and implementation highlights an important area for future research and industry development. Full article

This convergent mixed-methods study explores the lived experiences of Black women DEI leaders at predominantly white institutions within the context of an increasingly contentious national discourse surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in higher education. Conducted prior to the 2024 election, a period marked by escalating resistance to DEI efforts, this research explores how America’s racial reckoning influenced institutional DEI initiatives and shaped the realities of those leading this work. Data were collected through a climate survey of 20 DEI administrators and semi-structured interviews with three senior-level Black women DEI leaders. The survey findings suggest that institutional commitments to DEI were largely reactive, emerging as crisis responses to national calls for racial justice. These efforts resulted in the short-term elevation of Black women into leadership roles, often without sustained structural support. The interview data revealed that Black women senior DEI leaders routinely encounter discrimination, marginalization, and the paradox of hypervisibility and invisibility within their roles. This study concludes with implications and suggestions for institutional policy and structural reform aimed at fostering more equitable and sustainable DEI leadership environments. Full article

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly embedded in organizational development, understanding how leadership shapes employee responses to AI is critical for fostering workplace innovation. Drawing on trait activation theory, this study develops a theoretical model in which employee AI trust enhances innovative performance through AI crafting. Paternalistic leadership serves as a situational moderator, while the leader’s AI opportunity perception functions as a higher-order moderator. A three-wave survey was conducted with 523 employees from 14 AI-intensive manufacturing firms in China. Results show that the interaction between AI trust and paternalistic leadership positively predicts both AI crafting and innovative performance. In addition, AI crafting mediates the effect of the interaction term on innovative performance. Furthermore, the leader’s AI opportunity perception moderates this interactive effect: when this perception is high, the positive impact of AI trust and paternalistic leadership on AI crafting is significantly stronger; when it is low, the effect weakens. These findings contribute to the literature by clarifying the situational and cognitive conditions under which AI trust promotes innovation, thereby extending trait activation theory to AI-enabled workplaces and offering actionable insights for leadership development in the intelligent era. Directed Energy Deposition is an additive manufacturing subgroup that uses a laser beam to melt the wire or powder to create a melt pool. In the current study, a scientometric analysis has been carried out to analyze the contribution of countries, publication type analysis, distribution of publications over the years, keywords analysis, author analysis, cited journal, categories, institutes of publication, and report the practical implications. Firstly, the database was extracted from the Web of Science and then post-processed with CiteSpace 6.2.R4 and VOSviewer 1.6.20 software. Afterward, the associated results had been extracted and reported. It was found that China is the leader according to publication, followed by the USA and Germany, which mostly published their achievements in article and proceeding paper formats, which are increasing annually. According to the keywords, additive manufacturing, Laser Metal Deposition, and fabrication are the most commonly used. Based on the CiteSapce and VOSviewer results, Lin, Xin and Huang, Weidong are the authors with the highest publication rates. In addition, Additive Manufacturing, Materials & Design, and Materials Science and Engineering: A are the most cited journals, and regarding the categories, materials science, multidisciplinary, applied physics, and manufacturing engineering are the most commonly used DED processes. Northwestern Polytechnical University, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, and the United States Department of Energy (DOE) have performed the most research in the field of DED. Full article

This study examines the moral agency of French secondary school headteachers through the lens of the theory of conventions. Using qualitative data from interviews with fifteen headteachers involved in professional development, this study explores how these leaders justify their practices within a centralized, bureaucratic, and hierarchical education system. It identifies a variety of conventions—civic, domestic, industrial, project, market, inspired, and fame—that headteachers draw on to navigate institutional constraints, manage professional relationships, and foster pedagogical and organizational change. Particular attention is given to how civic and domestic conventions shape leadership discourse and practices, especially regarding trust building, decision making, and reform implementation. We also compare the French context with international examples from the International Successful School Principalship Project (ISSPP), focusing on Nordic countries, where leadership emphasizes democratic participation, professional trust, and shared responsibility. This study underscores the uniqueness of the French leadership model, which resists managerial and market logics while remaining rooted in republican and egalitarian ideals. It concludes by advocating for a more context-aware, ethically grounded, and dialogical approach to school leadership. Full article

Multi-vessel formation shipping demonstrates significant potential for enhancing maritime transportation efficiency and economy. However, existing route planning systems inadequately address the unique challenges of formations, where traditional methods fail to integrate global optimality, local dynamic obstacle avoidance, and formation coordination into a cohesive system. Global planning often neglects multi-ship collaborative constraints, while local methods disregard vessel maneuvering characteristics and formation stability. This paper proposes GLFM, a three-layer hierarchical framework (global optimization–local adjustment-formation collaboration module) for intelligent route planning of transport ship formations. GLFM integrates an improved multi-objective A* algorithm for global path optimization under dynamic meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) conditions and International Maritime Organization (IMO) safety regulations, with an enhanced Artificial Potential Field (APF) method incorporating ship safety domains for dynamic local obstacle avoidance. Formation, structural stability, and coordination are achieved through an improved leader–follower approach. Simulation results demonstrate that GLFM-generated trajectories significantly outperform conventional routes, reducing average risk level by 38.46% and voyage duration by 12.15%, while maintaining zero speed and period violation rates. Effective obstacle avoidance is achieved, with the leader vessel navigating optimized global waypoints and followers maintaining formation structure. The GLFM framework successfully balances global optimality with local responsiveness, enhances formation transportation efficiency and safety, and provides a comprehensive solution for intelligent route optimization in multi-constrained marine convoy operations. Job stress and burnout are major challenges in today’s workplaces. While most interventions adopt a clinical or deficit-based approach, this meta-analysis takes a positive perspective by examining the effectiveness of Positive Psychological Interventions (PPIs). A total of 24 studies conducted in workplace settings were analyzed to assess the impact of PPIs on psychological well-being, subjective well-being, and job performance. The results showed significant and sustained improvements across all three outcomes, with moderate effect sizes: subjective well-being (g = 0.50, 95% CI [0.18, 0.81]), psychological well-being (g = 0.46, 95% CI [0.15, 0.78]), and performance (g = 0.42, 95% CI [0.21, 0.62]). Higher effects were found for in-person interventions and those conducted in Western contexts. No significant moderation was observed for structural factors (e.g., implementation level: Individual, Group, Leader, or Organization [IGLO]) or sample characteristics (e.g., gender), among other variables examined. These findings highlight the relevance of PPIs for promoting well-being and sustaining performance, which may reflect the preservation of personal resources in the face of occupational stressors. Regardless of type, well-designed interventions may be key to fostering healthier workplace environments—especially when delivered face-to-face. Full article

Unifying Flood-Risk Communication: Empowering Community Leaders Through AI-Enhanced, Contextualized Storytelling

Floods pose a growing threat globally, causing tragic loss of life, billions in economic damage annually, and disproportionately affecting socio-economically vulnerable populations. This paper aims to improve flood-risk communication for community leaders by exploring the application of artificial intelligence. We categorize U.S. flood information sources, review communication modalities and channels, synthesize the literature on community leaders’ roles in risk communication, and analyze existing technological tools. Our analysis reveals three key challenges: the fragmentation of flood information, information overload that impedes decision-making, and the absence of a unified communication platform to address these issues. We find that AI techniques can organize data and significantly enhance communication effectiveness, particularly when delivered through infographics and social media channels. Based on these findings, we propose FLAI (Flood Language AI), an AI-driven flood communication platform that unifies fragmented flood data sources. FLAI employs knowledge graphs to structure fragmented data sources and utilizes a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework to enable large language models (LLMs) to produce contextualized narratives, including infographics, maps, and cost–benefit analyses. Beyond flood management, FLAI’s framework demonstrates how AI can transform public service data management and institutional AI readiness. By centralizing and organizing information, FLAI can significantly reduce the cognitive burden on community leaders, helping them communicate timely, actionable insights to save lives and build flood resilience. The increasing penetration of distributed renewable energy and the emergence of large-scale, flexible loads such as data centers pose significant challenges to the economic and secure operation of distribution systems. Traditional static pricing mechanisms are often inadequate, leading to inefficient resource dispatch and curtailment of renewable generation. To address these issues, this paper proposes a hierarchical pricing and dispatch framework modeled as a tri-level Stackelberg game that coordinates interactions among an upstream grid, a distribution system operator (DSO), and multiple virtual power plants (VPPs). At the upper level, the DSO acts as the leader, formulating dynamic time-varying purchase and sale prices to maximize its revenue based on upstream grid conditions. In response, at the lower level, each VPP acts as a follower, optimally scheduling its portfolio of distributed energy resources—including microturbines, energy storage, and interruptible loads—to minimize its operating costs under the announced tariffs. A key innovation is the integration of a schedulable data center within one VPP, which responds to a specially designed wind-linked incentive tariff by shifting computational workloads to periods of high renewable availability. The resulting high-dimensional bilevel optimization problem is solved using a Kriging-based surrogate methodology to ensure computational tractability. Simulation results verify that, compared to a static-pricing baseline, the proposed strategy increases DSO revenue by 18.9% and reduces total VPP operating costs by over 28%, demonstrating a robust framework for enhancing system-wide economic and operational efficiency. Ensuring the safe operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is crucial for both mission-critical and safety-critical tasks. In scenarios where UAVs must track airborne targets, they need to follow the target’s path while maintaining a safe distance, even in the presence of unmodeled dynamics and environmental disturbances. This paper presents a novel collision avoidance strategy for dynamic quadrotor UAVs during target-tracking missions. We propose a safety controller that combines a learning-based Control Barrier Function (CBF) with standard sliding mode feedback. Our approach employs a neural network that learns the true CBF constraint, accounting for wind disturbances, while the sliding mode controller addresses unmodeled dynamics. This unified control law ensures safe leader-following behavior and precise trajectory tracking. By leveraging a learned CBF, the controller offers improved adaptability to complex and unpredictable environments, enhancing both the safety and robustness of the system. The effectiveness of our proposed method is demonstrated through the AirSim platform using the PX4 flight controller. Full article

It is well-established that principal leadership significantly influences student learning in developed countries, yet much less is known about how leadership practices manifest in complex systems like China’s, where rapid modernization intersects with deep-rooted educational traditions. In particular, Chinese principals face multiple challenges in balancing the implementation of educational reform policies, high parental expectations, and their own educational ideology, all within limited resources. The current study examines these challenges in Shenzhen, a city which typically manifests them through its rapid development. Specifically, we took a phenomenographic approach and interviewed the principals and staff from five prestigious primary schools to extract the key components behind the diverse school leaders’ styles and practices. Results showed that, the Chinese leadership practice model consists of five key components: mission setting, infrastructure reconstruction, teacher development, learning improvement, and educators’ networking. Although the first four components in this model align with established theories in developed countries, networking was identified as a distinctive and critical element for securing resources and fostering collaboration. These findings may broaden the scope of leadership theories and underscore the need to contextualize leadership practices based on local challenges and dynamics. It also offers practical insights for school leaders on navigating challenges to improve teacher and student outcomes. Full article

This paper presents the multi-triangular ring and self-routing protocol (MTRSRP), which is a new decentralized strategy designed to boost throughput and network efficiency in multiring scatternets. MTRSRP comprises two primary phases: leader election and scatternet formation, which collaborate to establish an effective multi-triangular ring topology. In the leader election phase, nodes exchange broadcast messages to gather neighbor information and elect coordinators through a competitive process. The scatternet formation phase determines the optimal number of rings based on the coordinator’s collected node information and predefined rules. The master nodes then send unicast connection requests to establish piconets within the scatternet, following a predefined role table. Intra- and inter-bridge nodes were activated to interconnect the piconets, creating a cohesive multi-triangular ring scatternet. Additionally, MTRSRP incorporates a self-routing addressing scheme within the triangular ring architecture, optimizing packet transmission paths and reducing overhead by utilizing master/slave relationships established during scatternet formation. Simulation results indicate that MTRSRP with dual-bridge connectivity outperforms the cluster-based on-demand routing protocol and Bluetooth low-energy mesh schemes in key network transmission performance metrics such as the transmission rate, packet delay, and delivery ratio. In summary, MTRSRP significantly enhances throughput, optimizes routing paths, and improves network efficiency in multi-ring scatternets through its multi-triangular ring topology and self-routing capabilities. As the global emphasis on sustainable development intensifies, the integration of digital technologies (DTs) into efforts to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has gained increasing attention. However, existing research on the link between the SDGs and DTs remains fragmented and lacks a comprehensive perspective on their interconnections. We aimed to address this gap by conducting a large-scale bibliometric analysis based on Elsevier’s SDG research mapping technique. Drawing on approximately 1.17 million publications related to both the 17 SDGs and 11 representative DTs, we explored research trends in the SDG–DT association, identified DTs that are most frequently tied to specific SDGs, and uncovered emerging areas of research within this interdisciplinary domain. Our results highlight the rapid expansion in the volume and variety of SDG–DT studies. Our findings shed light on the widespread relevance of artificial intelligence and robotics, the goal-specific applications of technologies such as 3D printing, cloud computing, drones, and extended reality, as well as the growing visibility of emerging technologies such as digital twins and blockchain. These findings offer valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders aiming to strategically harness DTs to support sustainable development and accelerate progress toward achieving the SDGs. Improving occupational health and safety (OHS) in the construction industry can contribute to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Yet, workers’ risk-taking behaviors (RTBs) remain a persistent challenge. Drawing on Social Cognitive Theory and Social Information Processing Theory, this study develops and tests a social influence model to examine how foremen’s safety attitudes (SAs) shape workers’ RTBs. Drawing on survey data from 301 construction workers in China, structural equation modeling reveals that foremen’s SAs significantly and negatively predict workers’ RTBs. However, the three dimensions of SAs—cognitive, affective, and behavioral—exert their influence through different pathways. Risk perception (RP) plays a key mediating role, particularly for the cognitive and behavioral dimensions. Furthermore, interpersonal trust (IPT) functions as a significant moderator in some of these relationships. By identifying the micro-social pathways that link foremen’s attitudes to workers’ safety behaviors, this study offers a testable theoretical framework for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (particularly Goals 3 and 8) at the frontline workplace level. The findings provide empirical support for organizations to move beyond rule-based management and instead build more resilient OHS governance systems by systematically cultivating the multidimensional attitudes of frontline leaders.
