Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to announce a new Special Issue, titled “Marine Spatial Planning and Sustainable Marine Management”. The topic explores the role of marine spatial planning and marine resource management in achieving the sustainable development of marine ecosystems. It places particular emphasis on balancing economic, environmental, and social interests through integrated governance models, the spatial allocation of marine activities, and coordination among sectors such as shipping, fisheries, energy, tourism, and environmental protection. The topic also addresses regulatory frameworks, institutional challenges, stakeholder participation, cross-border cooperation, and the use of scientific and digital tools in planning and decision-making.
This Special Issue focuses on a broad range of topics related to marine spatial planning and marine management, highlighting the main challenges involved in balancing ecological protection, economic development, and sustainable use of marine resources. The aim is to encourage interdisciplinary research and practical solutions that contribute to more efficient use of marine space, reduced conflicts among sea users, and stronger resilience of marine ecosystems under increasing pressures and climate change.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome, and research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Marine spatial planning frameworks and implementation;
- Integrated marine and coastal governance;
- Stakeholder participation and conflict resolution;
- Ecosystem-based marine management;
- Cross-border marine planning and joint problem-solving;
- Marine policy, regulation, and institutional coordination;

- Coastal resilience and protection of marine ecosystems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. World is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
