Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Water and energy are deeply interconnected resources increasingly under pressure due to population growth, climate change, and unequal distribution. There is a growing need for transboundary energy–water security frameworks which refer to the hidden flow of water embedded in traded goods alongside virtual water trade as essential tools for sustainably managing global water and energy resources. As a result of the complexity of these systems, which span national borders, economic sectors, and governance regimes, interdisciplinary and integrative approaches are required to address emerging issues.
This Special Issue aims to collect cutting-edge research and policy-oriented insights on the interconnection between virtual water trade and cross-border energy–water security. We welcome contributions that examine regional and global case studies; model the nexus between water, energy, and trade; or offer new frameworks and tools to support resilient transboundary cooperation. Contributions from economics, environmental sciences, management, and other disciplines are all encouraged. Both theoretical analyses and empirical investigations are of interest.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.
