Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue on “The Eye, The Brain & The Auto” is aimed both to better understand the relationship between vision, the brain, and the safe operation of a motorized vehicle, in addition to exploring the role that the disruptive technology enabling autonomous vehicles will play in healthcare. This issue will publish selected papers from the 8th World Research Congress on Vision and Driving (https://www.henryford.com/hcp/research/clinical-research/vision/research-congress/eye-brain-auto), and will address the questions below:

  • How can medical and vision scientists play a role in human factors and auto design issues as the autonomous vehicle revolution unfolds?
  • How does a revolution in transportation influence human medicine?
  • Can sensor data or driving performance changes indicate possible health challenges?
  • What role will this democratization of transportation play in human medicine and rehabilitation?
  • How must these vehicles be modified for the blind and/or physically handicapped communities?
  • Can physicians identify design changes in semi-autonomous systems in response to known medical challenges?

Full articles, reviews, or communications are welcomed for this issue.
