Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue by sharing new ideas, approaches, concepts, and findings of your ongoing research and make an impact in advancing the field of vibration and control.

Many civil structures and mechanical systems could be subjected to dynamic excitations during their service life. The rapid development of engineering materials makes it possible to design and construct slenderer structures with a longer span and taller height, of which large amplitude vibrations would be a more predominant issue. How to properly address certain unique loading and response features in vibration analysis, including nonlinearity and stochasticity, constantly poses new challenges to engineers. On the other side, the availability of smart materials and their recent success in vibration control application brings more confidence and opportunities in developing novel control schemes to improve system performance. In particular, using smart materials, like shape memory alloys, piezoelectrics, and magnetostrictive materials in control allows to develop more efficient adaptive semiactive and active control methods. Therefore, it is imperative to enhance and advance our knowledge not only in analyzing dynamic behavior of vulnerable structural and mechanical systems, but also in the efficiency and reliability of their performance after implementing various passive, semiactive, and active control schemes.

This Special Issue is dedicated to the technical advancements in the field of vibration and control for civil structures and mechanical systems. Authors are invited to submit unpublished review and original research works addressing state-of-the-art analytical, numerical, and experimental studies in this field for both linear and nonlinear systems. Topics to be covered include:

  • Modeling and simulation of linear and nonlinear vibrations in structural and mechanical systems;
  • Analysis of response of controlled and uncontrolled structural and mechanical systems subjected to various dynamic loads;
  • Measurement and testing of vibrations;
  • Design and implementation of novel vibration control schemes, especially those utilizing smart materials;
  • Application of wireless smart sensors in vibration control;
  • Performance evaluation of various passive, semiactive, and active control schemes;
  • Hybrid pseudodynamic simulation techniques;
  • Reliability analysis of vibration control schemes;
  • Controlling chaos, chaotic behavior, and bifurcation in dynamic systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Vibration is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
