Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), especially the deep learning and generative models, has profoundly transformed computer graphics. Simultaneously, graphics technologies—ranging from geometry processing, rendering, and animation to virtual and augmented reality—are increasingly providing essential tools and environments for AI development. This synergy is not only accelerating innovation, but also opening new research frontiers in areas such as digital twins, immersive AI, and embodied intelligence.
This Special Issue aims to explore this dynamic two-way relationship by bringing together cutting-edge research that advances both fields by exploring their convergence. We are pleased to invite you to submit your original research papers or review papers to this Special Issue.
The Special Issue will focus on two complementary themes:
- AI for Graphics: How AI algorithms are revolutionizing traditional graphics pipelines, enabling new capabilities in content creation, rendering, modeling, and animation.
- Graphics for AI: How graphics technologies contribute to AI development, including synthetic data generation, simulation environments, visualization of AI models, and human–AI collaboration.
The proposed Special Issue will serve as a timely platform for researchers in the fields of computer graphics, machine learning, vision, and human–computer interaction to share insights and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- AI-driven advances in graphics:
- Neural rendering and novel view synthesis (e.g., NeRF, Gaussian Splatting);
- Generative models for 3D shape, texture, and motion synthesis;
- AI-based image and video editing, style transfer, and enhancement;
- Deep learning for real-time rendering and global illumination;
- Procedural content generation using AI;
- AI in animation, character control, and motion prediction;
- Machine learning for geometry processing and mesh manipulation;
- Graphics as enablers for AI:
- Synthetic data generation using graphics pipelines for training AI models;
- Physics-based simulation environments for reinforcement learning and robotics;
- 3D scene reconstruction and simulation for autonomous systems;
- Immersive environments (VR/AR) for human-in-the-loop AI training;
- Digital twins and simulation platforms for AI testing and validation;
- Interactive tools for AI-assisted design and creativity;
- Visualization methods for AI understanding.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
