Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Migratory movements are challenging and transforming the world and societies we live in, as well as the ways we understand, preserve and manage heritage. During the past years there have been numerous studies exploring the impact that migration has on cultural heritage and local communities. However, little attention has been paid to methodological and ethical approaches and issues in researching the interface of heritage and migration.

Therefore, the ‘Heritage and Migration: New Methodological Approaches’ special issue aims to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of innovative research methodologies and critical approaches employed to study heritage and migration, their materiality and traditions, on a local, national and global scale.

Papers addressing, but not limited to, the following themes in relation to heritage and migration are welcome:

  • Research ethics;
  • Museum-based research methodologies;
  • Participatory research methodologies;
  • Non-Western methodological research approaches;
  • Research methods applied to digital heritage and/or digital migration;
  • Big data, heritage and migration;

Cross-disciplinary studies are particularly encouraged.
