Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The goal of the Circular Economy is clearly addressed by the cascading approach. By reusing and recycling materials and products we keep secondary resources in the loop and primary reserves are saved. The focus of this Special Issue on “Cascade Use and Circular Economy” lies on gathering researcher’s ideas and case studies to discuss major challenges and chances within the recycling/reuse loop around the circular economy. We are seeking not only technical approaches but also economical and logistical topics. Contributions may address plastics, WEEE, ELV, paper, glass, etc., if their products are somehow integrated into new life cycles.

Please submit research papers or industry case studies related to the following or similar topics:

  • Industrial ecology;
  • Sustainable product design;
  • Sustainable mobility and resource demand;
  • Recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles;
  • Remanufacturing;
  • Cascade use methodology and case studies from all over the world;
  • WEEE and cascading case studies;
  • Material criticality and procurement;
  • LCA and MFA case studies related to the multiple life cycles of products;
  • Case studies addressing both material and energy efficiency;
  • Supply chain challenges within the circular economy.

Based on the Springer publication “Cascade Use in Technologies”, this Special Issues will address a broader audience. This Special Issue will follow the guidelines of the circular economy concept, as presented by the Allen MacArthur Foundation on their website, including case studies. We will provide additional space for open access papers that address even more case studies from all over the world.
