Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, “Sustainable Tourism Development: Balancing Economic Growth and Environmental Protection”, aims to advance scientific understanding of how tourism can contribute to sustainable development without compromising environmental integrity. The purpose is to explore conceptual and empirical perspectives that integrate economic, social, and ecological dimensions in tourism planning, management, and policy.

The scope of this issue includes research addressing tourism competitiveness, environmental governance, innovation, and circular economy models, as well as studies employing quantitative modeling approaches, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement strategies, and cultural heritage preservation. We particularly value contributions that evaluate sustainability indicators and tools for monitoring progress toward the UN 2030 Agenda.

By bridging economic analysis and sustainability science, this Special Issue aims to enrich the existing literature through multidisciplinary insights connecting tourism growth with climate responsibility, green innovation, and responsible consumption patterns. It contributes towards the aims of Sustainability by promoting integrative frameworks and evidence-based approaches that support decision-making and long-term resilience in the global tourism industry.
