Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Global warming and climate change have been a concern worldwide. Greenhouse gas emission from transport sector accounts for a high share. In recent years, shared and electric mobility have been indicated to be effective for the reduction of greenhouse gas emssions from transportation towards green cities. Shared mobility, such as ride-sharing, car sharing, bike-sharing, e-scooter-sharing, has displayed its potential environmental benefits on transportation by reducing the amount of trips from private cars. Replacing fossil fuel cars with electric vehicles can also be an option to mitigate green house gas emissions. The fossile fuel energy consumption and related greenhouse gas emissions can be even further reduced by charging the electric vehicles with the electricity generated from  renewable energy (e.g., solar energy).

This Special Issue (SI) aims to understand how shared mobility and electric mobility can more effectively contribute to green cities, especially during the post-pandemic period considering the COVID-19 pandemic has drametically changed people’s mobility, life and habits. In addition, the potential issues (e.g., parking, charging, cycling path planning) while introducing shared mobility and electric mobility services to cities will also be paid attention towards user-centered sustainable cities. This SI welcomes both theoretical and emperical studies on addressing a range of topics on shared mobility and electric mobility towards green cities. Possible topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Environmental benefits of shared/electric mobility
  • Supporting facilities planning related to shared/electric mobility.
  • The relationships between shared mobility and traditional public transport
  • Renewable energy enpowered electric mobility
  • The barriers and limitations of shared/electric mobility
  • The features of micromobility
  • The usage of micromobility and its influence factors
  • Shared mobility in the context of COVID-19

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
