Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of the Special Issue on forest dynamics, soil quality, and soil microbial activity in forest ecosystems is to give a thorough review of the most recent studies on how these three factors interact in forest ecosystems. This issue covers a wide range of subjects, such as soil fertility and quality, forest dynamics and disturbances, and the function of soil microbial activity in nutrient cycling and carbon sequestration. This Special Issue's objective is to further our knowledge of the intricate interactions between these variables and how they affect the health and resilience of forest ecosystems.

As it compiles the most recent studies on the interaction between forest dynamics, soil quality, and soil microbial activity, the Special Issue will be a welcome contribution to the body of material already available on forest ecology and soil science. While some of these issues have been the subject of individual studies in the past, this Special Issue strives to offer a more thorough understanding of the intricate connections between them.

For instance, recent research has demonstrated that disturbances to the forest, such as logging or fires, can have a major effect on the quality of the soil and the activity of microbes, which can then have an impact on the resilience and recovery of the forest ecosystems. By examining these relationships in detail, this Special Issue can contribute to our understanding of how forests respond to disturbances, and how we can manage them sustainably.

Another area in which this Special Issue can supplement the existing literature is in the role of soil microbial communities in nutrient cycling and carbon sequestration. While the importance of soil microbes in these processes is well-established, there is still much to learn about the specific mechanisms and interactions involved. By bringing together the latest research on this topic, this Special Issue could provide insights into how we can better manage forest ecosystems to maximize their potential for carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation.

Overall, the Special Issue on forest dynamics, soil quality, and soil microbial activity in forest ecosystems has the potential to significantly advance our knowledge of the intricate interactions between these variables. Thus, it welcomes papers that serve to give insight into more sustainable and successful management approaches for forest ecosystems in the face of continuing environmental changes by bringing together the most recent knowledge from numerous fields.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
