Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to explore the economic sustainability of Green Energy Transition policies. The Green Energy Transition has been introduced as one of the main factors for achieving sustainable growth and enhancing competitiveness. Economists such as Joseph Stiglitz and Nicholas Stern have argued that it will reduce energy prices over the next few years. In this connection, Mario Draghi pointed out that green energy is one of the main areas of action if the EU aims to regain competitiveness. Nevertheless, energy prices and overall economic performance do not confirm these predictions so far. Recent empirical research finds weak growth in green energy production regions. Extensive review papers indicate that the Green Energy Transition is country-specific. In short, the effectiveness and implementation of Green Energy Transition programs is not straightforward. We need to develop our analytical reasoning to explain weak growth following Green Energy Transition programs and improve forward-looking models applied to estimate the growth effect of green energy subsidies. Finally, we need to open our minds to new ideas regarding the implementation of these policies, including, but not limited to, developing social economy institutions in urban and rural areas. On these grounds, we invite analytical, empirical, and policy papers evaluating, explaining, and improving the impact of the Green Energy Transition on economic performance.
