Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Food systems are responsible for around one-quarter of global GHG emissions, 70% of the water withdrawals, and 78% of ocean and freshwater eutrophication. However, at the gates of the fourth industrial revolution, Artificial Intelligence, 4.0 technologies, and digitization are modifying the industrial paradigm.
To ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector, it is of great importance to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance environmental sustainability. In this context, life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) methodologies appear suitable approaches to quantify environmental impact and identify potential strategies or technologies to reduce and manage environmental impact.
As such, this Special Issue focuses on the use of life cycle assessment methodology for the implementation of environmental management practices or strategies in the food sector. Original research articles and reviews dealing with life cycle assessment for sustainable environmental management are welcome. Research areas may include the following:
- Discussing barriers and opportunities of using LCA for sustainable management;
- Assessing changes in environmental impacts due to the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and operational practices;
- Innovative measurement and monitoring strategies, tools, or policies to reduce environmental impact through sustainable management.
Looking forward to receiving your contributions.
