Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue is to explore the complex interplay between the conservation of built cultural heritage and the challenges posed by environmental change, promoting sustainable and interdisciplinary approaches. In a global context marked by climatic, urban and social transformations, the protection of historic buildings and the tangible cultural assets they contain represents a strategic priority to ensure the environmental, economic and identity resilience of the communities to which they belong.

This Special Issue welcomes contributions that address research and initiatives focused on:

  • Strategies for adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change on historic buildings;
  • Engagement of stakeholders and local communities in the management and enhancement of heritage;
  • Classical and preventive analyses for the conservation of built heritage;
  • Innovative technologies and methodologies for heritage protection, including non-invasive and digital approaches;
  • New sustainable materials and practices compatible with the conservation and restoration of historic buildings;
  • Integration of cultural heritage into urban and tourism development processes, with attention to economic and social sustainability;
  • New cultural uses of historic buildings, balancing tradition and innovation.

The objective is to promote a holistic and sustainable vision of the conservation of built heritage and the cultural assets it houses and supports, capable of combining tradition and innovation, protection and development, in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
