Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The integration of new techniques for analyzing urban layouts within spatial government tools, referable to technological innovations and the world of ITC, is now a nodal issue for the development and determination of a new season of urban planning framework. New planning uses innovative and technologically advanced tools through a continuous flow of data and simulations of possible scenarios. In this application context, approaches based on Spatial Analysis, Big Data, and AI methodologies play a fundamental role, both in urban dynamics assessment and in supporting decision-making processes as a whole, in the analysis of impact and consequences. In recent years the scientific community has focused more and more on the application implications of the use of "digital" technologies and the need for effective spatial standards and interfaces, spatial analysis tools, integrated hardware/software platforms (Spatial Data Infrastructure, SDI) has played a key role in the development of these activities. The synergy of the Territorial Sciences with the other scientific sectors of reference is expressed in the role of control and coordination that these, along with the support of new technologies, can express in the conceptual and technological stitching between Urban Planning and city regeneration. This SI aims to promote reflection on how much digital transition can provide critical support for urban planning and how, on the other hand, the role of policy makers is still crucial.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
