Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The leakage of oil and the treatment of industrial wastewater are worldwide problems. Special wettability stimulated materials (superhydrophobic and superoleophilic, superhydrophilic and under water superoleophobic, superhydrophilic and superoleophobic)  have shown great potentials in the treatment of oil-and-water mixtures. Understanding the key factors (chemical composition and micro-geometrical structure of the surface)  of the surface wettability are known to enhance the performance of the oil-water separation material. Biomimitic design and smart material (stimuli-responsive material, shape memory material, etc) with switchable wettability are significance on the oil-water separation for different demands.

This Special Issue look forward to any novel stretagy or developments for fabricating oil-water separation material with some excellent performance (seperation/ absorption efficiency, recyclability, durability, etc) or can be put into use in the near future.

Oil separation from oil/water mixed drop under a Lamb wave field is one of the emerging acoustofluidic technologies that integrate acoustics and microfluidics. In recent years, this technology has attracted significant attention due to its effective, fast, contactless, and pollution-free. It has been validated in the separation of oil/water mixture on different non-piezoelectric substrates and shows great potential in incompatible liquids applications. Here, we summarize our recent progress in this exciting field and show great potential in different applications. This review introduces the theories and mechanisms of oil/water mixed drop separation induced by Lamb waves, the applications of this technology in the separation of oil/water mixed drop, and discusses the challenges and prospects of this field.
