Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fibre-laser sensors based on fibre grating technologies are currently attracting intense research interest because of their outstanding characteristics, including their design versatility, high inherent sensitivity, robust single-mode operation, remote sensing capability, highly dynamic measurement, and multiplexing capabilities. Significant progress continues to be made in both improving the configurations of current fibre-laser sensor designs and in the realisation of novel fibre-laser sensor systems. The field also directly benefits from in-fibre grating technology, which is becoming increasingly versatile due to the introduction of new optical fibre technologies, the realisation of precision in-fibre grating fabrication, precision sensor interrogation techniques, and the availability of advanced optoelectronic components. Typically, fibre-laser sensor configurations often include a gain medium, either optically pumped or electrically pumped, with the lasing cavity being either external-cavity or intra-cavity and in either linear or ring cavity configurations. The fibre-laser sensor can be CW or pulsed, operating in single mode, and either wavelength-stabilised or non-stabilised, while the sensing system can include sensor multiplexing. All these factors make Fiber-Laser Sensor Systems highly competitive compared to other sensor technologies.

This Special Issue aims to present the improved configurations of previous fibre-laser sensors and novel fibre-laser sensor systems, including a range of applications, in both traditional and innovative applications. In this Special Issue, original research articles as well as reviews will be published.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
