Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The advancement of sensor technologies in robot-assisted surgical systems (RASS) is driving transformative progress in precision medicine. Sensors, with their advantages of high sensitivity, real-time performance, and miniaturization, play a crucial role in intraoperative navigation, tissue identification, and operational feedback. Recent breakthroughs in flexible sensing and nanotechnology have enabled multi-modal data acquisition and intelligent analysis of sensors in complex surgical environments.

This Special Issue aims to compile original research and review articles focusing on the latest advances, technical solutions, applications, and emerging challenges of sensor technologies in RASS, providing a platform for academia and industry to exchange insights.

 Potential Topics (including but not limited to):

  • Sensing architectures for surgical robots: Integration schemes for force sensors, visual sensors, ultrasound/infrared sensors.
  • Multi-modal sensing and data fusion: Collaborative technologies and intelligent algorithms for tactile, visual, and spectral sensing.
  • Miniaturized and implantable flexible sensors: Design of flexible micro-sensing devices for minimally invasive surgery and biocompatibility optimization.
  • Real-time monitoring and feedback systems: Intraoperative tissue state perception via flexible sensors and surgical instrument motion tracking.
  • Flexible sensor applications in precision surgery: Tumor resection navigation, minimally invasive robot control, and postoperative rehabilitation monitoring.
  • Hybrid flexible sensing systems: Integration of optical/electrical flexible sensors and AI-driven data processing.
  • Flexible sensor reliability and safety: Anti-interference design, fault-tolerance mechanisms, and ethical challenges in surgical environments.

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
