Special Issue Information

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue on "Religious Socialization in Current Sociology." Religion could play a significant role in fostering positive social transformation and enhancing current social conditions, including in reducing various inequalities. In a global context marked by inequality, violence, and environmental challenges, it is crucial to understand how religious beliefs, practices, and initiatives can promote inclusion, justice, and peace. This Special Issue highlights the growing scientific interest in exploring religion’s potential to foster meaningful social change and improve well-being. It aims to identify actions that effectively improve lives in various ways and to collect evidence on their potential transferability to other contexts.

This Special Issue aims to identify and analyze successful religious and interreligious actions that generate measurable social impact, leading to tangible improvements in people's lives and communities. It seeks contributions that explore how religious engagement contributes to overcoming inequalities, preventing violence, promoting ethical labour practices, strengthening civic participation, and advancing gender equality, thereby supporting the advancement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

By documenting and reflecting on transformative experiences and evidence-based practices, this Special Issue aligns with the journal’s scope concerning social transformation, civic engagement, and sustainable development. We welcome theoretical, methodological, and empirical studies that examine how religious actions and emerging spiritualities respond to contemporary global challenges while fostering equality, intercultural understanding, and social well-being.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome, and research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Research Area A: Religion and Social Impact;
  • Research Area B: Religion and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Research Area C: Religion and Gender;
  • Research Area D: Religion and Peace Initiatives;
  • Research Area E: Religion and Zero-Violence Education.

We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200–300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send this to the Guest Editor or the Assistant Editor of Religions (Ms. Chelsey Chen, chelsey.chen@mdpi.com). Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editors to ensure they fit the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
