Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to submit a contribution to a Special Issue of Religions. This Special Issue of Religions is on Contemporary Black Theology. One aim of this Special Issue is to foster and highlight further scholarship on this vibrant and fertile topic. The material in this issue will be of interest to a “wide range of thoughtful readers and academic scholars of religion, as well as . . . others interested in the multidisciplinary study of religions.”
In terms of scope, the issue will focus on contemporary African American theology, and it is open to multiple related areas and approaches. These may include forms of contemporary Christianity, for example, black theology of liberation and womanism, as well as non-Christian African American forms of religion and theology, such as Islam and humanism. Scholarship on African religions and religions of the African diaspora, such as Vodou and Santeria, is also encouraged. Topics may delve into areas including, but not limited to, ideas of God and divine attributes, Jesus Christ, trinity, pneumatology, ecclesiology, theological anthropology, eschatology, ritual, and ethics.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. The preference is for scholarship that is theological in nature. This could involve a constructive, systematic, or historical theological approach. While the preferred focus for contributions is theological, the hope is to range out from this central concern into other realms of interest. These other realms might involve considerations of African American religion with regard to scriptural studies, historical approaches, feminism/womanism, social scientific treatments, and research on the relationship between religion and science, culture, politics, literature, and the arts. We hope that this Special Issue will stimulate new, creative, constructive, and critical research in the area of contemporary black theology.
We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200-300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the Guest Editor, or to the Assistant Editor Amity Zhang (amity.zhang@mdpi.com) of Religions. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editors for the purposes of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
