Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Some may wonder whether science and theology can or should speak to each other at all, but the goal of this Special Issue is to show the importance and impact of the long-standing and ongoing dialogue between these two disciplines.
Earlier Special Issues of Religions, for which I was privileged to be the invited Guest Editor, investigated the stimulating conversation between Christianity and science. ‘Christianity and Science: Fresh Perspectives,’ published in 2020-21, explored the largely collegial dialogue between theology and science, both past and present, and contrasted this with popular warfare narratives. ‘Exploring Science from a Biblical Perspective,’ published in 2022-23, found that theology, rather than stifling science, encouraged the scientific search for mechanical, natural explanations for regular, repeating events, yet recognized that God, as the Creator, is not limited to using only natural processes. In 2025-26, ‘Humans, Science and Faith’ explored how we think of ourselves and value others in light of contemporary scientific and religious mindsets. The goal of this Special Issue will be to consider broadly how this dialogue has shaped, and currently shapes, both theology and science. Our desire is to explore this impact in a range of specific scientific disciplines, from archaeology to zoology, with a theological focus on Christianity, although we are open to proposals from other religions.
We seek contributions that explore this dialogue from either or both directions: Where did, or does, religion exert an influence on science and scientific theories? How is, or has, theology been influenced by science? Within these broad categories, papers focused on a specific topic, field, or issue are preferred, such as the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on religion (and/or religion on AI).
We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200-300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the Guest Editor, Prof. Dr. John A. Bloom (john.bloom@biola.edu), and CC the Section Managing Editor, Ms. Evelyn Zeng (evelyn.zeng@mdpi.com) of Religions. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editor for the purpose of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-anonymized peer-review process. Religions is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
