Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

(1) Introduction

In the era of rapid digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized scholarly communication, empowering authors with tools that streamline research, enhance writing efficiency, and redefine academic practices. From AI-driven writing assistants to advanced data analytics platforms, these technologies are reshaping workflows in digital publishing, humanities research, and scholarly production. However, while AI tools offer unprecedented opportunities for innovation, they also raise critical questions about accuracy, ethical use, and accessibility. This Special Issue aims to explore the diverse landscape of AI tools designed for authors, their impacts on academic workflows, and their role in fostering advancements in digital scholarship.

(2) Aim of the Special Issue

This Special Issue seeks to compile cutting-edge research on AI tools that support authors across disciplines, with a focus on their applications in digital publishing, digital humanities, and digital academic practices. The topic aligns with the scope of Publications by addressing technological innovations in scholarly communication, research methodologies, and the ethical implications of AI in academia. The goal is to assemble a collection of articles (original research or reviews) that collectively showcase the state-of-the-art in AI tools for authors, their challenges, and future directions.

(3) Suggested Themes and Article Types

We welcome original research articles, review articles, and case studies addressing (but not limited to) the following themes:

  • AI-powered writing assistants (e.g., grammar correction, content generation, and style optimization);
  • Tools for automated literature review, citation analysis, and metadata organization;
  • AI in digital publishing: peer review enhancement, plagiarism detection, and manuscript formatting;
  • Applications of AI in digital humanities (text mining, cultural heritage analysis, and computational linguistics);
  • Data visualization and storytelling tools for academic communication;
  • Ethical considerations in AI tool use (bias, copyright, and academic integrity);
  • User experiences and challenges in adopting AI tools for scholarly writing;
  • AI-driven collaboration platforms for multi-author research projects;
  • Future trends in AI tool development for academic authors.

We look forward to your contributions that deepen our understanding of how AI is transforming scholarly practices and enabling more efficient, inclusive, and innovative research communication.
