Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Proteomics has undergone transformative advancements over recent years. This includes technological advances enhancing the speed and sensitivity of mass spectrometers for discovery-based approaches and advances in targeted affinity proteomics. This has been complemented by the adoption of automated and modular workflows in sample preparation and chromatography. These advances have paved the way for the development of single-cell spatio-temporal proteomics profiling with wider applications in understanding mode of action of drugs, disease mechanisms alongside the discovery of new biomarkers. Computational advances and new proteogenomic workflows have led to widespread adoption of DIA-based approaches in the analysis of clinical samples for biomarker discovery. We are also witnessing a growing trend for the adoption of antibody-independent approaches such as high-resolution multiplexed “Parallel Reaction Monitoring” (PRM) for biomarker or target validation. These technological advances are shaping up the future and addressing challenges such as (1) single-cell-level proteomic analysis of clinical samples and (2) discovering novel proteoforms relevant to understanding mode of action of drugs, disease progression and staging.

For this Special Issue, we look forward to receiving original clinical proteomics studies and review articles focused on (1) the underlying mechanisms of disease progression using human tissues or representative cell lines, (2) biomarker discovery studies using quantitative proteomics, and (3) mass spectrometry-based biomarker validation studies, as well as (4) the use of proteomics to discover modes of action of new and existing drugs.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Proteomes is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
