Young Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that the winners of the Pathogens 2023 Young Investigator Award are Dr. Shuofeng Yuan and Dr. Rhea Longley.
Dr. Shuofeng Yuan is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong, HKSAR, China. His research interests are in using state-of-the-art disease models and technologies to decipher novel antiviral targets and develop antiviral agents, including high-throughput drug screening, metabolic reprogramming, and chemical proteomics. Dr. Shuofeng Yuan is among the top 1% worldwide by citations and among the Highly Cited Researchers 2021 and 2022 by Clarivate. He has published >40 first/co-first/corresponding-authored original research articles in the best journals in his field, which is extremely impressive for a young investigator by any standard.
Dr. Rhea Longley is a Senior Research Officer of the Population Health and Immunity Division at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), Parkville, Australia. Her research focuses on host–pathogen interactions of malaria and aims to better understand naturally acquired immune responses in the host to the Plasmodium parasite to facilitate the design of next-generation vaccines and diagnostics. Dr. Rhea Longley wrote three publications based on her thesis work and has now reached 40 papers with 20 as a first or senior author, including papers in Nature Medicine and Nature Communications.
Each awardee will receive an honorarium of CHF 1000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2023 in Pathogens after peer-review, and an electronic certificate.
