Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Complex systems are ubiquitous across natural and social domains, characterized by intricate structural topologies, nonlinear interactions, and emergent macro-scale phenomena. From theoretical ecology and global trade networks to complex adaptive architectures, understanding the resilience, vulnerability, and evolutionary transitions of these systems demands rigorous mathematical analysis and advanced simulation paradigms. As traditional methodologies converge with computational intelligence, there is a pressing need to synthesize structural, analytical, and data-driven approaches to uncover the underlying laws of complex dynamics.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to provide a multi-disciplinary platform to explore the fundamental mathematical mechanisms governing complex systems. This issue emphasizes theoretical mechanism-driven research, mathematical modeling, and state-of-the-art simulations over strictly empirical case studies. By bringing together perspectives from applied mathematics, statistical physics, and computational science, we seek to advance our predictive capabilities regarding system stability, spatial–temporal dynamics, and network behaviors. 

In this Special Issue, original research articles and comprehensive reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: non-linear dynamics and chaos theory; statistical mechanics on complex networks; mathematical modeling of real-world systems; complex adaptive systems and game evolution; and AI4S in complex systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
