Dear Colleagues,
Computational and analytical approaches encompass a large spectrum of applied mathematical methods in engineering where expert’s ingenuity is pushed to the limits. Great geotechnical engineers such as Terzaghi, Gibson, and others have impregned the discipline through the use and application of analytical methods that proved to be very efficient in solving diverse types of problems such as consolidation, seepage, stress distribution, etc.
This Special Issue focuses on the application and development of computational and analytical approaches in analyzing various geotechnical engineering problems. It is dedicated to an overview of key computational and analytical methods used in geotechnical engineering, including their applications, advantages, and limitations, highlighting their importance in addressing challenges such as soil deformation, ground improvement, foundation design, and tunneling. The ongoing development of more sophisticated analytical tools continues to shape the future of geotechnical engineering, allowing more insight into some phenomena, ensuring more resilient infrastructure and better risk management in the face of geotechnical uncertainties.
Original, review, and case study articles related to basic theories and advanced engineering applications will be welcomed.
The research topics covered include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Developing computational and analytical approaches that can accurately help solve geotechnical problems in general;
- Exploring mathematical models for solving complex problems, including dynamic and static models of soils and rocks, multi-physics models, constitutive modeling, behavior of geomaterials, slope stability, etc.
